Aliens... fact or fiction?

I figure that, with all of the zillions of suns out there, and the subsequent planets surrounding said suns, there's GOT to be other life forms out there. I don't think they look anything like what Hollywood has made them out to be, and I don't think they've been to earth, but I'd bet they exist.
This is how I think, also.0 -
The idea that, with the vastness of the universe with the millions of planets and galaxies out there, that WE are the most intelligent beings is far more frightening than the thought that there might be aliens.0

All you have to do is go to Southern California and drive by a Home Depot in the morning. They are here.0

Believe.
While we are at it: I also believe in Ghosts, Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster.
I do not; however, believe that zombies, vampires, or werewolves exist.
No zombies??? :noway:
Say it ain`t so.0 -
... could life on this planet be descended from alien spores? ...Panspermia, the view that the seed of life is diffused throughout the universe, has been favored by a minority of thinkers since the Greek Anaxagoras in the 5th century BC.
Tiny Critters Survive Space (With No Spacesuit)
Irene Klotz, Discovery News
Tough Space Traveler | Video: Discovery Space
Sept. 9, 2008 -- When it comes to surviving open exposure in space, a tiny invertebrate now stands out: tardigrades, also known as "water-bears."
These small, segmented animals not only survived a 12-day orbital expedition, some members of the community felled by solar radiation actually recovered upon their return to Earth.
"How these animals were capable of reviving their body … remains a mystery," said lead researcher Ingemar Jönsson, with Sweden's Kristianstad University, who writes about the discovery in this week's issue of Current Biology.
In what is apparently the first test of an animal's ability to survive open exposure to space, tardigrades were packed aboard the European-funded Foton-M3 spacecraft launched by Russian in September 2007.
The tiny invertebrates, which range in size from about 0.1 to 1.5 mm, are more commonly found on mosses and lichens. Because their habitats often dry up, the creatures are extremely hardy and can survive prolonged periods of total dryness.
That seems to be just the beginning of their skills. Packed in ventilated chambers that were exposed to the vacuum of space, adults from two species of tardigrades were subjected to extreme heat, frigid cold, cosmic rays and deadly levels of solar ultraviolet radiation. They had no air, water or food.
Most of the 3,000 creatures not only survived, but they went on to reproduce once they came back to Earth.
About 12 percent of the animals exposed to ultraviolet radiation revived after being put back in water, a puzzling find since researchers presume the sterilizing rays broke down the tardigrades' DNA.
"This type of radiation cuts the DNA strand effectively in most organisms," Jönsson told Discovery News.
Further tests are needed to determine if indeed the animals' genetic material was indeed damaged and what sort of mechanisms tardigrades have to make such unprecedented repairs.
The ultraviolet levels of radiation in space were more than 1,000 times more intense than what reaches the surface of Earth.
The experiment was among 43 microgravity science investigations sponsored by the European Space Agency, Germany, Belgium, France, Italy, Canada and Russia aboard the Foton spacecraft, which circled about 168 miles above Earth.
While no additional flights are currently planned, the researchers would like to fly tardigrades aboard the International Space Station to see if they could survive even longer forays in space.0 -

^^^^^THIS......I agree 100%!!!0 -
Extra terrestrial
Extra dimentional
Extra temporal
Who knows......but it is facinating to think of the possibilities.
Also I saw a UFO twince in one week once. Still not sure of what I saw0 -
Is this compelling to anyone else?
ABYDOS CARVINGS
Located approximately 450 kilometres south of Cairo in Egypt is the very ancient city-complex of Abydos. Believed by many to be one of the most important historical sites relating to ancient Egypt it is also the location of a set of carvings that have caused a significant amount of academic controversy amongst archeologists and historians. Within the Temple of Seti the 1st (Seti I) you can find the outer Hypostyle Hall and on one of the lintels you can find a series of carvings that look very much like helicopters and futuristic space craft. The Helicopter is particularly recognizable and this has led to questions being raised about how this can possibly exist.
Naturally, every UFO enthusiast or believer in a once technologically advanced Atlantean civilization has pointed to these images as proof of their theories. Equally, every mainstream Egyptologist has gone to great lengths to explain that they are nothing more than the result of older hieroglyphs that were plastered over and then carved again so that when the plaster later collapsed the modified images that were under the plaster reappeared but in their new and coincidental design. This has been the official line debunking the Abydos Machines. Quite complex charts have been created to show how the process took place. Further more, they have rolled out the old argument that because they have never found items of this nature they could never have exited. Where are they now, they laugh? Did they just fly away? Oh whoops!
Recently there has been some highly detailed and intelligent challenges to the theory that these images were simply the byproduct of re-carving. The first is that this was an important building and the use of plaster would have been anomalous. Instead, the Egyptians would have used a special sandstone filler that they were well experienced in making that was much more robust. The re-carving theory is also coming under scrutiny and recent practical experiments cannot duplicate the effect described by the experts. Lastly, some researchers believe that the layout of the items has a strong and accurate relationship with the Golden Section concept. Their point becomes quite interesting when they say that the coincidence that original carvings could be covered and re-carved and then still align to a set of perfect measurements is simply unbelievable. Either way there is something persistent about this mystery and the debate will continue. Did the Egyptians whiz around in strange futuristic craft or did they just witness something they couldn’t explain and carve it in stone as a record. Perhaps time will tell but it hasn’t so far.0 -
Here's another.
ANTIKYTHERA MECHANISM
This curious mechanical device is often described as the World’s first analogue computer was retrieved by sponge divers off the coast of Antikythera in or around 1900AD. Scientists all agree that it is real and that it dates from some time during the 2nd century BC making it well over 2,000 years old. It comprises of a complex system of dials, gears and cogs of extraordinary precision. Experts agree that it represents a standard of production that would not be seen again until the rise of complex clocks and clockwork in the 18th century.
After many years of research the current thinking is that it was used as an astronomy calculator to predict and measure the movement and cycle of the planets in relationship to the Sun, Earth and the Moon. For decades after its original discovery the importance of the find was overlooked until archaeologists and modern scientist began to appreciate the significance of such early mechanical sophistication. Since then it has been x-rayed many times using evermore advanced equipment. Working reconstructions have been made and entire research groups established to unlock the secrets of its manufacture and its purpose. Its existence has challenged many preconceived ideas regarding the technological abilities of the ancient civilisations.0 -
The Truth Is Out There
I want to believe!0 -
I think that as a generally intelligent species that we would be ignorant and stupid to believe that there are not other more intelligent and sentient beings out there, some of which are much older and vastly more advanced than ourselves. Whether you choose to believe or not is fine with me but personally I think that you are living in a "bubble" if you not believe that they are out there. Now when it comes to visiting us or not I think its not beyond the realm of possibility but given the natural scale of technical evolution we have experienced I do believe that we had some assistance along the way.0

I'm sure a lot of you have seen this one.
The ancient glider from Egypt is not the only ancient “aerial” object discovered. Thousands of miles away from Egypt, within the borders of South and Central America, a number of nearly-identical, golden objects have been discovered in ancient tombs and other places. According to modern dating methods, the objects are at least 1,000 years old (4). Archeologists have labeled these objects as zoomorphic, meaning animal-shaped (4). The question is: what animal do they represent? Each objects have a distinct, vertical tail fin very similar to the vertical stabilizer of an airplane. The tail could not be mistaken for a bird’s tail, which is horizontal and fanned out, or a fish’s tail, which does not have side fins directly below its tail fins. What is more, the objects each have horizontal tail stabilizers and triangular wings that are all in the same geometric plane (pun not intended). Zoomorphic objects clearly resemble the animals they represent, so that classification is incorrect.0 -

Probably fact, somewhere in the universe. Here on Earth or even in our solar system, though? I have seen no good evidence for it. In fact, at this point, the only way I'd be convinced is if I saw said aliens with my own eyes under conditions not conducive to error or hallucination.
At which point, by the way, I'd sell our entire species out for a ride in a space ship and a souvenir mug!0
