ARE YOU FOOD POSSESSIVE?

Ever since I started with MFP(about 2 yrs ago) and really gotten into my nutrition routine I am super possessive over the food on my plate.I measure/weigh everything I eat so when someone wants a taste I am very hesitant or I just flat say "NO". But I think it has gotten a little out of control......
Ok, so my sister was over the other day and I had pre-weighed out my chicken for my lunch... she walks up "oh that looks good" and takes a piece... I was so quick to respond I even caught myself off guard LOL I responded in a sharp tone " Don't take my food.. I measure that out!" being my sister she just laughed .. and I was quick to apologize for my sharp tone.
but I have now realized I do this quite often.. even with my children. LMAO.. (I'm not mean to my kids..but I may groan a little when they ask) If my kids want a taste of a treat I have and it takes everything in me to share LOL.
Anyone else do this...or am I just a freak :-)

No matter how carefully you measure and weigh, the underlying nutritional data is only required to be accurate within +/-20% (according to US FDA regulations). Unless someone is taking 1/5 of your portion, you're still within the margin of error.0

I know that.. but its the principle of the matter.. every last nibble is very precious to me LOL0 -
Same, I hate it when people want my food, it's obviously on my plate because I want it for myself.0

I've always been super possessive of food, and it never had anything to do with the diet. It's on my plate, yo!0

Oh thats another thing.. I fill my water bottle and I keep track of how much water I take in.. so if my hubby or kids want a sip I'm like "hey get your own bottle, I need to keep track"... LMAO ..0 -
I hate it when people take my food, if I offer...then ok. But DO NOT help yourself to my s***. It amazes me how many people think its ok to stick their fork, spoon, fingers into someone elses food.0

I'm like a ravenous beast while eating. Most people just steer clear.0

I have to be otherwise my room mates would steal all my food from the fridge :mad:0

Freak!!! Just kidding. It is important because you are running a high octane machine (you) and you really have to watch closely what you put in it.0

I've always been possessive over my food. I have no idea why, I just never learned to share. Yes, it's a bit worse now, but I've always always been like that. I would rather buy someone their own food than share mine. I'm weird.0

I'm guilty of food possessiveness, just ask anyone in my family, its a running joke!0

I'm not sure what your intake is, but I find that I get that way when I am eating far too little. It seems like you're getting into the realm of disordered thinking and I'd be careful. If you can, try to be a little less rigid. You can have a range that you're comfortable with. Calories in/Calories out isn't absolutely precise in terms of your body's metabolism.
ETA: Or wait... You just want it because it's delicious? Cause that seems totally normal to me!0 -
Yes I am and its so hard to beleive
I am constantly watching my portions, I had some frozen yogurt today and I told the server not to fill it up
I honestly can't beleive myself :-)0 -
Lol, I'm exactly the same!0
-
YES I AM!!! It makes me feel mean.0

I'm the eldest of 10 kids; you bet your *kitten* I'm food possessive!! lol
Anyone from a big family knows that if you don't eat something now (or hide it REALLY well...sometimes under lock and key), it won't be there later.
Same thing with food on my plate when I'm in "cutting" mode. If it's on my plate, I can eat it, and if you eat it, that's less for me...and that doesn't make me too happy! lol0 -
I am. But I was like this before MFP. I just really like food.0

Just the other day I counted out my tortilla chips and my husband came by and took one and I yelled at him! I then got another chip out of the bag!0

I am very possessive. My food! Health food is already expensive enough without everyone eating it on me!0
-
Yes I am! In fact I take it a step futher and have to be careful if I'm sharing a meal (like pizza or something) with people who eat more than I am supposed to because I unconciously try to keep up with them!
It's funny if everybody's food is on their own plate I'm always the last one eating because I'm so slow but if we're sharing a box of pizza it's like my body wants me to keep up like it's afraid i'm not gonna get my share or something! I have to think about eating at my normal pace and not racing them to the next piece!0 -
Right now I'm only eating close to 1230 calories a day so every bite is precious. Plus it's gross when people stick their germy fork into your food! Yesterday one of my co-workers took part of my pickle without asking me & I got pissed. I was like why didn't you order your own pickle? Then she said "you're on a diet and there's too much sodium in that pickle". I was mad! She is always wanting to taste everyone's food. Plus she always says snotty stuff like"Oh I don't care for that" after she insists on tasting the food. It's rude! Ok I'm done venting now!0
-
Yes, but I always have been. Being a vegetarian, I often find eating out with friends that they all order meat, I order veggie, then they want to eat half of mine, but I can't taste theirs. I am resigned to the fact that when I am out in company, I'll go hungry, but it does make me very possessive of my food. I really want to point out to people that they are being incredibly thoughtless.0
-
Yes. But I try to be nice about it. I'll offer to go get some of whatever it is for that person, explaining, I measured this all out already...let me go get you some Then I don't feel like I'm being greedy :ohwell:
What grinds my gears is when I buy something specially for me, and then hubby eats it all up. I will buy more! I'll buy enough for us all! But don't eat up all my special stuff and leave me with only the stuff I don't want to eat! That's not nice.0 -

I honestly don't measure or weigh my food as religiously as a lot of people, but I like to eat, so I don't want anyone to take my food!0
