over eating - 'make it up' or move on?

Hi, just wondering if when you over eat, is it better for you to try to make up for that over the week (ie eating at an extra deficit), or to simply let it go?

I'm trying to lose fat rather than necessarily lose weight as I'm technically in a healthy weight range and have my daily intake set at 1250 plus all my calories earned from exercise. (Between 100-350 a day). But I struggle with over eating (out of boredom/cravings/over enjoyment of food rather than hunger) and often go over. Eg yesterday I ate 600 calories more than I was supposed to (damn that coconut rice!). So should I just let this go or try to eat less over the next few days to make up for it (and ignore the starvation mode warning)?

If you're at 1250 calories plus your exercise calories you could easily cut down 100 cal for the next 6 days without worrying about starvation mode (or a little extra exercise each day). I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it unless it becomes a regular occurrence.

You're 21... that extra 600 probably put you right at the calories you should have been eating. Don't worry about it, just move on. :o)

Agree with Canada. Just move on. Consider it as your cheat day.

Just move on. I have days when I am that much over, and it didn't change my weight.

It's up to you. All of the posters here have given great advice. I think you would be fine doing whatever you want to.

I know 600 calories by itself won't change anything but this is more of a general question for long-term habits. Btw according to online tests my BMR is 1650, but if I eat that and don't exercise I put on weight.

Yes but that's assuming I am good for all of the rest of the week haha. Which I probably won't be...my self control IS getting better but it's a slow progress.

ETA wow posts come fast here. Ok so general consensus seems to be move on, maybe I will say have one move on/cheat day per week and anything else try to make up. Otherwise I think it's too easy to never change bad habits.
