They are soo cute and you can put a very lovely low cal lunch in there. It's portion control because everything is supposed to fit in that box!!

here are some pictures of ones that I've seen they are soo cute and it makes you fell so happy when it looks as pretty as it is yummy!!

If you like Sushi many Japanese/Sushi Restaurant that have a variety of great/Healthy food. I used to go to one that had a bento box with sushi or sashimi/ choice of meat chicken, shrimp, steak and you have 4 or 5 options how you wanted it cooked.

I used to eat these 3 to 4 times per week when I worked near this place.

Many do lunch special and you can get these for like $6 which is very inexpensive for a lunch of this quality
  • I would like to buy just the empty boxes, where can you find them?

The one that I used was a tupperware that I found when cleaning out my cupboards over the weekend. As for finding the adorable looking little boxes, you can find them on Amazon.com. I think there is one more site .........give me a chance to look it up.

I found the site.... there's a few links for stores and there is a store locator on there too. I'm just gonna stay happy with my tupperware untill I get really good with making them. Or maybe as a reward at the "last 5 or 10 pounds" mark

And yes I made it myself:heart: very yummy

I just learned something.....there is a special way to pack a bento box. It's devided into 8 parts

    4 parts carbs( ex rice)
    2 partsveggie
    2 part protien
    1 part something else

I've seen many different cobo though like one that was ALL FRUIT:love: and they say that it's pretty good for portion control because you are not supposed to put fatty or oily foods ( they get all messy) and if you're smart it usually a calorie per ml the box can hold....example a 500 ml container could hold 500 cals.......but you still have to use MFP to find the real cal count!!!!

This is food portions for the full day? or one meal? That would probably be a day for me, Handy idea...not sure I completely understand it yet though...I'll go back and do some rereading.

Thanks D for sharing it and the links:flowerforyou:

I'm sad about what I just found.....the tupperware I was using is 950 ml!!!! Thta's like twice the size they should be!!!

It's okay though...i calculated the cals for what I made and it came to be about 500.....so it just depends on what you put in it

Ok, just so I understand 2 proteins, 4 carbs, 1 fruit (which is another carb) and 'something else' for one meal? I mean one box = one meal is what you meant when you said "it's only for one box" So that would be 5 carbs at one meal, 2 protein portions at 1 meal and 'something else' ( )

That seems like alot of food for one meal...ah well, we're all at different places... just curious was all. Your box looked nicely arranged.:flowerforyou:

ok, since I have yet to jump on the net to check them out but I plan too :)

Your container there is very pretty, I can see the idea being very appealing and colorful for a meal..

I didn't mean to question your quanties in the least D, I was simply trying to understand a bit better, that's all:bigsmile:

Thanks for the thread, I'll be back to it:flowerforyou:

I found the ratio for Bento boxes as released by the Japanese govmt.

    3 parts grains
    1 part protein
    2 parts vegetables

It should not include any junk food or have open spaces.

    I used to have this:

    http://www.amazon.com/Zojirushi-Bento-Stainless-Steel-lined-Silver/dp/B000246GSE/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1236106129&sr=8-1

And then I lost it in a move. I miss Mr. Bento! I may just treat myself to a new one. Oddly, there's also a "Ms. Bento". . .I'm researching the difference. :flowerforyou:

    First bento I ever made.
I put mine in a Lock & Lock tupperware box.

    White Rice
    Umeboshi (Japanese Pickled Plum)
Cucumber Salad with Vinegar as dressing
2 Strawberries to fill empty space
    2 Chinese (pork?) Steamed dumplings
And a couple bottles of sauce for the dumplings. :)

    I got them here : http://shop.iloveobento.com/products/animal-sauce-bottles
    They're only $3.50 for a set of 6, and they're re-usable!
My little dropper that came with them broke, though, so it sucks trying to get the sauce into the containers without it.

I am so buying some of those. I carry a full-size bottle of gluten free soy in my purse to the sushi restaurant. Those are so much better, and less risk of having a pint of tamari loose in my bag.

    Thanks!:flowerforyou:
