Why do people start a sentence with 'So'?

And Jehovah God causeth ...
yea, he casteth out the man ...
And it cometh to pass at the end of days ...

Your example is well taken though. And some people think starting a sentence with 'and' is wrong.

Fair enough. I used the New American Standard because it seems to love starting sentences with "so." Obviously any English version is going to be a translation. My point was that starting a sentence with "so" is not inherently incorrect or even informal.

There is no rule against it really...

I have a tendency to use 'So' when speaking casually with my friends...same with 'anyways'... I hate when I do that though...lol

Reminds me of how people make fun of us Californians for saying "like," like, all the time. I guess it doesn't make sense but personally I can't go more than a paragraph without using the word in a way that has nothing to do with comparisons.
