i'm actually quite insulted that this person thought i had a "problem" personally i think your taking your job far too serious ..... just because a person mentions alcohol or says they want some or whatever does NOT mean they have a problem or addiction ! i means they enjoy having a drink in moderation like most of the population ..... choose your words carefully and do dont accuse or assume0

Actually this thread has been AMAZING!!! So far I have had several people message me and a few people that are currently new to recovery that were slobbering over this post at the thought of having some alcohol. My comments snapped them back to reality.
So thanks for this.
Not saying you aren't helping some people but I dont think it's fair for you to automatically jump to a person has a drinking problem. I enjoy a drink occassionally and was wondering the same thing. If reading a post makes some start slobbering then they do have a problem and do need help. If they are just asking a question that does not equate to they have a problem.
Exactly, and I did not accuse her of having a problem, I said if you can not imagine living with out alcohol then it is a problem. If you go all day and are depressed because you can not have alcohol it is a problem. I did not accuse anyone of having a problem.
See, the thing is, if my answers are upsetting people thats their business, not mine.
It's certainly an insinuation.

MMM, yeah, still not caring that people are upset that I say that if you have a problem not drinking, it is a problem. Trust me, work with recovering alcoholics and see where it has taken them and what it has done, you may just change your mind about thinking I am insulting people.
The issue is alcohol and dieting, its best if it is given up, that was the answer to the question.
People that can take it or leave it, and drink in moderation, well that is not a problem. Its when it is a problem that it is a problem.
Alcoholics are not the people you pass by that are living on the streets. The people I work with are business women, housewives, actresses, teachers, you name it. There is no shame in it. People are born with the disease, it is not a chosen path.

Ok seriously, this woman is asking for healthy alternatives....you're being pompous and arrogant. No one is upset at what you say...just letting you know you look and are acting ridiculous. She asked a simple question and because you work with alcoholics you think you have a right the barf your judgements on her? Really? This is not AA...she was asking for healthier drink alternatives...thank you for preaching to everyone about alcoholism when that's not what the question was about. Smh...0 -
Vodka soda with lime AND a splash of cranberry. SO GOOD. And I agree, dance it all off! Just stay away from the drunk food... this is always my problem.0

i honestly don't think you have a clue about your job ! its not a disease .... jesus christ ! meh i'm bored of this0

emma this post is hilarious!! clearly she has NO problem .. she asked a question whats an alternitive .. wanting suggestions .. just like we all want alternitives to bad foods which arent good for you but we all enjoyed. . some people need to chill jeeeeeez...

I don't think she asked if anyone thinks she 'should' be drinking alcohol, she's asked for advice on low calorie alcohol ideas. If someone came on and asked for low calorie dessert ideas do you tell them they should just do without and get off on the abstinence instead? Please! I thought we were meant to be more supportive than that, and less judgemental.
My friends socialise almost exclusively in pubs and licensed restaurants, I do like to have a drink with them, I am also trying to cut down on my calorie intake from alcohol and find alternatives to my usual white wine drink. The bottle on the table is a bad idea because you can refill your glass too often (or others for you) and you're not really monitoring how much you're drinking with the 'top ups' etc.
Currently I have vodka and soda with fresh lime in a tall glass. Tall glass is great because it takes longer to drink. Having to order a new drink each time means I know exactly how much I'm consuming. Absolutely avoid mixers, even juice etc as that just has sugary calories and you're most likely getting heavily processed stuff (instead of fresh squeezed) which means you may as well order a full glass of fizzy drink.
Also if anyone is like me and cops a bit of friendly flack from mates for cutting down on booze, this vodka soda drink is ideal, because when it's my round and drinking at a slower pace, I'll just get a plain soda water and fresh lime and no one is any the wiser.0 -
Reading these reponses made me angry!!! She was just asking a simple question and you making assumptions shows how ignorant you are and quick to judge.
Emma.....dont listen to some of these people! We all make our own choices and you shouldnt't be made to feel like **** becasue of other peoples beliefs! I am in a band and frequently play bars, do I drink all the time.....No, but when i do it's Dos Equis. hahaha J/k I couldn't resist.
I go for Vodka and soda's, I have them add a splash of cran for a little sweetness. Other then that I usually opt for white wine!
Keep up your good work and dont worry about what others say.0 -
Just save up some calories and drink!0

Also, with the vodka sodas, you can alternate with just soda water with lime so you can moderate easier without anyone bothering you ab why youre not drinking....that gets annoying for real0

Many restuarants like Applebee's and Outback Steakhouse offer "Slim" or "Skinny" drinks which average at or under 200 calories ! I had a skinny margarita at Outback Streakhouse for 190 calories and it was delicious!0

Diet coke and vodka.. Ignore my username lol, I still love tequila but gave up my favorite drink... Margarita on the rocks ((350 calories for some))!!0

I'm sure your heart is in the right place and I admire what you do but some 80% of the population use alcohol safely and moderately without any detrimental effects resulting. Automatically spouting warnings of the danger of alcoholism in a forum such as this is perhaps a tad presumptuous.
OP:I prefer a nice well aged highland Scotch neat but that's a treat. Jack and Coke Zeros aren't bad and I enjoy Amstel Light as well as as a good dry red wine. All these are pretty low cal. Enjoy!0 -
So, do you think a little heroine for an addict would be okay? Ya know, giving them a little slack?
If alcohol is a problem, listen folks, it is a problem. If you can not give it up, then IT IS A PROBLEM!
YES!! I WOULD give "heroine" to a junky. It would be nice to have a woman of distinguished courage on their side.
You = AWESOME. I was thinking the same thing.0 -
I had to give up alcohol more or less entirely for 4 years what with pregnancy, pnd, pregnancy again, and then breastfeeding a baby that was on daily antibiotics for 5 months, and I hated it! I was so happy to get to have a glass of champagne every now and again after that. I don't NEED to drink, and I no longer get drunk (though I admit I have many times in the past), but a glass of really good red wine in the evening when my family get together is one of the best feelings out there. And it's not the alcohol, I just really really like Italian wine. I grew up with it, know more than is sane about it, I love visiting the vineyards, talking to the producers, tasting on site. I just love it. I don't drink often. Sometimes I go months without, but I loathed having to give it up entirely, because good wine is one of life's greatest pleasures.
So to answer the OP, I just factor in more calories for the day if I am planning on having a drink later. I go for an extra run. And drink Tuscan red or champagne. Champagne is lower in calories.0 -
i go out alot and i would rather find a healthy alternative rather than give it up helpppp?

I personally enjoy sipping on a good 12 or 18 year scotch and water. A 1 oz shot of scotch only has about 69 calories.0
