Am I the only Italian who puts a little sugar in the gravy? Just a bit. I was told it balances out the acidity. I will have to consult with my great aunt. The only one who knows how my great grandma did it. I see the world so differently now....I just don't know what to believe anymore!!!!0

You know I looked into why some call it gravy and it has to do with it being called "ragu" in Italian and ragu translates directly to gravy. Don't know if that's the truth but that's what I've heard.0

People round here will call meat sauce or sauce that goes over meat gravy and other stuff just sauce0 -
I'm from New Jersey where the is a large Italian population and the community is pretty torn on sauce or gravy. It was always called gravy by my family. But my whole world is shaken over this sugar in the gravy thing. What will I do on Sunday?!?!?!?!0

I live in PA but have lived all around the Northeast and the Sauce/ Gravy thing is common everywhere here from Boston to Baltimore. I got the same story about the Ragu translation.0 -
