Ahaaa...So what your saying is that if anybody is thinking about trying Ketosis, they should look into both sides of the argument...

Which i have to agree with...
    That's right.

LadyPippen, just recited the low carb mantra. I have heard it some many times and it's so full of wrong. It's not even funny anymore.

Whoa! Thought this thread was dead or ignored! LOL Lil' update on me, I decided against the Keto diet, I'm losing weight at a steady pace and not feeling like I'm being deprived of fruits and veggies since I'm a fruit and veggie feign! I just watch my calories and exercise daily. Thanks to all of you for your feedback. :)

    Final Words

While I wholly acknowledge that carbohydrate-restricted diets work and have produced weight-loss for millions of people worldwide, this article is solely addressing the claim that they accelerate the weight-loss process through some magical metabolic effect. Yes, low and no-carbohydrate works, but (metabolically) no more than any other isocaloric diet.

At the end of the day, people will do what they want to do, whether it be low carb/high carb...I`ve read almost all the testimonials on the www.marksdailyapple.com website, and although i`ve always agreed that sites won`t put on negative comments from people, the testimonials present are many and all agree that its worked/working for them.

He also offers free downloads on some of his ebooks which i`ve found to be a good read, even if a little blinkered in his approach.

Still well worth a look if your thinking of doing Paleo/Primal.

Are fruits and veggies great? They sure are. However, grains are not the destroyers of the western civilization. The lack of activity and the over consumption of calories from ALL THREE MACRO NUTRIENTS is the cause.

This is how I got fat. Go figure! :)

Awesome! Losing weight the healthy way not the instant results way, way to go :)

Glad you ignored your doctor's "advice." Your first post really bothered me the way he prescribed something without giving you any information about it whatsoever.

I followed The Atkins diet for over 2 months. I was in a ketogenic state and yes, I lost weight at a rapid rate, over 25 pounds during that two months however I did not feel well during that time. I was tired, had a foul taste in my mouth most of the time among other things. I was ecstatic about the pounds dropped but the at the end of the day I left it behind. Yes, I gained back that whole 25 pounds in short order after stopping the diet. That was me and only me...I speak for no one else.

I lost over 120 pounds 8 years ago (calorie and portion control and exercise),kept it off for 7 years and I'm working on losing the pounds I've gained this past year. I've gone back to the calorie/portion control. I'm not going to bad mouth any type of diet.

At the end of the day we are all different...physiologically and psychologically. We need to do what works for ourselves....vegan, ketogenic, calorie restricting or any other type of diet that's out there, what ever is physically and morally comfortable. Calorie restricting works best for me. I feel the best on it and I know it works for me and I'm comfortable with it.

0-50 gr carbs a day=full ketosis quick weight loss
    50-100 gr carbs...=healthy 1-2 lbs a week fat loss
    100-150 gr carbs...=weight maintanance
    150-250gr carbs...=weight gain ( in most people)
Over 250 gr per day = can lead to long term health problems.

All above taken from the Paleo diet by Mark Sisson

Surely you don't think this applies universally to everyone? What about those cultures with a high carb diet but low rates of obesity?

I consistly eat around 150-250 + grams of carbs and I lose just fine

Less than 150, then it begins to affect my workout performance
    Less than 100 and I'm a raging B

    Everyones body is diff

(As shown on The Doctors TV show)

some people there bodies will lose weight and fuel off of carbs

others it takes protein it takes trial and error to figure out what your body is like

mine Is protein if I over do it on carbs i gain weight like no ones business

detox and other stuff like keto (like I said in my original post)

you can't do it forever its unhealthy in the long run some of your system can start to shut down if you do it for to long

you eventually have to switch it back up and eat carbs fuel the fire and keep ya moving

you stop after doing these diets for so long you will gain back twice as fast

the fact that a 450 lb doctor is prescribing you a diet that he says never worked for him should send up some red flags. You might want to do some research on how a ketogenic diet affects a person with hypothyroidism. There are many that say it will reduce your body'sability to product thyroid hormone and may make your hypo even worse. As a person with no thyroid I can tell you I feel awful and my body holds on to weight if I go too low carb.

Ketosis is not necessary in the least for fat loss. And it just sucks eating very little to no carbs. I used a variant of a ketogenic diet for awhile, and although the results were good, I get the same results eating 200g of carbohydrate every day plus more (350g+) on refeed day. I much prefer flexible dieting where I can eat pretty much what I want if it fits in my daily macros. Also, less than 100g of carbs won't fuel my heavy workouts.
