Tattoo question

Yes. They're providing a service to you and they deserve a tip. How much depends on your satisfaction with the level of service provided.0

As the wife of a tattoo artist - you ALWAYS tip. Unless that tattoo artist has intentionally degraded you, or not done your design justice.
General rule is 25%. More if your tattoo is awesome.
If the artist does not own the studio, your artist is paying anywhere from 25-60% of every tattoo to the shop owner. The cost of your tattoo isn't just a made up number depending on how the artist feels. The majority will go to supplies used (needles, ink, paper towels, cleaning chemicals, disposable ointments, etc) with another good amount going to the overhead cost of the studio (you need electricity and licensing and inspections).
As American's, the service industry is tipped. If you tip your hairstylist/salon services, your restaurant servers, the guy that spins your food around the Mongolian-style grill, your doorman, etc, then you should tip your artist.0 -
Yes, always♥0

I always feel like you tip a person who does something for you that you can't do yourself - example - hair dresser, tattoo artist, waitress (I suppose we can get the food ourselves but they make next to nothing!)0
-
always tip your artist!0
-
nope, no tattoos, so no tips. I've got better things to piss my money away on...0
-
Always tip if the quality of work is top notch! The studio that my wife and I get our work done at splits the cost of a tattoo 50/50 with the artist and shop, so they need the extra for supplies.
I have only not tipped once and it was due to a poor tattoo.0 -
YUP!!!0
-
yes i have tipped each time!0
-
I always tip and I usually OVER tip. Especially since I like my artist a LOT and he does awesome work.
Usually 20$-$40+. Depends on the price/size/time/detail etc.0 -
Yup, I even tip the person who does my piercings. Many of them (where I go) are using it to pay for college so it's important.0
-
Absolutely. I usually tip around 20%. I know it becomes more expensive, but if you look at it as a one time payment on a lifelong investment, it's not that bad!0
-
sure do0
-
always!0
-
of course...my artists is a good friend so i know i am getting a discount so a better tip is good0
-
I do as well..0
-
I tip but it isn't the 40% that people are talking about or even the 25% ... It all depends on the peice for me!
Curious though what does everyone pay for an hour of tattoing? I know where I am its expensive! So tipping that high is hard0 -
yes depending on the size i usually do smaller ones about 10 - 15 and big ones 20 to 250
-
Of course! But just like my waiter, hair dresser, etc I won't for poor service.0
-
Without a doubt - Yes.
*I also kick-in a little "extra" becuase he gives me his shop discount ...0 -
I'm not worried about the expense part of it - this is a big deal, I want a gorgeous tattoo, and I want to not offend the guy doing it so maybe he'll do another gorgeous tattoo sometime in the future. I just want to be appropriate.0

Yes, I always try to tip (although the lady I go to is insists most times to not accept it). My first two I tipped...I dont' remember how much as it was so long ago but generally I do 20%...really depends on the price, the tat etc.
The last 3 times was by said woman so I didn't tip..she wouldn't let me! lol0 -

Most deff tip them....tattoos take time...i tiped for all of mine according to how long it took and how good of a job they did0
-
if you work in the service industry and you do a great job, you'll always get a healthy tip from me.0
-
I have 5 tattoos and I have always given a tip, especially if it is custom work. I have a few bigger ones and after awhile he just wouldn't take my money anymore!! I think it depends on the relationship you have with the artist too!0
-
Yep! My artist gave me a $70 tat and I gave him a $30 tip... When I went to get my tat touched up I had no extra tip money so I brought him homemade goodies! He loved it!!0
-
i didn't0
-
I definitely tip, and well!0
-
I always tip! It's kind of like getting your hair done. I feel like with most services we tip people, tattoos are no different. Enjoy.0
