How about people who sing while working out?? I don't think they realize how loud they are because they are listening to their ipod.
Kinda funny!! but also annoying:grumble:
I TOTALLY agree. There's a guy at our gym who sings LOUDLY while jogging around the track. I refuse to believe he's not aware of what he's doing. Inevitably people who sing along to their iPods do it loudly and out of tune - nobody sounds good when they're singing to those things. With they guy at our gym, it really depends on the day. Most days I just chuckle, make eye contact with someone near me and we shake our heads in mutual amused/annoyed commiseration. On a bad day, I have to find an area where I can't hear him or turn my own iPod up even louder (not good for the eardrums, but what are you gonna do). But, yeah, singing while working out - not a good look in my book.0 -
I rather smell perfume/cologne rather than nasty body odor- Last night I was at the gym hopped on the elliptical and started my cardio I started smelling something but didn't think nothing of it- then it started getting stronger and stronger- so I started to wonder is it me so I smelled myself and it wasnt me but then I looked to the right of me and the smell got stronger it was the lady next to me and WOW :noway: - I believe the stench was coming from her hair and it got stronger as she sweat more I wanted to puke  - I couldn't get off the elliptical because I was already half way into my workout plus all the other machines were taken it was brutal-- lol..0

It's too hard to hold in a fart while on the elliptical!
This thread is absolutely hilarious... and man, do I need a laugh tonite... :laugh:0 -
That does not bug me as much as when the Gym employees have pizza while I am there working out. OMG the smell of pizza... the smell lingering all throughout the gym ***drool*** Yeah its a tad bit distracting0

wow. seriously? don't they have break rooms for that kinda thing? lol or at least eat it elsewhere.0 -
Ugh! That gets to me too because heavy perfume will trigger migraines for me.
Another one is I keep getting behind this woman (I'll call her black/seafoam green spandex), and she is on the machine in front of me and always seems to pass gas!
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW !!! NO WAY! :noway:0 -
Ok, how about people wearing 4-5 chains around their neck when their working out, i don't get that, they can't take them off, especially men, that makes me go  !!!0

I work out in our gym at work during the week and our rec center on Saturdays (some Sundays).
At work, the gym is tiny (two treadmills, one elliptical, one bike and a smith machine). There are a couple chicks that go at noon, a couple that go at 1, I go at 1:30 or 2, another comes in around 2:30, there are a couple guys that workout in the evening and sometimes I will come back around 6 when no one is there.
But, there's this one guy.... :indifferent: He's ALWAYS in there after 3 p.m. I've had to postpone my days sometimes till a 3 p.m. or 4 p.m. workout (we get off work at 5), and he'll be hanging out in the locker room, come out, lift a few weights, go back in the locker room for a long time, come back out, mess with the treadmill (I don't think he knows how to work it), walk for a while, go back in the locker room... He's just weird.
I have noticed, though, within the past few weeks, attendance at the gym and work AND the rec center has spiraled down dramatically! Three weeks ago on Saturday at the rec, every machine would be taken. Last Saturday, there were three of us in the entire room! It was wonderful. :flowerforyou:0 -
Haha I wear Secret deodorant... um "Secret" brand, not...
Well, you get what I'm saying.
Anyway, it smells SO GOOD, but I imagine that the more that I sweat, probably the more that it smells. (It's a lavendar scent, which I usually hate, but in this deodorant I love it!) I thought about if the smell bothers anyone else, but then I realized that I don't really care. Personally, I'd much rather smell deodorant or perfume than body odor--I have a REALLY weak stomach, and really bad smells and gross things make me vomit.
Honestly, the time that I'm at the gym, it's all old people. I go during the day while my husband sleeps (he works third shift) and the kids are napping, so it's nearly all oldies there.
As for hair being up, I've forgotten when I was in a rush before to put my *short* hair up in pigtails or a really short (and probably stupid-looking) ponytail, and I can't stand that. I sweat from my head--if my hair isn't up, it itches the heck out of my neck. How could anyone work out without their hair off their necks?0 -
My perfumed treadmill guy is a college age kid who has more cologne on than the perfume counter at Macy's (I'm sure he is trying to turn the girls on). He then turns the machine on, then starts his stretching routine. Jumps on for a few mins, gets off (machine still running), goes to the bathroom or locker room, then finally comes back for the rest of his workout. He doesn't care if there are people waiting for the machine (no time slots).0

All these reasons are why I go to the YMCA to work out when I need to go to a gym (spring coming, outside stuff from here on out hopefully!!!!!). The nice sparkly equipment at an expensive gym is nice, but if you can't use it because it's full or too weird in there, what good is it?
Yes the equipment sucks at the Y, yeah, it's a little run down, yeah there are tons of kids running around. But not in the exercise room, and only a couple of "show" moms and weight room hangers on. Mostly it's just serious people who want to work out and who don't care about their appearance.
I come from a college football atmosphere, and as F***** up as that world is (you guys don't know the half of it) the weight room was serious business. You didn't go in there and talk, you went in under the watchful eye of a weight coach, who screamed at you if you took more then 1 minute between sets or had the balls to talk to someone instead of focusing on your breathing between sets. Seriously, dude was a tyrant.0 -
Im not sure if my gym doesn't have alot of people, or I just go at odd times, but I have never had to wait for a machine...thank goodness. I am VERY imaptient and my time at the gym is very limited.:noway:
Although, they just opened a new gym in the area and its $19.95 a month...mine is $50 with classes included. BUT......THEY ALL HAVE TO WAIT FOR MACHINES!!!! I'd rather pay the extra $$ to go, workout, and come home.0 -

Hay don't get me wrong I love talking about working out, if someone has a question or just wants to shot the *kitten* cool. Just not when I'm working out.
As a trainer people are aways coming over to the desk to ask things or just to talk " hay how's your day"
there are two time I will blow you off. First like I said when I'm working out
Second is if I'm training someone, I will be much more polite when I'm working.
there is a time and place to shot the breeze and in the "man" room is not the place.
anyone caught reading while one any machine WILL be worked out till they puke.:huh:0 -

I got caught yawning during a class the other day. The instructor shot me a look like she was the devil.
Needless to say, she worked our A$$es off....OOPS:yawn:0 -
One more....
I think EVERY gym has that ONE person who goes just to socialize.
There is this one guy. EVER time I see him, he's all decked out in his "workout clothes" but I have NEVER seen him actually workout. I thought maybe he worked there, but NOPE...LOL
He constantly goes up to people and talk to them (at least for the hour that I am there)
And YES...He has come up to me. Asked me what I was watching on TV, told me he is a dentist (Yeah, Right)
hay what you doin? Do you come to the gym often? really how your workouts
I use to have a guy come talk to me every workout it pis*edme off so the last time he walked up to me I walked away
I was so angry because A) He was talking to me and ruining my routine He was interrupting my show C) He wouldn't go away. He started to lean on the machine like he was hanging out.
I guess I should start wearing my wedding rings to the gym...HUH???0 -

what you should do is tell him to F off and hit the bars if he wants to pick up chicks0 -
I didn't read all the posts, so there may be one like this out there, but...
How about this - there is a girl at the gym I used to go to who would where this skimpy little outfit, her long, blond hair is down, her face is caked with makeup (mine usually has my little bit on b/c I go after work..but her's is always way too much). She goes to a treadmill right next to the mirror, and bounces along slowly on an incline...every few minutes, glancing at herself in the mirror and tossing her hair behind her shoulder.
Ugh.0 -
Oh, or the people at work who come to the gym, don't change from their work clothes, do about 5 reps, stand around watching tv for another 5 minutes before going back to do another set, and then walk on the treadmill in a snail's pace. It's annoying. Why bother working out? Geez.0

ya...but maybe they are scared, or just learning or just starting out....even doing that little bit is better than sitting at home eating cookies, right?
there can be alot of distractions at the gym....ignore them,,,,have fun...0 -
I don't know but you should mention it to the gym employees. Usually you're not ALLOWED to wear strong smelling colognes in places liek that because a lot of others have allergies. perhaps they could put up "please do not..." signs in the changerooms. I hear ya though, strong perfumes give me migraines
Kerri, I have a migraine right now from those chemically laiden airfresheners my dh put in his truck. I found 5 of them......FIVE...........do you think he is trying to kill me:huh:0 -
I hate seeing girls with long hair at the gym and it not be put up- I know looking at them that they aren't gonna have a serious workout with their hair down and I am right- I just want to say stop coming here to try and look cute nobody cares and you look stupid and if your not going to workout get the hell off the machine--
UGH I HATE it when I need a machine because it's super cold or pouring rain outside, and there are a bunch of idiots on them going at 1 RPM and no resistance leisurely reading a magazine! They're just in my way. The other day I scared two girls off the hyperextension machine. I walked away (I'm talking 10 feet) for a SECOND to get another weight, and I even left a weight on the pads and they took at and started to use it! With terrible form! I walked back over and said "Oh, my weight, thanks," and took it from the girl who was holding it.
I don't get how people read on any machine. First off I would get sick, secondly, how can you really be working out?
The hair. Mine isn't even that long and if I don't attempt to pull it up it is soaked and if I shook it would be like a wet dog! I was stupid enough to find that out the hard way last week.
I hate fighting for space at the gym. I go early and spend my time in 'manland' (what I call the free weights since I usually am the only one of my type there) to avoid the magazine reading Barbie moms.
I call that the Man's grunt room- it is loaded with Men- I like to call it the Sweaty B*LLs room too lol my husband laughs cause as we finish cardio I say its time to go in the Sweaty B*LLs room- I dont know how people read either I would get a headache - One of my fitness mags said if you read while working out your not working out hard enough-
I call it the Gorilla Cage. Ours is black with, dark gray mats and steel everywhere. Looks like a cage...........then you hear all the grunting and think of gorillas.
As for the hair...........I wear my down because the pony tail gives me a headache and I cant lie on the machines with a big ball in the back of my head. So I will be one of those girls with very long hair.............but check my HRM I am working in the 90% of my HR zone!!0 -

 I always have a magazine at my elliptical machine. I can't usually read the stuff (maybe during warm up but not usually after) but I do like to look at the pictures when my mind starts to wander.
I have a really short attention span, it's hard for me to focus on a workout for more than twenty minutes, so the only way I can stay on the equipment after my mind starts to wander is to have something for it to wander to! IE: pictures of people with bulging muscles. Heheheh.
I can't do the magazine thing at the treadmill. When I'm running it just makes me a bit sea sick to try and look at the pictures, so instead I focus on this big poster they have on the wall that has a list of 100 things that make life better, or whatever. Running, heart rate at 170bpm and gasping for air I can still read the damned thing... and it helps me focus and keep running.
I did discover if I don't have an outward focus I give up sooner.
Anyway, just thought I'd share a different perspective to the magazine haters.0 -
My 2 biggest gym *****es are the cologne/perfume thing. I mean we are breathing harder than ever and must catch the chemicals each breath........no choice
and
PPl who use the treadmill on the highest incline and then hold on to the top for dear life. Are they really accomplishing anything? I have looked over at the HR and it is 125........mine is on 6 @3.5 and I am using my core to get up the hill.....my HR is 145-150...........I am working my butt off (hopefully literally!!00 -
I love this!
My gym peeves:
- the people on the eliptical that add hand movements... there is a girl that seems like she is waving, when she is on it, it is so distracting for me. I feel like doing the same movement, so she can see how ridiculous it looks.
- the people who rest for about 5 minutes between sets.
- the tiny gym bunny with the leg warmers, looking like olivia newton john in "let's get physical".
- the guy who swears he is the '****' with the huge belt for support, but his body is flabby on top and his calves (sp) look like I can touch the tips of my fingers if I placed my hand around it.
- the personal trainers that work there, who look worse than some of the people working out... huge gut, etc.... I know, looking built doesn't mean they know what they're doing, but it sure helps me believe it more.
About the perfume... I guess I don't have a problem with a light scent. I rather that, than body odor or bad breath ::laugh:
About the speedracers on the eliptical... I used to be one of them until I learned what the heart rate zones are and how important it is to stay within them. My HRM helps me now
I've also wondered about the people who wear spandex and short shirts (300 lbs and 5 fet tall). I don't understand if they have the highest self esteem in the world or what. However, it makes me work harder when I see it...:ohwell:
My health insurance covers my gym membership.... I find some of these peeves, entertaining mostly :laugh:0 -
arewethereyet: I hate air fresheners! My husband thinks I'm crazy and will hide them in my car, like I won't smell them! I always smell them, hunt them down and chuck them into the driveway for him to pick up. So annoying!
There are a lot of pet peeves for the gym, but you know what? It's worth it to me. I like being around other people, I like chatting on occasion between sets (so kill me), I like having others to exchange that 'wow that just kicked my a**' look, I like watching other people, it kills time and gives me a good chuckle. I would get bored at home and doing the same video day after day where they say the same thing is more than I can handle.0 -
Leckel..............I ended up with a full blown migraine today, had to call off of work. I THINK my DH will avoid those things in his truck forever now!:glasses:0
-
How about the guy who smells like he smoked about 10 cigarettes in a confined space and then he didn't wash his hands after using the bathroom... Oh... and when he talks, rancid coffee breath. This person literally makes me want to suffocate myself. And he usually pops up right next to me when I'm really in the groove and about halfway thru my cardio session. I want to choke and die. :explode:0
-
I don't notice too many people with perfume in the gym...except in the SWIMMING POOL! I will be doing laps and get a mouth full of someone's deodorant, aftershave, or perfume. So disgusting!0
