Just wondering if anyone else drinks (anything) while on MFP? I have 1 or 2 glasses of wine and I don't mind adding it to my calorie count. I enjoy a nice glass of wine with my dinner. :-)

Hey there I too enjoy a drink with a meal or whilst out socialising. I have tried to cut out beer completely and now will enjoy a glass of wine or will have a spirit with a sugar free mixer.

My golden rule is simple and that is to add the calories I am consuming through the alcohol.

I don't see the need to cut alcohol out completely. Just my opinion though

Oh yes I do -- I could not give up my wine or a cocktail here and there. I just try to make better calorie choices -- no fruity drinks or iced blended drinks. I do count my calories on them so they are counted on my days calories. I also find that I don't drink as much when I do wine. I alternate between red and white, and I always order water with it so I get my water too.

I think dry white wine has the lowest calories. I'm trying to have only two glasses a week (usually on Saturday night) as long as its within the calories!!

There have been a number of recent studies touting the benefits of a glass of red wine. I was drinking on average a glass of wine or beer almost nightly before MFP. Been drinking less just because I'm cutting back on anything that isn't water, except for milk on my cereal. And most days I don't want to waste the calories on it. But going out with the boys from the neighborhood tonight. If anyone wants a laugh, check out my food diary tomorrow for lots of alcohol. LOL

I did that before as well only drink one or two beverages on the weekend but it did not matter. I even stopped having any for like a month it did not matter. I have done W.W. before and I lost adding my wine as points. So I say Wine please. LOl :)

I say whatever makes you feel good then there is no wrong,

I usually have 1/2 a bottle every evening with dinner, and more on the weekends. I also drink beer on occasion and liquor rarely.

Oh yes! I dont tend to have any Monday - Thursday (while Im trying to loose at least!) but I do at weekends.
Too much probably sometimes but still try and count and make sensible food choices to allow it.
So far its been working for me to be a little under my calories on week days and a bit over on weekends, as long as my weekly intake has been on target.
Ive got an open diary, so feel free to add me.

I have a glass of wine, a beer or two, and I log whatever I drink. I haven't stopped living, just watching overall intake, protein/carb/fat balance, and making sure I exercise.
  • Since I am just starting out I want to be pretty strict in order to see the maximum results to keep me motivated but I let myself have 1 glass of red wine and 1 piece of dark chocolate a week. I usually do wine on Fridays to relax and chocolate in the middle of the crazy week. It makes it so enjoyable and I feel like I have control!

Since traveling to Belgium and Holland last year and seeing just how much our low-country brothers and sisters enjoy their leisure time and their UNBELIEVABLE chocolate, I try not to back down from those little pleasures. They do take their toll when counting, sure...but good dark chocoloate is SO worth it. :)

Every Friday evening without fail my girlfriend and I share a bottle of red wine.

Basically, she drinks a glass and I drink the rest.

I put in my diary every Friday and then I work my butt off to pay for it.

    Cheers! :drinker:

Do I drink? Well, it's Friday evening at long last after a fairly tough week so I will most certainly be having a "few" glasses tonight! Like other people have mentioned, I'll try to make sensible choices and keep close to my daily aim but I'm not going to stress lots about it. Will simply work that bit harder in the gym tomorrow ;)

    Have weekends all

I still drink wine. I have read about alcohol slowing down your metabolism though. http://www.livestrong.com/article/411026-does-alcohol-slow-metabolism/ . I try to say no to drinking during the week. On weekends I just make sure to log what I drink. This is supposed to be a lifestyle change ..not a diet. To me that means making changes that I will and can live with. I don't know that I can live without wine haha!
  • I like my wine  also and agree I have no problem adding it! Glad I'm not the only one!

Lifestyle I can live with forever...that has to include some wine! I have a glass a couple nights a week, so relaxing after one of those crazy days!

I love wine, but rarely drink any because I don't want the empty calories at this point.
  • Happy to continue to have wine or Gin 7 slimline tonic, I always add the calories into my daily count!!!
I really enjoy it and although I am progressing with this healthier lifestyle, I am still going to keep the alcohol as part of it!!!

Ohhh wine- It took every ounce of strength in me to not go out and buy a bottle this week! I will reward myself with a glass or two maybe every other week. Which is tough, because I would usually have 2-3 glasses about 3 nights a week

Like a fish!!! It's the only thing I can tell that is hindering my weight loss, other than my age maybe? I recently read that if you ARE going to drink, don't eat much fat that day. Stick with protein and vegetables and it helps to metabolize the alcohol. If your body has fat in it to metabolize, it of course will process the alcohol first, but then slows down even more to process the fat. The science of it made sense I suppose. Interesting reading.

I have a couple glasses of wine about once a week. Occasionally I'll have a beer, although I try to limit those more than I do wine. No diet is successful if you can't maintain it, like previous posters have said it needs to be a lifestyle, and I like a drink sometimes.
  • I tried to cut out alcohol entirely but my job, being a music manager, is all about smoozing. So it was kind of a hard thing to do, plus, I really enjoy a glass or wine with dinner and a cocktail now and again. I, like others, have just shaved off calories elsewhere so I can have my wine and drink it too. So to speak. :)

Yes! about every other night I'll share a bottle with my husband. I log it and it's worth every calorie :) I can't wait to try Bethanny Frankel's new skinnygirl line of red and white wines that are coming out. I also like a skinnygirl margarita on occasion too ;)

Light beer (Michelob Ultra is my fave), wine (Moscato), and vodka mixed with any flavor of Ocean Spray. Yay, yay, yay :drinker:

She also has a white cranberry cosmo, a white sangria. Have you tried either of those?
