flat stomach success?

  • Ahhhh. The age old question on here on whether weight training or cardio will burn belly fat.

You need cardio for stamina, endurance and a flying metabolism
You need weights for strength, muscle building, and toning.

I'm not sure which program will work for you, but I would suggest following the advice of low sugar and maintaining calorie cutting for sure. I would mix up between weights and cardio. Try working out in one area about 80% and the orher 20% for 3 - 4 weeks, and see if that improves. If not then switch it around. I don't believe in ust focusing in one aspect without the other complimenting the other.

Also, just targeting one area (abs for most) doesn't help. You'll have a strong core, but still hold on to a flabby belly.

220(?) to 133 at 5'8, my stomach has definitely got flatter!
I think the first picture was '08, and the other ones were taken about 10 minutes ago.
Nothing special, lots of cardio in the last 6 months and portion control have helped. Going veggie has also helped the bloating.

In terms of tips, definitely don't leave out strength/core from your routine. Cardio burns fat but you need to tighten as you lose. Leg presses/waling on a high incline on the treadmill and using a stability ball have all been great! I've lost 12 inches around my stomach mainly through diet and recently exercise.

Awesome results! I noticed that your stretch marks aren't even noticeable in the after photos. Did you do anything to get rid of them?

It's just the quality of the webcam! Stretchmarks are most certainly still there!

Took me about four months to get to what you see in my profile pic. I don't have any before pictures that show my bare stomach but if you look through the pics on my profile you can get a pretty good idea of what it was like before I started. Cardio and strength training coupled with a good diet made it all happen.

The only way to achieve success of any kind is with hard work

^^^Agreed and would like to add if I may... hard *kitten* work over a long *kitten* period of time.

zipnguyen is one of my inspirations that tells me I CAN.

I have before pics and current pics, and at 47, I have determined I want to put the hard yards in too, just to get the 'better' body.

It will be a while, but I can DO it ! Summer 2013 is my goal to be 'beach ready'.

Below is the body I took to the beach last month with the hope that I wouldn't empty the beach. And I didn't ! lol

That day was my personal challenge to have confidence in my own skin. The milk bottle of water is a tribute as to how I got that far. Not busting my butt either. But, I am entering 'busting' my butt mode.

Not exactly poster boy for weight loss on it's own, but flab, er, flat is what it looks like. My spare tyre is now not so much a truck tyre but maybe a BMX Bike tyre :o)

    wowee! awesome results
  • You can't spot reduce & to have flat stomach, you must reduce your overall body fat percentage. Mine is already flat but I'm aiming to see my abs & so far I still got a lot of work to do. What I did was change my diet, as much as possible I eat whole foods & only occassionally do I eat at McDonald's. No sodas, no sugary drinks & I only drink one serving of red wine every Christmas Eve. Of course workout is also important mainly weight training + cardio. It took me a year actually to be able to get this far.

You can see the picture in my ticker.
