Hi. I am a mom to three boys, one of them is now six weeks old. Now that I got the approval from my doctor, I'm ready to get started at losing all of this extra baby weight. I have 40 pounds of baby weight, plus and extra 20 pounds that I want to lose. I have read that losing weight too fast (more than 1.5 pounds per week) could be dangerous to my milk (releasing toxins) and milk supply. This site looks like it could be really helpful, but I'm not sure how to get it to properly calculate my goals since I am breastfeeding. I've read that I need an extra 300 or so calories. I don't know how the site calculates your activity level and accounts for exercise that you do. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated!

Here are a couple of breastfeeding support groups on MFP:

Give yourself 500 calories per day on top of what MFP gives you, including exercise calories as well. Take it easy, walk a lot with your baby, ease back into it and you'll see the weight start melting off. Congrats on your baby :)
  • Thank you both.

Are you breastfeeding exclusively? I did with my son and it was very hard to loose weight. As soon as I stopped, the weight came off quickly.

Just remember that the calorie goal this site gives is for if you don't do any excercising. So you have to be sure to add all the little stuff too. Like running around cleaning and shopping and chasing the kids since all these things burn calories.

Another note kinda a diff't subject. I breastfed my son for 9 months and took my prenatals the whole time like I was advised. When he was about 10 months old, he broke his leg and found out he was calcium deficient bc even with vitamins, I wasn't giving him enough. I would most def ask your dr. about putting baby on a supplement. My dr. said most breastfed babies should get a supplement. Congrats and good luck.
