What are people doing: Counting calories or counting carbs?

I was just wondering if people find it easier to count calories or count carbs. I have been going between the 2 and as a result have not lost any weight.

I count my calories and watch my sodium.0

I count carbs. Allows me to lose weight on 5,500 calories of steak and broccoli per day.0
-
Why do you have it narrowed down to these 2 categories. You can do both if you're on a carb restricted diet but the calories are a must for most really.0

I count calories, but I also try to get a 40/30/30 split between carbs/protein/fat.0

I count calories while keeping my carb intake around 40%.
Works for me.0 -
I count calories and eat a well balanced diet. Carbs aren't bad...everything in moderation.0

ummmm....for the most part I just monitor my calories using the MFP diary. How do you do it?? I cant do Carb counting...Id always go over.0
-
Personally, calories. For weight loss, I believe it's all about calories in/calories out.0
-
Well I guess I don't know how to balance the two. So I am trying to learn from peopl who have this down packed. I find myself wanting to munch all the time.0
-
I count Carbs only.
In my opinion it's the only way to live and enjoy your food! Lobster, steak, chicken, snow peas, wine, fats (in small amounts) strawberries....Yummmmm0 -
Primarily calories, but within that try to keep under 100g carbs, and over 100g protein. But they're rough aspirations, doesn't matter too much if I don't meet them.0

Protein, then calories.0

^^^ that's a lot of protein!0 -
Ultimately, weight loss is about consuming less calories and moving more. But I think eating less carbs can help you lose weight quicker. On the other hand, low-carb dieting is very difficult to maintain for long (impossible for me!), and most people who low-carb diet gain weight back. Not to mention, if you're not a huge meat-eater, low-carb is super hard to do maintain because that's a big part of the diet. Find the diet that you can maintain for a lifetime. It'll take some time and effort and trial and error, but you can do it!0

Both, I guess. I have set number of carbs I wanna hit, so I keep an eye on that. I come close to my calorie count. And If Im not close to it. I will eat some extra good fats ( nuts and protein at night).0 -
Carbs for sure here0

Not really, I do 35% protein. 1g of protein per lb of body weight is considered the minimum for bodybuilding purposes.0 -
I count carbs, try to stay under 50-60 a day at the most and sugar as low as possible.0
-
I count calories, and try to eat a lot of protein. Every now and then I look at the numbers of the stuff I track....but ultimately it's just calories that I care about.0
-
i count calories first. the carbs i watch, but i'm burning those suckers!0
-
I keep my calories close to goal and eat lots of protein so I don't feel hungry all day. I don't really care much about carbs, except that they are delicious. :-)0
-
Only thing I count is calories, however, I make sure protein is in every meal/snack I have.
I do not eat any SIMPLE carbs except for the simple sugars that are naturally found in vegetables, dairy and nuts.
I eat oatmeal, whole grain breads, whole grain wheat pasta, whole grain rice, and meal replacement protein powder that has complex carbs in it. But I only allow myself any two from this list a day. No, I do not count carbs. Only the number of times a day I have them. And make sure they're paired with protein when I do have them.0 -
I'm counting calories, carbs and sugar...0

calories
I'd say it depends what you're doing -- losing, maintaining, building -- and if you're working out like a fiend.
At 1290/day I can't afford any refined carbs. If I indulged I wouldn't get the nutrition I need. I work in a half-cup of good carbs like lentils and quinoa at least every couple days and I eat a ton of vegetables. Some fruit. My only treat is a glass of wine once or twice a week.0 -
Only calories. I try not to overdo it with sugar and carbs but as long as I'm within my calorie goal for the day, I don't really worry about it. It's much less stressful for me.0
