cottage cheese?

I bought cottage cheese at the grocery store the other day... I've never had it before but I've heard it's healthy and tasty. Is it supposed to be sweet, or savory? I was thinking of dipping carrots in it, but then I saw something about putting raisins and cinnamon in it?

How do you usually eat your cottage cheese? does it need anything added (salt, spices, sugar) or is it customarily enjoyed as is?

Kind of a blank canvas really. I mix lots of things in depending on what I have laying around. Go to mix ins for me are yogurt, fresh fruit, or protein powder.

Pineapple and Cottage cheese is by far the best way to have it... it's a blank canvas really... just adds texture

I love cottage cheese with pepper!
  • I love to eat it with Quaker sea salt and black pepper rice cakes. It's like chips and dip to me. I hate cottage cheese plain or with fruit added, but love it with the rice cakes.

I find cottage cheese pretty salty tasting, so I usually add something sweet to it, like cinnamon or honey.

Cottage cheese and pepper is my favorite way too!

Also I like it with sunflower seeds mixed in.

It also works really well with sweet flavors, I think rich sweet flavors are best. Dark berries, dried cherries, etc.

But it's very good as a veggie dip as well (especially bell peppers!)

Yummy, I love cottage cheese! I'm kind of a purist--I like it plain the best. lol Otherwise, for something sweet, I like canned peaches added to it.
I also like to put it on top of spaghetti sauce or chili-kind of a cool, creamy texture that adds to the tomato-y flavors.
But like others have said, it's kind of a blank canvas.
  • I dip my wheat thins in it. Delish! :)

I like fresh pineapple or strawberries with a small amount of strawberry yogurt mixed in. I prefer it with sweet fruit in it. Lots of protein in cottage cheese! I had some for lunch as a matter of fact!
  • I put very LITTLE sea salt in and just eat it like that.
It's good with salad greens too!

  • I eat it with black pepper and crushed red pepper. I like mine savory and obviously a little spicy

I generally either just eat it plain or mix some frozen blueberries, mango, or even dry cereal in with it. I've also put it on toast. It's really up to you to be creative and find what you like with it.

Can be either sweet or savoury, a bit like natural yoghurt.

I like it piled onto rice cakes. It's good with slices of cucumber, a grind of black pepper, or studded with blueberries.

I love chilli so i either put a few drops of tabasco or a chopped chilli! Usually have it with carrots, cucumber and peppers (capsicum). Had it on toast once too, that was pretty good!

Cottage cheese - yum. Lots of things you can do with it.

    1. Cottage cheese Scramble - 1 egg, 1/4 cup egg whites, 1/4 cup cottage cheese, 1 chopped up turkey sausage link, 2 tbl skim milk. Whisk together and fry up like scambled eggs.

    2. Mix cottage cheese w/ apple sauce and cinnamon & raisins

    3. Mix cottage cheese with vegetable or onion soup mix and use as a dip with veggies or pita chips.

    4. Mix cottage cheese with low fat sour cream, salsa, taco seasoning, or black beans and serve hot or cold as a mexican dip.

    5. Whip cottage cheese with cocoa and splenda for chocolately mousse. Add a little PB2 (powdered peanut butter). Eat it cold or put it in the freezer for a little while until it gets a more ice creamy like consitency.

    6. Protein pancakes ..... someone has a recipe (uses oats).... I'll have to look for it

I particularly like the Breakstone's 2% cottage cheese in the 4-pack. I pair mine with tinned, drained mandarin oranges. I've been eating that since I was a little girl, so it doesn't even seem like a "diet food" to me.

I'm a big fan of black pepper, and now I want to try it with that as well! Good suggestion everyone!
