  • i was wondering the same question since we are going out this weekend for a friends birthday! now i have all kinds of good ideas!!! thanks!
  • I recommend a hard liquor (Vodka, Rum, Tequila, something like that) mixed with non-caloric items. The reasoning for this is that having any kind of sugar (fruit juice, V8 or sugared cola) affects your insulin levels and causes a hunger response. Beer will do the same thing, since it has a lot of natural sugars in it.

Hard liquor does not typically contain natural sugar (they have been converted to alcohol) unless it is falvored after the distilling process. Alcohol is the only item that does not require insulin for the body to process it (go figure), therefore it does not trigger the munchies. (That is why beer drinkers get a beer belly, but people who drink a lot of scotch or the like, tend to be skinnier.) These are both things that I learned as a nurse.

SO- while calories are usually calories, the lack of effect on insulin may be worth taking into consideration.
