Same thing happened to me. I went from a 38 C to a 34 DD. It has to do with losing back fat and the difference between bust and under bust measurements account for the cup size.

ETA - Also wanted to mention that I have lost considerable inches from my bust, 5.5", (yay!) so they haven't gotten bigger and so far they seem to be holding up rather well (double yay!!).

For anyone who is actually interested, this website actually shows you how to properly measure yourself for bras at home:

    http://www.brasizecalculator.tk/

(complete with drawings showing where measurements are to be taken, so may not be safe for work).

A cup size makes very little difference. If you go up 2 band inches, you can go down a cup size. So a 38C is essentially the same as a 36D.

I saw this topic and thought "what does your waist size have to do with whether or not you get the 32oz or 44oz Super Big Gulp fountain drink at 7-11." Not enough coffee this morning. Maybe I need a bigger cup.

I'm exactly the same, down in bra size but up in cup size..(I was 38C and now I'm 34 D) ...it just means our back is getting smaller but our girls are staying put :-D we might well be very lucky gals as its not likely to be the norm. I'm almost at goal and it looks like these puppies are going nowhere (cue one very happy hubby! lol)

Fun fact, a 36D and a 38C are the exact same cup size in volume! All that's changed is that your band has gone down (underbust has gotten smaller), the volume of your breasts are the same.

Edit: This is what I get for not reading the other posts, lol. Sorry for repeating what so many others have said.

I actually went up in cup size as well - I started off as a 48DD - now I am the proud owner of 36DDD - I was expecting to go down to at least a D cup, so I was surprised - then I did some research - the cup sizes work in proportion to the back sizes, so even though in comparison, the cup size sounds bigger, it is only in relation to the back size - so while everything shrunk, my proportions went a little off -- not all cup sizes are created equally apparently as when I come across an old bra and try it on for kicks, my boobs float in those suckers...

so it sucks that I need to mostly order bras on line as 36DDD is a really hard size to find at a store (the exception is Kohl's, but they tend to have minimizer style bras in that size and heck, I want to show these babies off), at the same time, I get to claim I have porn star boobs

Edit: I just wanted to say, that the DD cups worked well up until I got down to a back size of 40/42 - that's when I started noticing that I was overflowing the cups and did the research... I fully resisted buying the DDD ones until I did the measurements finally and said what the heck, go for it

40C and 38D are sister sizes. Here's an explanation about how sister sizes work: http://www.brasize.com/bra-sister-size.html

The easiest way to explain it is that a size D cup is different volumes on different band sizes. Let's say that a 40D contains 2cups (volume) of boob. A 34D will contain a lower volume of boob. Maybe only 1.5cups (volume) of boob. A 42C bra, however, may contain exactly 2cups of boob.

    God, I wish.

Although, I can interchange 38B and 36C depending on the bra, so my cup sizing depends heavily on the bra type.

IIccckkk!!! I cant stand that my Boobs got bigger,.

ive lost about 32lbs so far and have about another 40-50lbs to go...

Ive gone from a 40E (or so i thought) then to a 38DD (i thought great!! im going down) i went and got officially measured after a bra was hurting... i nearly cried!!! she said "oh your a.. 34 FF, oh wait, lets make it s G!!!" nnooo!!!

I really wish they where going smaller :(

You probably are getting smaller, you were just wearing improperly fitted bras before getting measured. Most women wear a bra with too large a band and too small a cup. I was wearing 40DDs, turns out I actually should've been wearing 36FFs. My boobs were the same size, I just wasn't wearing the right size.

Your cup size is calculated as the number of inches from your actual chest.

Your older measurements: 40 in across your chest, 43 inches including your breast = 40 C (The three inch difference is a C cup)

New measurements: 36 in across your chest, 40 inches including your breast = 36 D (The 4 inch difference is a D cup)

You actually did lose some boob

I never knew this and I've worn bras for over 40 years LOL This would explain why some of my friends tell me their skinny daughters wear a bra size like 32DD and they don't look "big" to me. It funny because the other day I had on a tight shirt and my daughter said it looked like my boobs were getting bigger, I told her it was an illusion because my waist was getting smaller, she cracked up but I guess I wasn't too far off. thanks.

As I approach the halfway mark for my weight loss goals, I am noticing something different in my body shape. I have gone from a 38-40 C to a 36 D in my bra size. Now I'm not complaining, but in the past when I have lost a large amount of weight, my chest is usually the first think to shrink. Not this time! I'm wondering if any other women out there have had a similar experience. Not sure why it would be this way other than I'm older and I'm staying hydrated with at least 8 glasses of water a day. Somewhat confused?!?
    Thank goodness I had the opposite experience. I went from a 38DD to a 36C. It's awesome.

Being well endowed is not all it's chalked up to be.

AMEN! Having been in the group of women who's been well-endowed since puberty, it kinda sucks at times (specially when trying to find cut tops that fit your boobs and your waist
