Hello
I just joined the group.
Yesterday, I stepped on the scale for the first time in about a year. 394.5 lbs was not what I was expecting at all. I am angry, scared, sad, frustrated and lonely. I have two autistic children a one year old and a husband. I am trying real hard not to have a complete mental break down.....I started counting calories again and I am trying to move as much as I can......

You started! That's the first step. Just keep on going. Each time you put one foot in front of the other you start burning more calories. You don't need a fancy gym membership. Just go for walks to start.

The biggest part of your journey was achieved. You STARTED!!!

Congrats, add me as a friend if you like.

Keep going. Get a food scale too so you can check portion size for the food you are eating. Make every calorie count with healthy foods, you get to eat more. You can do this.

welcome! You will find the strength to succeed... you just made the important first step!
  • We are all behind you! We love you and all know what it is to struggle with weight... I was a member of weight watchers for years and it took me more than two years to lose about 40 lbs. Then I stopped going and gained it all back and more! But now I'm on a diet that I really believe in and the second time around I have more determination. I know persistence and attention to detail works!
You can do it, just remember we are all here for you... You look happy and beautiful in your profile picture and are an incredible woman to have the courage to reach out. Keep in touch!!!

At least your trying to make a change, instead of sitting around being upset! That's always a start. Stay strong & once you start getting healthier things will become much more manageable :)

Most of us have been there...that reality check is no fun. I remember when I first started and was weighed and had my BF taken and learned that my BF was more than 50%....uhhhh yeah more than half of my body was FAT!!! I was devestated!

Like others have said one day/ one pound at a time. This is not a race it's a marathon. GIve yourself credit for EVERY success you have: when you drink a glass of water, when you go for a walk, when you take the steps, when you lose a pound, when you choose salad over fries, when you have grilled instead of fried. You have more control of this situation than you think.

Congrats on setting up an MFP account-that is a first step that many others won't take.
  • Just keep moving. I've started doing exercises while doing the dishes (leg lifts and such)... also found out that it takes coordination to keep my lower body moving and washing dishes with my hands... however, it is considered skilled movement because it takes concentration which is really good for your brain!

Welcome mammaFireBear! It's all about perspective. Each day start fresh and make up your mind that you will make healthy choices. It took me a year to lose what I have lost and I've maintained it for another year after losing! It's all about letting yourself have what you want to eat, but setting limits! I've been on here for over two years now and I do chuckle when someone tells me about this great new website! This has been so valuable to me on my journey! I know it will be the same for you! Feel free to add me if you are looking for support on your journey! FYI: I only keep MFP friends that log in consistently so that I can be motivated and be motivating. If a friend goes MIA, I will do my darnest to reach out to you through messages, but after two months, I do delete!

Admitting you have a problem is the first step in any form of recovery. So welcome! You can do this. Create a support system of people you meet here. Use MFP to learn, to support others, and to gain strength yourself. And really, it is just taking it one day at a time. Because you WILL have crappy days. And you need to commit to stopping the cycle right there and starting back on your fitness lifestyle the very next day if not sooner. You will gain so much happiness when you are physically healthy. Good luck! You CAN DO IT!

Even though seeing a number you didn't want to and weren't expecting to see sucks, there has to come a turning point in your life where you say, "No more!" It looks like that was your day! I know I'm not alone in saying, we will back you 110% and support you! You got this girl... Half the battle is deciding to change. :)

This is the best site ever for weight loss. Keep your chin up. There are sooooo many wonderful success stories here. And if you ever have questions or just need to vent you can post it and get a world of responses. Feel free to add me.
  • Welcome to MFP! Just move forward. 11 months ago, I stepped on a scale and it read 226.8! I'm only 5'2. It is depressing, but it is our choices that put us in these situations. I realized it was time to either get busy living, or get bust dying. If you look for an excuse not to change, well that excuse will always be there. You have to find reasons to change. I started counting calories, and moving... Not any crazy exercise, just walking, and moving more around the house, I don't sit and watch tv, now I do cardio while watching tv. Dancing, jogging in place, jumping jacks, whatever, it doesn't matter what you look like you're at home. In 11 months, I have lost right at 51 pounds. You can change your life, for yourself and for your family. Take it one day at a time, and you will get there. Look forward not backward, you can't change the past, but you can change the furture and improve the now. You CAN do this!
  • At that weight I'd suggest seeing a doctor about the best way to losing weight. You may need to do more than count calories.

I hope that you find yourself successful.
  • Welcome to this WONDERFUL family! MFP has been my saving grace for the last (almost) 3 weeks now. I too cried when I stepped on the scale - I am 5' 6", 32 years old and weighed in at 250 lbs. I know it's completely unbelievable, but as a teen all the way up into my late 20's I dealt with anorexia/bulimia (off & on...more ON than off.) Incredibly, it led me to only gaining weight...as after I stopped cold turkey, my body just gained and gained...quicker than it had ever even lost! So it has led me here...to this remarkable, supportive family - keeping me motivated, strong, and keeping me from resorting to anything "stupid" again. It has helped me so much, and I am sure you will find the same thing out if you stick it out and log in with us every day! Every woman has their good days, their bad days, their happy and sad days.....But that is why we are here amongst friends...When I have a bad day, I'm not afraid to post a status message that says "I am having one suck a** day." LOL! Please add me to your friends list - I'm here every day at least 3 times a day (I'm a complete MFP junkie)....and I will ALWAYS be your pal....I don't care how happy, mad or sad you are....Because I believe in you. :flowerforyou:

Welcome you have made the first step. This is hard and we are all here for the same reason. You will have your good and bad days your ups and downs, but so does everyone else. My advice is to surround yourself with a network of friends to learn from and to ask advice it will get easier just one day at a time.

you've admitted you have a problem, and you are here to make a change. thats more then a lot of other people in the similar situations have done today. take it slow, one day at a time. good luck to you, you'll be great.
  • Feel free to add me as a friend, i have an autistic daughter so i know how stressful things can be at times! You have joined a great site with plenty of people who will support you. Take one day at a time, set yourself small achievable goals and i am sure you will start seeing the lb's drop off. Good luck and take care. x

Welcome to MFP! It is hard to realize how much our choices have hurt us. Don't get too down on yourself though - today you have an opportunity to make changes. Start small, don't expect to change everything all at once. Pick small, gradual changes that you can maintain.

It can be easy to convince yourself that other things are more important than eating right and exercising. With your family situation it sounds like you have your hands SUPER full. But, keep in mind that if you don't start taking care of yourself, you might not be around to take care of anyone else. Not a pleasant thought, but it is reality. So take the time for yourself to do what you need to do to start living a healthier life!

You've done a great thing confronting the issue. Remember that as you lose the weight every single pound counts - it is another pound you have said goodbye to. Good luck on your weight loss. I'm sure you'll do great. :flowerforyou:
