I'm usually too focused to even think about it. I'm trying to get all I can out of my workout. However,if it ever came up after my workout (a smile, idle chit chat,a "wow" comment) then that would be cool. However, being the 3-toed sloth that I am,I won't have to worry about this happening..(j/k). But,most of the people in my gym are way too focused/intense to even think about it.....

Never flirted, I've said hi to women I see there regularly and struck conversations with people but I was just being friendly. I was always told not to hit on women at the gym that it's creepy.

Guys smiling or talking to girls always comes across as creepy.

Girls smiling or talking to guys is always welcome .... go figure!
  • Funny story, I had my headphones on and was watching TV while working out, and was smiling and laughing at the show I was watching, and I happened to look at this guy while I was smiling and next thing I know he starts working out on the machine next to me. (The gym was empty, he has an option of 10 other same machines) He kept trying to talk to me. So be careful when you got your headphones on LOL!
    Creepy indeed!
  • I had a female who had her male co-worker approach me at our gym and he proceeded to give me her number. it was definitely 1 of the weirdest experience I have ever had. we ended up meeting or like a blind date (even though we went to the same gym for months ). Too make a long story short she was attractive but a basket case.

I'm glad I came across this post ... There are actually a few guys at the gym I think are REALLY good looking ... and I've heard them talk to other guys before and they seem nice..... I wouldnt mind chatting them up, but im not really sure what to say ... I could try the whole damsel in distress thing ( "uh omg i dont know how to use these 5 pound dumbbells") buttttt thats not me lol . Plus, I'm usually beastin on the elliptical at the highest incline, so I dont think I could pull off the whole "im too fragile, I need a man to help me lift a weight" thing lol ... Any other ideas????

Ask for spot while squatting heavy.
  • The difference between creepy and complimentary is very easy. If a woman finds the guy attractive, it is complimentary. Otherwise it is creepy.

I was always told not to flirt at the gym. Then on MFP I'm told women love to be flirted wtih at the gym because it's a good place to meet people who have similar fitness goals.

Last week I had this on my status on here and FB... I tried this theory out.

I walked up to a woman I found attractive. I smiled at her and said "how's it going?"

    She responded with "**** off"

So yeah. I' go back to the "never flirt at the gym" mantra. Lesson learned lol.
    ROTF! Too funny!

Thats not too much of a bother to ask someone to take time out of their workout to help me with mine??

lol yea I would have no idea how to flirt at the gym! I think everyone is so focused on themselves that its hard to socialize plus everybody has their headphones in all the time! I had always wondered how to strike up more conversation w some of the guys just bc I thought the gym would be an awesome person to meet a guy with similar interests as myself lol There is this one guy I ran into DT one night while out w friends and he is a regular at the gym, always there at the same time as myself and we recognized each other and ever since we say hi when we see each other at the gym!! other than that, Im pretty zoned in on myself and what I am doing while at the gym.

I personally have never flirted in the gym because I'm pretty focused on working out when I'm there, but I wanted to know for those of you who do how do you flirt? Is it eye contact , a smile, commenting on someone’s workout, there outfit , there progres , or do you just walk right up ?
Nothing is more distracting or annoying. And I can tell the difference between the ladies there to be seen as opposed to those engaged in an actual workout.

These barbie dolls will get what they think they desire along with all the baggage that comes with a gym romance.

Nope. Not all all. I ask for a spot when I'm trying to maximize my workouts. I usually ask right after the person is done with their set. So it's really only cutting into their recovery time.

But the spot on the squatting is a bit of an inside joke. Imagine doing a free weight squat and how a guy would have to spot you.

That's actually really rude (what she said). If I am working out and someone says "hi" or "how's it going?" I at least smile, nod, say hi...there's no reason to tell someone to F off just for greeting a person...even if I'm on the treadmill or track I will at least nod (since I might be too out of breath to say anything lol) and smile...it's easy to be polite whether you're inviting further attention or not...

Yeah...sweat dripping out of my hair and off my face is not my best look. I tend to avoid looking at anyone. However when I was working with a client and looking civilized because I hadn't worked out yet, this one guy kept staring at me and I wondered what was wrong with me or what he thought I was doing wrong with my client. He was HUGE..a gigantic bodybuilder. When I finished with my client and was starting my own workout, as I passed him, he stopped me and made a little conversation, then asked me to lunch. I was totally floored!

She was letting me know that my body fat % was too high for me to be talking to her ;) The guy that looked like he came off of Jersey Shore had much better luck with her than I did lol.

I don't flirt at the gym to focused on me....but last week a guy that I chatt with about workouts and vitamins just came out and asked if I was single along with telling me I am shaping up real good. Honestly, it made me feel real uncomfortable and now I try to change my workout time because it made me so uneasy.

At the gym I'm all business. I put my earplugs in, and I get in my zone. I may see some attractive women, but in the middle of a work out is NOT the time for anyone to be talking to me.

Magic! ;) She likes the jersey shore hairless low body fat type guys. What can I say? I'm the long haired metal viking barrel chested type guy.
    cause he was orange?

He was indeed orange. That may have been an appeal. She could be into citrus....

One time some guy I'd never seen before came up to my car when I was leaving the gym and said he noticed me in the gym before when that was my first time there in at least a week or two. I thought he was a creeper so I only rolled my window down half way and tried to leave but he kept talking, asking me where I lived a couple times (I of course would not answer) and said that he needed a good woman and I looked like I was a nice person, etc. I now carry my keys so I can easily poke an eye out if some creeper is lurking outside the gym.
I always think who wants to talk to me while I'm all sweaty anyways.

I don't consider eye contact @ the gym flirting. However, if it's in combination with hello & goodbye, that's flirting. Also, if I'm complimented on my hair or outfit @ the gym, which I have; I would consider that flirting too.

Lol, eye contact and a "hello" is flirting? I was taught it was polite. Well, I guess I'm flirting with everyone I see all day long, because I'm the girl who says "hi" to anyone.

And this is why I am oblivious as to whether not someone is interested.
