    In the UK mcdonalds fries are vegan! The hashbrowns are vegetarian here too.

    But the safe option is porridge!

    I just did a quick search and apparently they are vegetarian-friendly in Canada too. I remember a news story a few years ago (because ours used to be fried in the beef fat as well), where a cashier mis-led a Hindu, and he became understandably furious that he consumed beef when he was told they were not cooked in it. Since then, I'm pretty sure, they've been vegetarian.

    From my understanding, they are not cooked in beef fat oil, but they are basted in beef fat in production and come that way in the frozen bags. So he was probably told correctly, that they are cooked in the restaurant in vegetable oil, but the poor employee did not know that they had beef fat. I had a vegetarian friend who worked there and she didn't know.
