    You are wrong.. just because you may weigh more doesn't mean you necessarily have more to lose, so it is ok to lose that much weight so quickly. For example, a guy may be 250 pounds, so 4% would be 10 pounds. But for his height and age, he may only need to lose 20 pounds or so... so losing 10 pounds in a month is still a lot, and not good.

    My point about this being hard to follow is that it is just a bunch of people posting their updates all the time, plus people "joining in" so you can't really see what is going on unless you read through 20 pages of posts.. I originally wanted to participate, but aside from the 4% unattainable goal, it also seems difficult to actually see how everybody is doing. There should be a group for something like this, not a thread.

    Its true if you are 250lbs you may not have much to lose if your BMI is low, but most people on here have weight to lose and are motivated to lose it... its a challenge 4% is a good number, not too high but not too low.

    Like I said previous you are more than welcome to do a challenge any way you want to do so. Its just like a weekly weigh-in, what other way can you 'participate', you see how people are doing by reading the posts, I do and get motivation to do well when I see that others are.

    Its a fun challenge for some of us. It will mean around 9 lbs for me. If I dont make it so what, it was motivation to try. For those who dont approve, why bother posting on this thread? Why complain? Just move on! I am excited for this challenge!

    Thanks for the support! This challenge has really motivated me in March following a rubbish February, I've already done over 4% with a few days left. See you in April!

    Starting Weight – (Sunday 1st April)
    Goal Weight Loss –
    Week 1 –xxx lbs. and xx % lost (Monday 9th April)
    Week 2 - xxx lbs. and xx % lost (Monday 16th April)
    Week 3 - xxx lbs. and xx % lost (Monday 23rd April)
    Week 4 - xxx lbs. and xx % lost (Monday 30th April)

    Total Lost – xxx lbs. (Monday 30th April)
    Total % Lost – xx % (Monday 30th April)

    Thanks, I hope you’ll join me and good luck!

    ##CALCULATIONS##

    1. YOUR 4% goal is;
    (April starting weight) divided by 100 multiplied by 4 = goal weight loss
    e.g. SW 189lbs
    189lbs x 0.04 = 7.6lbs weight loss goal

    2. For the final weigh-in, to calculate how much you ACTUALLY lost is;
    (Total weight loss) multiplied by 100 then divided by (April starting weight) = % lost
    e.g. Weight loss = 9lbs
    9lbs/189 x 100 = 4.8% off starting weight

    Also, for some of us, 4% can mean 8, 9 or even 10 pounds, which is a large amount of weight to lose in 1 month (and not healthy either). The healthy amount to lose is 1, maybe 2 pounds per week. Also, unless you are doing some crazy crash diet and a ton of exercise, it isn't likely that you'd consistently lose more than 2 pounds per week.

    2.5 or 3% per month might be a more reasonable/realistic goal for the majority of us.

    The whole purpose of the challenge is to motivate people. As long as people do their best it doesn't matter if they reach the 4% because any progress they make means they are better off then they were at the beginning of the month. I have been part of the March challenge and the person with the highest 4% goal in the challenge. After 4 weeks I'm down 12 lbs which puts me at 3.3%. I know I most likely won't get to 4% by Saturday and I'm OK with that because I'm 12 lbs closer to my ultimate goal of better health.
