Hi all,

Ok, so a few years, when leaving Uni, I came out at just shy of 20 Stone..... About 125kg, give or take a few for those of you non-British :)

It's taken a while to shift, and at long last, I'm getting close to where I want to be. At the moment, I'm about 91.5 (tomorrow is my next weigh in, and that's what I'm expecting), so I'm pretty pleased with where I am, but I want to try and push on this year and get down to 85kg. I could probably push on from there, but to be honest, I feel I'm finding a nice balance between my weight and my enjoyment of life (read going out for dinner and nights out with friends, and spending a fair bit of time experimenting in the kitchen with food that isnt always calorie light.....), so that is the goal I'm setting, which I feel is about right for me.

Anyway, I'm currently doing the 30 day shred to get the new year off to a good start, and am about 7 days into that now. I plan to keep this up and see out the program, but I also want to spend a bit more time in the gym and work on building my lean muscle to aid with fat loss.

Having not ever really gotten too into resistance training before, I was wondering if any of you could point me to some good sites to firstly start building an understanding of how to train effectively and some good training plans?

I'm not particuarly interested in bulking up as such, I just want to build a good base to help continue with the fat burning and to have a good basis to move on should I decide to in the summer.

Any tips?

Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe is extremely good.

A lot of people here talk about "New rules to lifting" or something that sounds like that.

There is also the 5x5, its great for a progressive strength build for both men and women.
