I think for every now and again, that's fine. But breakfast is such an important meal... like the most important meal, that you want it to be as well balanced and natural as possible.
I am with you on the hating breakfast thing... at least I know how you feel. When I started this journey, eating breakfast felt like pulling teeth. Yuck. But I kept experimenting with different foods until I finally found the right combination. I have half of a piece of fruit with a cup of plain yogurt and 50g of a fruit-nut muesli that makes on oh-so-good and balanced meal at 320 cals. It's got fiber, protein, natural sugars, dairy, and healthful bacteria that gets my day to an awesome start. On the days that I don't have breakfast now, I can totally tell.
Hope this helps. :flowerforyou: Give it time. Getting used to eating a healthful breakfast is like getting used to any other good habit, it takes time. But just like training your body to crave water, exercise, or vegetables, it'll be so worth it in the long run.
Cheers!:flowerforyou:0 -
I wish I could help you out...but I HATE to eat breakfast too...even those shakes. Idk... I usually go without..but Im starving by 11am. Anyone have ideas for me as well? I have to get myself and 4 kids ready in the morning...very limited on time...like grab and go. Thanks0

from the carnation website
a whole lot of crap to start your day...knock yourself out
INGREDIENTS: SUGAR, NONFAT MILK, MALTED MILK (CONTAINS WHEAT FLOUR AND MALTED BARLEY EXTRACTS), MALTODEXTRIN, COCOA PROCESSED WITH ALKALI, AND LESS THAN 2% OF DICALCIUM PHOSPHATE, CARRAGEENAN, SODIUM ALUMINOSILICATE, SOY LECITHIN, SALT, MAGNESIUM HYDROXIDE, SODIUM ASCORBATE (VITAMIN C), VITAMIN E ACETATE, VITAMIN A PALMITATE, NIACINAMIDE, FERRIC ORTHOPHOSPHATE (IRON), ZINC OXIDE, CALCIUM PANTOTHENATE (PANTOTHENIC ACID), COPPER GLUCONATE, MANGANESE SULFATE, PYRIDOXINE HYDROCHLORIDE (VITAMIN B6), THIAMIN MONONITRATE, PHYLLOQUINONE (VITAMIN K), BIOTIN, FOLIC ACID, VITAMIN B12, ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR0 -
Quaker Oats breakfast cookies, i like the oatmeal and raisin. I hate eating breakfast too but these contain fiber and it's like eating a desert for breakfast. Warm them for 10 seconds in microwave, mmmmmmmmm. 170 calories, and easy to eat on my way to work.0
-
I am so with you on hating breakfast and UNFORTUNATELY, I am starting this activity in my five year old boy, too. BAD.
Studies show that people that are overweight DO NOT eat breakfast. Yet another thing that has to be drilled into my head. Teach an old dog new tricks...yeah, right.
I am really really trying to change this. I forget to eat until 2pm sometimes and I know that is what is stalling my weight loss. :grumble: I eat all of my food between 2-7pm NOT GOOD.
This is what I do, I get sugar free whey EAS from Sam's club and then I use 8oz of no sugar added Almond milk..Almond Breeze. It's a total of 170 calories and 3.5 grams of fat and 4 carbs. Much like two eggs. I drink this before I leave the house to work out. That Almond Breeze has like 40 calories or something in it and mixing whey (protein shakes) with water is just repulsive.
Maybe that will help.
Good luck.0 -

Make yourself a breakfast shake. It doesn't take long to blend some fruit with juice, milk, and you can even toss a scoop of protein powder in there (soy and whey are the biggies).
It's a great way to start the day and wont take long to make. It's also cheap, especially if you go with part frozen fruit (some kind of berry) and part fresh fruit (like banana). A small pound of protein powder can last a month for about $10 ... they also come in lots of yummy flavors.0 -

i have never been much of a breakfast eater, but lately I have been eating some yogurt, an apple, and a slice of whole wheat toast with a bit of peanut butter on it. It is a nice mix of nutrients, calories, and flavors, and pretty filling.0

more good advice:flowerforyou:
no need to overanalyze this
just eat something simple but clean and the day gets off to a better start0 -
I'm a sucker for a simple bowl of cereal with milk. A banana goes well with it if I'm still hungry.0
-
if you need a grab and go kind of thing maybe a luna bar or some simular thing would be easy0

I just hate eating in the morning, but I will drink something, if there is something. And right now I dont really have the set up to make a shake in the morning. I need something that I can grab, ready to eat (or drink)0 -

Im not a morning eater but I do eat breakfast every single morning- I can't eat as soon as I wake up though--
But on Mondays-Friday when I am at work
I get up at 6am (no I don't eat that early) I do all my running around of getting me and the kids dressed and out of the house then after I drop them off at the before school program I go to work and get settled at work and by around 8:30-9am I eat my breakfast at my desk-
Now my breakfast consists of Original Oatmeal with eggs or Original Oatmeal with a protein shake then I eat 2-2.5 hours later a small snack-
Before my new meal plan I was eating a bowl of cereal Raisin Bran and skim milk which held me over until lunch0 -

Protein shakes are super simple and if you don't have the minute to make them then make them the night before all it takes is 8oz of water with a scoop of protein powder and a shaker cup super easy no fuss and for more protein you can put a scoop of Natural Peanut Butter in it too--0 -
I bought those small yogurt drinks. I drink em like a shot and it is over with before I know it! Gets the furnace burning!!

I hated eating breakfast when i started this journey last year, but after a lot of hard work in forcing myself to eat it, i know find that i can't function without. I do have a problem where i can't stand to smell food in the morning or it makes me sick to my stomach so i eat Raisin bran with a banana or strawberries. Doesn't really have smell too it and is pretty good.
Start off small, with a piece of fruit and work your way up to bigger and better things. It took me several months to work up, but it is worth it.0 -
on the run, sometimes, i just have a kids clif bar - chocolate brownie - especially if I have a 9am, 4 hour long class i can't stand :laugh:0

Actually I LOVE yogurt! lol
Those yogurt drinks sound like a good idea. I think I'll try to pick something like that up.
Thanks for the tips!
And on days I do actually make something to eat or breakfast, I have fried egg whites, usually on toast. I hate the yolk, so Im glad thats the fatty part! lol0 -
  I was thinking the same thing. Yer hard to please, missy!Ok, so Hailey, do you hate breakfast food, or just eating in the morning?

Sounds like yogurt it is. Also, since breakfast is an important meal, and we who are trying to lose weight would be wise to fuel up in the morning as opposed to at night, I would maybe work on establishing a new "I love breakfast" habit.
Just saying. :happy:0 -
since you like yogurt, how about a yogurt parfait? use any flavour, add some crunchy whole grain cereal and some fresh fruit or berries. Tastes delish and you get a lot of great nutrients, fibre, protein and carbs to start your day off right :flowerforyou:0

I hate breakfast too...
My nutritionist told me you have to intake 2-3 net carbs within 30-45 minutes of waking up to start your metabolism and get it out of night time "starvation" mode.
2-3 net carbs = 30-45 carb grams. If you find ones high in fiber (6 or more grams of fiber) you will feel full much longer and won't impulse eat from hunger.
I have been trying to fit in 35 grams of fiber a day to
#1 fend off our family curse.... colon cancer
#2 help to not over-eat
#3 to help IBS
Amazingly I feel fantastic when I take in a lot of fiber.... even if it has to come from a supplement sometimes.
I like to have a slice of toast with Tomato Basil Hummus and sometimes a piece of string cheese and a large glass of water with crystal light energy (wild strawberry) so I get a little caffeine to start my day (I am still trying to ween myself from pop to straight up water).
I hope you find an answer to your breakfast dilemma because you can burn so many more calories and boost your metabolism.0 -
Nice ideas...but...I get up at 6 or 630am (NOT a morning person)..and by the time I get a shower, take my sister to school, get the kids up (THREE kids) and get them breakfast, get them dressed and teeth brushed (with is usually a fight in itself) then get them out the door by 7:55a, I have to finish my make-up and hair and leave at 8:15a. (which usually turns into 8:25 and then the fourth child wakes and doesnt want me to leave) Im just about late (work at 8:30). No time for food and I work at a doc office...no food at my desk. BLAH! I dont get lunch til 12:15-12:30p. HELP! How do I get myself the fuel I need and find the time? (without stinkin' protein shakes..eww)0
-
well thanks for all the tips guys! Its going to be hard to eat in the morning at not at night! its the oposite of when I'm hungry.
