What's your opinion on chit chat?

Just curious about people's opinion regarding non-fitness related conversations on MFP? I dont mean in the forums... I am referring more to chit chat with your friends list. Is it an okay/encouraged thing to talk about non fitness/weight related goals with your MFP pals? Or, would you rather people stick to fitness and nutrition related subjects?

All of my friends are there because I enjoy talking with them AND they encourage me. Several of them I consider very good friends even though we have never met in person.

I like the "stream of consciousness" feeds and the cleverness of my friends.

I do wish there was less talk about food on my feed.

Rarely do I actually talk to my friends about fitness etc. We all comment on updates (or try to), but unless I have a specific question, we just talk about life. Keep in mind there are only a handfull of my friends that I communicate with often via PM.

I like a bit of both.

^^ This. Your personal life can dramatically effect your ability to lose weight. So I think it's important to share, sometimes.

I have some friends that only chime in with support or motivation or questions. And some that are mostly snark. I enjoy the hell out of both!

I like both!! I like hearing how their day went, etc!!
  • When I'm in a bad mood 75% Fitness/25% CC. I think 50/50 would be too much since i'm limited on time and use MFP as a tool to get in shape. Interesting question!

I don't talk to any of my friends. They are all as*holes and dont' talk to me because I'm an *kitten**. Oops, misplaced the asterisk.

A good solid mixture works great for me. Many times you can't separate the two as things that occur in life tend to affect how we eat. Some people are emotional eaters, stress eaters, etc. It helps to get it out there when you're having a not-so-good day and let your MFP friends encourage you through it. The same works for the victories. I love reading how my MFP friends have had successes even when it has nothing to do with the scales. Those victories encourage me!

LOL...bring on chit chat...it's boring just to read about exercise and healthy food all day long, and that doesn't tell me what kind of people my friends on here really are. I like getting to know people.

Asking for advice on chit chat is like going up to a random stranger and asking them what's their opinion on your personal life.....I could really care less and I'm gonna give you an answer that makes me laugh.:flowerforyou:

I talk a lot. Usually through PM's though. Not much bothers me either way. I have an awesome ability to ignore.
