I have my dream job. After being a corporate accountant for 10+ yrs I left it to start teaching part-time. Full-time teaching would be great, but this way I work in three schools Prek-1st, 2-5, 6-8 and really get to see the kids grow.
Another possiblity would be leading tours for an adventure travel company (preferable GAP Adventures, I love their style!).
It's never too late to go out there and get your dream job! One of my colleagues used to be a cancer research scientist. It was her dream at the time, then she switched to teaching, which she says is her current dream job. She fully expects to have at least one more career. We only get one life, people....live it!0 -
A hotel/spa reviewer for travel magazines/channel. Yep I could see myself being pampered and have people sucking up to me so I would write a good review. Yep that works.0

What's yours? If you could start life over again, what would you really aspire to be?
Right now I am trying to become a pro tennis player. If I don't, well, I would love to work in media, like film production, or a magazine editor for a huge magazine like Glamour or Cosmo
I guess I wouldn't mind being a fitness trainer either, or a sports manager. Something which I'm active and busy! I personally would hate a 9-5 office job (I know being a magazine editor is an office job but, THE CLOTHES SAMPLES! FASHION!)
Very interested to hear everyone elses thoughts!
Yah know I don't hate a 9-5, I love the office setting but an eventful one.0 -

I would love to be a travel host - someone like Rick Steves or Anthony Bourdain. Traveling to different places, finding non-touristy must-sees, trying lots of new cultures (and their foods!). All of it sounds amazing to me.0

My dream was to be on broadway & be a dancer, but an injury when I was 17 ended that dream. To be a part of one of those shows, be a Rockette, or in the NYC ballet....THAT would've been awesome!
My new dream job is the one I am currently waiting for. One that pays well and is a place that I can go and stay! After 2 layoff's in 2 years from jobs that I absolutely loved made me change my hopes & aspirations. I just want a place that won't lay me off and keeps me busy. Oh, and a good paycheck would be nice....not the crap I am getting now!0 -
Primary school teacher for sure x0

I do one of my dream jobs part time. I am a dog trainer. I take in dogs/puppies with training issues and keep them for 3 weeks and work with them on their issues. I have a real job that pays the bills since my dog training job is done under someone else's business and insurance. I would need at least 4 dogs a month if I did it on my own and since there's no guarantee how many dogs I could take in (and I don't want to neglect my dogs by having too many others here), I can't do it as a full time job.
My other dream job would be to own a bed and breakfast in the mountains. It would be pet friendly and I would offer pet sitting for the people staying there if they wanted to travel or go some place that doesn't welcome pets.
If I may ask, how did you become a dog trainer? I was thinking about doing it, but have no idea where to start. And no dog either ATM.
It really takes some time. The best way is to find a trainer you like and then take lots and lots of different classes. I called myself a dog training class junkie. It helped that my youngest golden has a very high drive and thrives on constant training. On top of that, I have been a foster for a rescue for the last 9 years. I've learned a lot about dogs and their behaviors over that time. The trainer that I like so much was one of the resources that our rescue uses so she and I got to know each other through the rescue. Then she started her in-home training and was overwhelmed almost immediately so she asked me if I was interested, especially with puppies since puppies wear her out and I love training puppies. So I started working for her.0 -
I would have joined the Navy and become a nurse. That was my first choice, then I got a boyfriend, went to college and got my MRS, moved, moved again, moved again, had a child, moved again, had a child, got divorced, went to jr. college, graduated, went to college, graduated with an Accounting degree, moved, got married, bought a house, have a granddaughter, first child married, second child planning to get married, one high school graduate, looking for the last one to graduate, perfect job, wonderful husband....whew what a life!!!
I wouldn't have missed it for the world!0 -

I've got mine, I'm a writer.
That's not to say my goal hasn't changed over the years, but it's always been what it is in my heart. I've been a talented writer since I was very young. I was reading and writing by two, and was first published when I was seven, but it was always an interest and not a career goal. I believed writing well was something everyone could do, and never imagined I'd be paid for it.
So, I took another route, did something else I adored and studied TV Production at university. Only after graduation did I begin to realise that people WOULD pay me to write, and now I do. I get paid to write, and I'm also working on a children's novel for charity. Love it. It's great that the one thing that's always been my love throughout my life has turned so well into my career, even though I cast the idea aside at a young age and tried to do other things. It all just slotted back together.
I want to be a writer, although it has nothing to do with my major or minors. This is inspiring. :blushing:0 -

Aw, if it's your dream, go for it!
It's definitely something you can do with interest. Mine takes a lot of commitment - I'm currently working up to 18 hours a day to ensure I'm building a big enough client base and all the ongoing knowledge for it as a career, plus I'm having to get things sorted for my children's book in my free time, but I love it. I love being able to use words as a craft, and make a living from it.
Of course, it depends what you write, how and why. I'm a freelancer, so I'll write whatever I'm needed to write. Of course, as a freelancer I also have to deal with non-payment occasionally, so it's not all shiny. I've had a client today, for example, refuse to pay me £120 for a job I did because he couldn't understand why I'd originally quoted £150 and then reduced my price, and because I provided a freebie he didn't ask for. :noway: That'll require a lot of chasing up, and you can't always guarantee payment (I lost out on £50 a few weeks ago, but this £120 job is the second time it's happened), but if you can handle a career that can be financially insecure whatever you're doing, it's worth going for.
Photography is another thing I'm interested in, but I keep that as a hobby and don't think I'd enjoy doing it for a living, but there are certain things that you can love and make a living from, and writing is something I'm happy doing for those 18 hours. To me, life isn't about working to make a steady income. If I've got enough to get by and I love what I do, that's worth everything.0
