I don't really restrict myself all that much. If it was me and I wanted it, I would probably go cut one in quarters and eat my smaller portion.

you did good by only eating a quarter of it. what I do is I try to imagine who made the dessert, and if i can imagine them with dirty hands or little kids that stick their fingers in the mix, etc. then I can gross myself out enough to not take one. I'm crazy, I know.

I completely understand. Today is the 2nd Annual Bake-Off. As soon as I figure out how, I will post a picture of our lunchroom, with a list of what they have.

I think they enjoy taunting me.

    A list:
    Ricotta Cheese Cookies
    Raspberry Bars
    Red Velvet Cupcakes
    Honey Nut Cake Bar
    Gooey Bars
    Sweet Potato Meringue Pie
    Berry Cheesecake
    Triple Chocolate Mousse
    Peach Cobbler
    Chocolate Creme Brulee
    Almond Tres Leche Cake
    Molasses Cake

no reason to restrict yourself completely. Great job only having 1/4 of it! I had a deliciously wonderful caramel bar of some kind that someone brought in for birthdays today. It was wonderful, but will not ruin the rest of my day.

Admit that you want the cupcake, but look at it rationally. Is it worth skipping all the yummy calories you can have later today if you abstain now? Are you the kind of person who could take one, but only eat half and save the rest for tomorrow?

Look at every bite as a decision. Is it worth it? Sometimes it is, but often it just isn't.

  • There is an Angel Food cake with either cream cheese frosting or whipped cream frosting in the break room and I have to walk by it every time I go to the restroom. Which is a lot given the amount of water I have been drinking. So far I have resisted. I am about to make another trip and hopefully there won't be any left.
  • I'm of the thought that if you deprive yourself you will binge later. I'm glad you ate a little. Now I want a cupcake...Thanks

Someone beat me to it! I was going to say that someone probably sneezed on them.

Was it as tasty as it sounds? You know someone else was hoping they could just take half or a quarter but was to chicken to cut it. You did them a favor!

I have people bring crap like that in all the time to the office. Im glad they do, makes it easier to avoid it.

you can have one. or go cut one in half. thats a nice way of treating yourself, but also giving yourself a limit.
  • I agree!

Go with half. If I were closer, I'd gladly share ;-)

I made very similar cupcakes last week (I made mine mini and there were way more than 2 dozen).

I found it very easy to avoid, I did try some of the frosting when I managed to get covered in it but I didn't think it was that good so avoiding them was easy

I always imagine the person who baked them has a bunch of cats that walk around on their counter tops with their nasty little paws that were recently walking in cat litter....

My last employer had carry-ins and stuff all the time like that... What I told myself is that people go and pick up those cupcakes PROBABLY without washing their hands first. Do you want a germy cupcake?!

Be strong, that cupcake won't do anything for your waistline either and once it's gone are you REALLY going to be THAT satisfied?
  • UGH.... I have a horrible sweet tooth. I try to decide if it's really worth it. LIke a brownie or choc. chip cookie then I go for it. but like white cake... eh, i can take it or leave it. Then I work it in to my calories for the day. It can be so hard sometimes! Keep up the good fight!

lmao...where were you last week when someone brought in a strawberry cake!!???? I am totally using this technique with every food I eat from here on out!!!!

Yeah, when it's a once in a while thing I just have it and figure out a way to make it fit. I'm baking cupcakes tonight and I'm going to eat one and I'm not feeling bad about it. This weekend I'm baking my best friend's baby shower cake and then I'll indulge in some of that too, and I'll exercise and fit it in. Than I won't have cake again for 6 - 8 weeks (probably more, can't imagine why I'll need to have cake within the next 2 months). I'm not person that says "no, I can never eat another one of those ever again" it just makes me want it more. But if I say, "moderation is key" I feel better because I know it's okay to say no now so I can say yes later, or okay to say yes now as long as I know that it's going to be good enough to say no later.
  • An Au Bon Pain Red Velvet Cupcake is 350 calories so 1/4 of that is not bad at all!

when I don't want to eat something sweet tempting to me I pretend the person who made it didn't realize her flour (whatever) had worms in it....works everytime.
