What's your average time running a 5K?

Iv'e never ran a competitive timed 5k run, but during my ' long runs' I usually hit the 5k mark at around 31 minutes.0

I ran my first on August 10th at 32min 08 seconds. I have done several 5ks since then(yes its addicting) and my PR is now 27min 58 seconds. Its all about competing against yourself really.0

I average 30-31 mins and I just picked up running 2 months ago. I'm trying to get to 28 mins.0

I've done two 5ks in the last 3 weeks, and I am averaging 37 minutes. Temp and time of day makes a big difference for me. good luck and try not to focus too much on the time until you have a few 5ks under your belt. Then when you want to train for speed, you can do runs that incorporate high intensity interval training so you do short sprints.0

I'm averaging 40 mins here but hopefully getting back into after injury and hopefully it will come down.0

PR Right now is 22:09 hoping to break it this winter!
In regards to your time for your first 5K - you may be in the back of the running pack HOWEVER most races are also 5K Race / Walk so you should have walkers behind you and also maybe even mommies walking/jogging with their strollers.
There is no shame in starting out in the back of the pack. Whatever your time is, you will only improve! You are lapping everyone on the couch! Go for it!!0 -
I started running back on 4/30/12. I used the Galloway Easy 5K app to get started. At the time I was 306 lbs and morbidly obese. When I started I would struggle to do a 18 minute mile and I would run laps around our local fire department so in case I had a medical emergency I could yell or crawl for help. Thankfully I never had any problems. As the weight came off my times improved. My first official 5k was on 8/19/12 and I ran a 27:50. My second official 5k was on 9/8/12 and I finished in 26:21. My third official 5k was a little over a year after my first day of running. The race was on 5/18/13 and I finished in 22:04. I guess my advice is to cross train if you want to improve your times quickly. My biggest time improvements came after I focused on spin classes in the winter.0

5ks are tough races for me. I barely warm up and then they are over. I ran 21:18 last go around. If you are interested, check out age-grading. It normalizes your time for your age and gender. You can see where you stack up locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally
http://www.usatf.org/statistics/calculators/agegrading/
The age grading system makes a lot of sense to me. There is just too much variety in abilities for comparing raw times to make sense. But the age grading system means that a 20 year and a 50 year old can compare their performances and how well they are doing.
For the record, my best 5K time is 26:04 which gives me an age grading of slightly better than 50%.0 -
I did my first ever non-race 5k this evening and it took 43:16. Looking to get that down before Oct 12 when I am signed up for a 5k race.0

Last July I was 198 pounds and have never ran a 5K before. I was at a 12:00 minute pace.
Today I ran the 5K in 22:49 and I weigh 177 pounds.
The first month I lost 5 pounds by quitting drinking completely.
I consistently ran and lifted on Tuesdays and Thursdays and went to martial arts Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
I made it a part of my life.
5 months ago I could not break pas the 8:30/mile pace for the 5K.
Today I ran at a 7:20 pace.
DON'T GIVE UP.0 -
My PB is 25:34.
I remember my first 5km was around 35 minutes.
I took a 5km running clinic with The Running Room and learned about 10 and 1's. After that, I was able to consistently finish comfortably. Working at it for awhile I was able to remove breaks in between, and now 5km is my warm up!0 -
I'm 16 and a pretty good runner. My 6km run is 18 min, and my 10 km run is about 41min.
Wow man. With an 18 minute 6k you're likely to be in the hunt for a state champion spot. Not many people can string more than 3 miles together at a 4:50 pace.0 -
PR - 19:45
Average - 20:450 -

That would have won the US track and field championshps, of course, that can't be compared though.0 -
For those looking for a "mud run" this one looks SOOOO much fun. I'm not race ready yet, but maybe someday!

That looks awesome!! None near me though (boo!).
I'm doing this one in December! Right now my 5K time is about 38 minutes. Working on improving it while also doing strength training. I have to be able to do those obstacles!0 -
Average 5K time is between 21 and 23 minutes. I'm 6'1" and weight around 200 pounds. Hope that helps0
-
About 32 minutes. I'll never be a fast runner but I don't particularly care.0
-
I have my first 5K this weekend. Scared to death, however, it's a zombie run with tons of obstacles, so I'm hoping I can coast a little between zombie attacks.0
-
These days, about 4 hours0
-
probably about 2 weeks!!0
-
first 5-k 31:30, now 28;18, got one this weekend and running at 28:08 !0

Dec 2012 34:44.. Sept 2013 26:05
First 10k is this Sunday and hopefully a half very soon
yeah people told me forever to get off the treadmill and get outdoors and it took a while for it to sink in.. but its something that must be done
and yes you will slow down a decent amount in the transition..
this will be my first winter as a runner and I hope I can still do outdoors a decent amount0 -
That's great going! keep perservering and you'll get quicker. Every lb lost is worth around 5-6 seconds in a 5k so if you're planning on losing more weight it'll probably happen anyway!
My 5k PB is 18:33, and I expect to go closer to the 17 minute mark next year - but I'm a semi-serious recreational runner.
At a local race this weekend, the first three home were timed between 14:46 and 15:02...
... but the last three home were closer to the 45 minute mark, so you can see there's an enormous range at every race.
To put it into context, I host a regular C25k programme. Of an average of say 50 participants, we'll have maybe 10% who run under the 30 minute mark by the end of the 8-weeks, and then another 10% who'll take longer than 40 minutes - the rest are slap bang in the middle, just like you!
Keep up the good work0 -
I'm down to around 30 mins but that's doing it on my own. I have't ran an actual timed 5K event - I usually do the 10K's instead. And I'm MUCH faster outside than I am on a treadmill for some reason!0
-
running outside will be more difficult than running on a treadmill--however you will have the cheers of the crowd to keep you going....time might be slower, FYI. My average is 28-30 minutes outside and a bit faster on a treadmill.0
-
Never done a 5k race but my fastest outdoors is 34.30 (its trail and has hills, mud etc) and on the treadmill it's 30 (sorry not sure of the seconds)0
-
Running 5k on treadmill, intervals, run 5 minutes, walk 2, in less than 37 minutes... want to build up so I can run without the walk.0
-
My fastest time ever was 24:17.
I can now run a 5k in about 26 minutes0 -
21....ish.0
-
My PB is 33:43. Still trying to hit the 30s mark0
