Unforeseen Problems Relating to Water Consumption

I've been told I don't drink enough water. I recently decided to make a real effort to drink more water every day.
However, there is a very confusing thing happening to me when I do this....
Every time I drink a bunch of water, I have to run to the restroom within the hour.
That means I am LOSING the water I just drank!!!

Has this happened to anyone else?

If so, what have you done to prevent this from interfering with your water intake?

How do I properly log my water on MFP if I am losing some of what I take in???

Maybe I should seek medical attention. This just doesn't seem right to me.

i have been drinking a lot of water (72-86oz a day) for the last few years (medication gives me dry mouth) andi used to have to pee all day. but that went away slowly, now i only go every few hours and only once at night (huge improvement) i think it just takes time to get used to that much liquid..

i am no expert tho, its just what i've found happening to me...

i've also heard of people training their bladders, i have no idea how to do this, but maybe google that.. it might help :)

Does the HCG diet count as pregnant?

Could that be causing my issue?

I just hold it all until the next day when I know I'll be getting more water.
  • I have that same problem. The more I drink the more I pee but I think that it is flushing out toxins. I have heard that this will eventually go away. Except for me I am thinking not. I did get diagnosed years ago with an overactive bladder and was on meds for it. Then I lost my job and insurance and couldn't refill my prescription any more. Since I got insurance again, I just don't want to go through all the testing to get the meds again. So I just deal with always feeling like I have to pee, even when I just went. Just keep drinking. :drinker:

I'm not positive, but I think that begging and fetching are a different issue altogether.

Also, you have my sincerest condolences on the fact that you even have to consider begging and fetching.

This EXACT thing happened to me when I started drinking more water. What is going on is your body is absorbing the water you drink while pushing out excess. So you're going to feel like you're peeing out more than you're drinking in. But you'll flush any retained water out of your system, since you're replenishing much faster now. It's a good thing! Keep it up!

If you start to feel faint, or your blood pressure drops, seek medical attention, as this may be due to flushing too many electrolytes out. But it's not likely if you're sticking to 64 ounces a day, or even more than that (up to 1/2 your body weight in pounds as ounces of water). It's several gallons a day to really put you in danger.

    Love your picture, BTW.

So, if I can train my bladder to hold it, will I have to install a pressure valve?

I do not want to visit the ER with a ruptured bladder, again.

Ok, lets assume your pregnant. I'll make a deal.
I'll start to drink your laden HGC pee. You can drink my clean filtered not pregnant pee, then its a net loss of 0, no matter how must you loose.

How about you pee in bottle and then drink it. That way what comes out goes back in and you're not losing all that valuable water!!

HA! The Free version of the HGC diet. I love it.

And a pressure valve might be something to look into - think of the fun you could have getting out of class with that one!

I took a test and I'm not officially prego. *happy dance*

On the flip side of the happy dance, shouldn't my test have at least shown SOME kind of signs of the HCG hormone? I will be very upset if I'm getting cheated.... Maybe I shouldn't buy the discounted version that I got from the dairy farmer, down the street. I'll have to look into this.

Thank you anyway for the offer of filtered pee.

Mel, you're a GENIUS! I didn't even take that into consideration. Thanks for pointing that out to me :)

Remember that thread where someone said that you pee out your fat? Maybe that's what's happening!
  • Once your body gets used to a larger intake of water you will stop having to run to the loo all the time.
