Best blender for smoothies?

My el cheapo Hamilton Beach works fine and I've found it's more technique than anything else. What I've found works the best -
Get the protein powder, liquid and any non-ice (read as frozen fruits) blended. Add the ice SLOWLY, wait until what you've added is thoroughly chopped before adding more. It helps if you get crushed ice out of the ice maker, but that's not entirely necessary. One or two cubes at a time works fine and BE PATIENT. If you over load with too much ice at one time it will over-thicken and not circulate right.
Experiment a little bit before you go dropping any money on a new blender. You may find what you have works fine, you just need to alter how you do it, not what you use.0 -

I've had many blenders over the years, including Cuisinart (leaves pieces of food and ice), Ninja (leaves pieces of leaf veggies like spinach and kale), Blendec (was ok, but started smoking after 2 weeks when I tried to make hummus, so it went back). And then I got the Vitamix - hands down the best thing out there. Granted, the $500 price tag is hard to swallow. But, 7 year all inclusive warranty, including the shipping if you have to return something, not to mention all that it can handle, was worth it to me.
The Vitamix obliterates everything. I throw whole flax seeds and whole raw almonds in with my fruit/vegs, and you can't even find a speck of brown when it's done. Amazing.
For something less expensive for smoothies only, I have heard that the Nutribullet is really good. Bed Bath and Beyond has it for $100 - using the 20% off coupon brings it down to $80. They have an awesome return policy, so you can try it out and see if you like it.0 -
I have a cuisinart immersion blended...works ok for smoothies...but I just bought a Ninjas Pro....and love it! It comes with a smallish workbowl, and three smoothie cups for about $80. Good deal.0

Another vote for the Ninja! I had a Blendtec and sent it back. It really was no improvement for smoothies over the Ninja for a fraction of the price. I used a magic bullet for years but I think the Ninja is better. I use the smallest container for smoothies and it's perfect for a 16 oz glass.0

i own a vitamix. it is the most amazing thing ive ever purchased.0

what is the best blender for crushing ice for smoothies? I am trying to make a chocolate protein smoothie with cocoa powder and peanut butter that my old gym made. I bought a Ninja professional blender that is supposed to make "snow" from ice but it doesn't live up to the promise because it leaves chunks and doesn't blend well.
Also, try PB2 instead of regular peanut butter and it wont be so thick but tastes just as great!(if not better!!!)0 -
vitamix is the best and you can use it for so many things. I love mine0

I own the Ninja and love it. I got the one with the large blending glass pitcher and the two individual blending cups with lids to drink from. It has interchangeable paddles one to whip with and one for dough. I love that it has three levels of blades so it pulverizes everything in it. I put fruit with the skin on in it and you would never know it it's so smooth in the end. I had an old oster that I only paid about 30 bucks for and you couldn't mix anything with that…complete waste of money!!1

Love my Ninja, easy to clean up. Has a good chopper or a pitcher to make a smoothies. Best of all it was affordable.0

Big fan of a "regular" ol' blender that the blades screw off of the pitcher base and right onto a mason jar... custom "magic bullet" features do-able for a long time. As long as the lid of a regular mason jar will screw on the base of the pitcher the blades should also screw onto the mason jar... a dozen "custom" beverages in short order as you blend right in the container you could drink out of.. get some jars with the handle if you want 'em. But the more powerful motor in a "real" blender base holds up to much more than the bullet does.
Easy clean, great for spices etc, just use a smaller jar to do spices.. larger jar for bigger drink combos etc. mason jars come in lots of sizes you can find one to suit what you're trying to blend.1 -
The Vitamix was the best kitchen appliance investment I've EVER made.0

I use my Blendtec every single day, and it does well when adding ice to the mix. I've never tried ice alone.
They have them for $379 at Costco with an eight year warranty. It was spendy for sure, but that only motivated me make sure I got my money's-worth.
On youtube there seems to be a PC vs Mac sort of battle between the Blendtec and the Vitamix. Hey, any $400 blender would have to do the job very well or they wouldn't be so popular.
One thing I like about the Blendtec is that the base is pre-programmed to run for different types of mixes, so I press the Whole Juice button and then clean up my containers while it runs. Here's a video I made of me doing just that:

Wow, I recorded that before I joined MyFitnessPal and started eating right all-around. I can't believe how much thinner I look now after just 6 weeks. Heh heh, cool.1 -
Another vote for vitamix

My new Blentec is about one month old, has 91 cycles on it, and is used for smoothies, nut butters, making flour, and soups. I bought it because it will fit under my counters where a Vitamix will not (Vitamix too tall or counters too low).
I would not trade away my Blendtec with Wildside jar unless I had another one waiting for me. Absolutely satisfied.0 -

Or you could get a vitamix and make your own yummy peanut butter without all the additives.0 -

Vitamix IMO is a higher quality product with a warranty to back it up (mine has 8 years but even if the jar were to break outside of the warranty, Vitamix will still replace it!). Great customer service too.
It is made in the USA and not in China, there are people who have had a Vitamix for 20 + years and still works like the first day, I have had mine for 5 years now. I use it everyday sometimes twice a day. You can have a shake in 30 seconds, healthy icecream in a few minutes, hot soups in under 5 minutes. I also make peanut butter with mine and I just discovered that it is great for making whipped cream. It is the best kitchen investment I have made.1 -
Just got an Optimum 9900 blender, sold in Australia by Froothie, and in my opinion the best blender out there. The speed and power is almost double most other blenders, and from experience I am very satisfied and would highly recommend it. I use it to make pretty much everything. Not sure if it's being sol in the States but worth looking at as well
Vitamix and Blendtec are my my other favourite brands. My Top 3
1. Vitamix and Optimum
2. Blendtec
3. Hamilton Beach0
