I'll be home for Christmas is a weeper for me. Mostly, though, it's circumstance that makes the song sad. Songs my mom loved, or mattered to my grandparents, or were playing when something horrible happened (any way you want it, for instance, was on the radio as I was going to the hospital after being raped)... It's not the song itself: it's the context.

Yeah you're right the context is what makes these opinions of sad songs, which may not even be obvious sad songs, so personal. I can't listen to certain songs because of things like that.

    Very timely:

I'll Always Love You ... written by Dolly and sung best by Whitney. She hit every note perfectly. RIP.

i have 2 that r tied for first place. they r:
leaving on a jet plane by John Denver and don't wanna miss a thing by Aerosmith.
my 4 yr old cousin died of stomach cancer and when she passed the first song was playing. Then the second song was played at her funeral. Everytime i hear these 2 songs it takes me back :( John Denver was her favourite singer, she had such an old soul and always said things that made u feel like she had been on this earth before.
