Do you love ranch dressing?

I finally started using MFP regularly this week. I discovered that I was consuming HUNDREDS of calories due to ranch dressing alone! Even still... the thought of giving it up completely totally bummed me out. But then I found this by doing some Google research:
Just get the Hidden Valley ranch powder packet (70 calories in the whole thing) and mix it with a container of Daisy Light sour cream. It's delicious!
The best part? Only 50 calories in 2 tablespoons
Hope this helps you guys!

I am addicted to Ranch....only HIdden Valley. Does this taste just like the original Hidden Valley Ranch? I would so use it if it was even close! It's the one thing I just refuse to give up, but hate how high in calories it is!0
-
Oh my gosh. Gotta try it.0
-
You can also mix it with plain yogurt - same taste, fewer calories!0

The taste is distinctively Hidden Valley, so long as you can get used to the creaminess of the sour cream! I use it on sandwiches or as a dip for veggie pizza.
It's definitely worth trying! I don't think you'll be disappointed0 -
I didn't even think about yogurt!!! What a fantastic idea. I'm going to try that next, thank you!!0

Yummy....love this idea~ thanks!!!0

another idea for you with a ranch packet...My family loves ranch flavor so I add 1/2 pack to 1lb ground turkey and it adds all the flavor of ranch without the added calories! tastes great in a wrap!! yummmy!0

if you use ranch on your salads, get the dressing packets and follow the directions to ake it as a dressing. it lasts for a couple weeks and is really delicious.0

My friend told me mixing ranch seasoning into greek yogurt makes a great veggie dip. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm inclined to believe it...0

It's soooo good.0 -
If I make it at home I do healthier alternatives but when we go out (not often) I just go for the real thing. I had 4 TBS yesterday @ 257 calories and it was worth all 257 of them.0

For dressing, I use the Hidden Valley Ranch packet, 1 cup skim milk, and 1 cup plain (or even vanilla) greek yogurt. I keep it in one of those plastic squeeze bottles like they have at Subway. With the squeeze bottle you can evenly distribute it across your salad/veggie wrap and easily control the amount used.0

I have the same problem! Thanks for the idea!!0

I'm wondering if I would like it with the yogurt because I hate yogurt. But can you really taste it after adding the ranch packet?0
-
I hate ranch dressing but I have heard of putting the seasonings into non-fat, drained greek yogurt instead of sour cream. Maybe it has fewer calories or is creamier? I don't know. Glad you found an alternative for yourself though. Good planning!0

I do this too! Only, I use fat free sour cream, it does taste different but still satisfies my craving for ranch. The light sour cream does taste like the original though!

Thank you so much for sharing. :drinker:0

My friend is going to try to add some of the powder to cottage cheese too!! That might be yummy for a dip!0

I use the HVR "buttermilk" pack, mixed with fat free butter milk and greek yogurt!! Yummo!0
-
I tried using it in yogurt and while it is healthier and it does the trick, it tastes so much better to me in the sour cream for some reason.0

Walden Farms Ranch 0 calories. Havent tried it but love the 0 calorie blue cheese.0

omg yes. I used to eat ranch with everything... Pizza, fries, cheeseburgers, bread, you name it. I still eat it a lot with chicken and such. I just buy light and try to not drench my food in it. But I LOVE ranch! mmm0

I'm also a ranch lover, and I now only buy Bolthouse Farms Classic Ranch Yogurt Dressing.
I find it to be even more wonderful than Hidden Valley-- nicer texture and more flavor!!

They only difference between using sour cream vs. yogurt is the texture. The sour cream mix is a little creamier, but other than that there isn't any difference.0

I do half light sour cream and half light mayo + the ranch dip mix. I actually have a different brand my mom got somewhere (not Hidden Valley) but I've got a whole jar of the ranch powder and I only use 1-2 teaspoons of it for 2 cups of dip. I use it as dressing too, so good!0

Bolthouse Farms makes a yogurt ranch dressing that tastes very similar to HVR. I use nothing else, cuz it's YUMMY!!0

I know a ranch dressing that only has 15 CALORIES per 2 TABLESPOONS!
12 oz (1 package) silken-firm or lite silken-firm tofu (such as Mori-Nu)
3/4 tsp each garlic powder and onion powder
1 tsp dry dill
1/3 cup water, or more or less depending on desired thickness (I use 100g)
scant 2T apple-cider vinegar
1 and 1/2 vegetable broth cubes (I use Rapunzel brand. You can use more or less, depending on desired saltiness.)
2 T low-fat Veganaise (or regular) (If you leave this out, you’ll still have a nice dressing, but it won’t be nearly as yummy!)
Combine all ingredients, and blend until creamy. (I use a Magic Bullet.)0 -
Mix it with Fage Greek Yogurt instead. WAYYYYY more protein than sour cream.0

Great idea about the squeeze bottle. Hadn't thought about that. I love my Fage yogurt. Protein Power!!0 -
