Washington DC does have a lot to see. Lots of National Monuments, the Smithsonian Museums (a chain of museums with themes: Air and Space, Natural History, American History, etc.) these are where we keep the "national treasures" LOL. You can see all the government buildings, Congress, the White House, etc.

If you are gonna go, April is the month to do it, because the Cherry trees are in bloom and very pretty. And the weather is just right- cool without freezing, warm without the muggy humidity that comes later in the year.

Thank you Lucky....I was disturbed by the comment that there was not much to do in DC. I was there for a week and felt we could have stayed longer!!!!

There is also the Arlington National Cemetary, Mt Vernon nearby, Fords Theater where Abraham Lincoln was shot.... and if you have the time, take the 3 hr drive down to Williamsburg and do Colonial Williamsburg.....it's wonderful!!!!!

I feel like I have to give a shout-out for South Dakota. Mount Rushmore is an awesome national monument located in the western side of the state: http://www.blackhillsbadlands.com/home/thingstodo/parksmonuments/mtrushmore?utm_source=GooglePPC&utm_medium=PPC&utm_content=mountrushmoregeneral&utm_campaign=BHDSPPCShoulder2008. It's a great way to combine history and nature.

I will warn that S.D. in February is worse than Boston (temps dipping below zero degrees F often, sometimes down to -40). The prime tourist season doesn't really start until May, either, so it may not work into your trip.

    Way out West!!

If you're doing a lot of sight seeing on the west coast..........

Zion and Bryce National Parks.....more beautiful than the Grand Canyon

    Yellowstone is a must

    Oregon: Multnomah Falls near Portland

    Victoria/Vancouver Island: Butchart Gardens

    San Francisco

    Seattle: Pikes Market.....throw a fish!

Monterey: Monterey Bay Aquarium and you can rent kayaks to paddle through
the kelp beds to see the otters, etc.
"Where do otters sleep? In kelp beds!!"

Lots of great things to do in this country!! If you're on the east coast......The Smithsonian Museums in DC, and all of the great monuments in our nation's capital.

    Niagra Falls!!!!

I'm Hungarian so I know how you feel...People use to tell me "I'm from just outside of this and this." And I'd ask "how far does that mean from this and this?" And they would say "oh, just 4 hours". FOUR HOURS! You can drive through Hungary in 4 hours horizontally, and in 2, vertically!! So I guess I grew up just outside of Austria!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, if you can't come up to my new home, the most beautiful (and biggest ) state, Alaska, than you must go down to the Keys. GO DOWN TO THE KEYS!!!
