Why do people start a sentence with 'So'?

Your example is well taken though. And some people think starting a sentence with 'and' is wrong.0 -
Fair enough. I used the New American Standard because it seems to love starting sentences with "so." Obviously any English version is going to be a translation. My point was that starting a sentence with "so" is not inherently incorrect or even informal.0

There is no rule against it really...
I have a tendency to use 'So' when speaking casually with my friends...same with 'anyways'... I hate when I do that though...lol0 -

Reminds me of how people make fun of us Californians for saying "like," like, all the time. I guess it doesn't make sense but personally I can't go more than a paragraph without using the word in a way that has nothing to do with comparisons.0
