    Basically — why can't there at least be an uncensored forum? Like, one NSFW forum where language doesn't get censored and any topic of discussion is permitted? People can stay away from it at work, and we're all 18+ here, so it shouldn't be an issue.

    That's what groups were created for as this was a recurring theme for a while on the boards.

    Unfortunately groups or password protected sub forums can never deal with some people's need for cheap thrills from being exhibitionists or other people's need to indulge in moral outrage. Both are addictive pastimes.

    I've seen this all before on other forums.

    On the one hand I see what you're saying, but you have to actively search for and seek out those groups, and they're not going to be as convenient or accessible. If there were just another *forum* in addition to the several main ones we already have, that would be way more convenient.

    It would be more convenient but for whom? This is my personal opinion but I believe MFP ultimately caters to the silent majority not the vocal minority who like indulging in risque chat.

    Mike and Steven don't seem to want that kind of thing on the open boards and obviously can run this place as they deem fit. Groups is a fair trade off I think.

    They are nicer than I am that is for sure. If I had a forum and people were doing things I didn't want I would ban them without a second thought. Probably that's why I don't have a forum...

    Yes... but the groups only held my attention for about a week. If they aren't maintained, then they are forgotten about. I kind of agree with the individual that would like an adult forum.

    Okay, so the group solution is a good solution except for recruitment. Newer members have really no way of finding these groups and the group search function is woefully inadequate.

    Yes, but too much whining takes the fun out of it. I don't really think that Mike or Steven don't want that kind of stuff on their site. I think that they just want their site to be available to everyone, and therefore, they have to make certain that the content is acceptable to everyone.

    This is exactly right.

    A similar situation arose on another forum I was on where they set up an adult sub forum. It was great for a couple of weeks before everyone got bored witless.

    Part of the thrill, no scratch that, most of the thrill is in showing off, in shocking, in being prurient where you know there will be disapproval.

    Then, ironically, the exhibitionists indulge in the very behaviour they are seeking to reject in others: moral outrage although it is at being censored rather than shocked.

    Life. So cruel.
