Hello!

So I'm getting bored with all this talk of "working out" and "getting in shape." I keep having that little voice in my head saying "what's the point of being able to run a 5K? Why is that practical at all?" WELL! I'll tell you why it's practical! Zombies. That's right ladies and gentlemen, I'm thinking 12/21/12 is gonna be the start of the Zombie Apocalypse, and to be honest I am woefully unprepared! I can barely jog a mile! If those zombies chase after me, I'm a goner! Voila, I just gave you a life or undead situation as your future motivation to work out.

You're welcome.

p.s. always remember Rule #1: Cardio

p.p.s. yes, this is a joke =D but you'll have to admit that picturing a hoard of zombies behind you while you run is going to be awesome.

I thought I might spread the love to the rest of the my fitness pal world =D and it is mildly effective! I do have a bit of an irrational fear of zombies though....

I'm stocking up on food, water, and ammo. I'll just wait it out in a quiet, secluded house somewhere.

^^^Yes! I was just going to post this. It is the most motivation I've got for running a race. My first 5K will be a zombie race in Denver! Anyone else interested in going?
  • YES!!!! I tell people this is what I'm training for all the time! No better motivation out there. For a trial run, I'm getting ready for this:

Well, now it depends on if you are talking about the original "Night Of The Living Dead" zombies or "28 Days Later" zombies. If it is NOTLD then you might have a fighting chance, but if they can book it as in 28 Days Later, well, better start training! Me, I keep my trusty Zombie Survival Guide on me at all times!

    This. Consider it official practice.

I'll be prepared for the oncoming horde.

    Will you?

Edit: I kinda posted the link without looking to see if someone else beat me to it ... which many did. :P
But idc. It's so awesome, it SHOULD be posted several times.
    Yeah.
    I'm that serious about zombies.

    (Not really)
    (Well, kinda)

I was joking with a friend about this a few weeks ago and we decided we would both have our brains eaten within the first hour of a zombie outbreak. It did get me thinking about survival situations and needing to be fit enough to look after yourself and your family though. So zombies DID help motivate me to join MFP and start doing something. :)
I like the idea of imagining zombies behind me to do more on the tread mill, that just might work.

Edited to add the avatar photo is NOT me! (I wish)

I'm assuming Rule #1 is in reference to the rules according to Zombieland (http://www.zombielandrules.com/)

Of course the Zombie 5k looks cool too! :)

LOL I was about to post this
  • I WANT A ZOMBIE RACE IN MY CITY!!!!!!

Why do I have to live in stupid country nothing cool ever happens in :grumble: Seriously, I'll miss a REAL zombie outbreak down here.
  • Ran in the first RunForYourLives race in October outside of Baltimore. It was a lot of fun, but it was also pretty crazy. Came out bruised and bleeding, but I'm still gonna do it again this year. It's nothing like a normal 5k or even a 5k obstacle course/mudrun style race - it was more sprints and walking.

My friends and I agree that this is the best example that shows how it felt during the race.

I'd just as soon be prepared for all types of zombies. I'm assuming that's the reasoning behind the variety of zombies in the 5K...so we're prepared for anything =D

AMEN!!!!! I ran the 100 yard dash in high school and was pretty fast, but that was 15 years ago. Not so fast anymore... but still faster than most!!! I love that someone else trains with the zombie apocalypse on their mind! Hahahahahaha!!!!!!

You could end up with zombies like in L4D and L4D2 where they were ultra fast and attracted to EVERYTHING. Oh and watch out for hunters, they like to sit on tall buildings and pounce on you when you least expect it. If you hear they scream you can pretty much out run them. Oh and witches. They sit and cry until you get too close to them and then they chase after you with razor sharp claws. Very fast...

Golden rule of surviving: You don't have to outrun the zombies, you just have to out run the guy next to you.

Sorry, I'm a zombie freak and this is the only topic that I didn't scroll through yawning at

I am having my left arm amputated and replaced with a chainsaw. I hope it won't cut down on my 5k times too much.
