I hate water

Caffiene will assist in dehydrating you. For every glass of something you drink with caffiene in it, you should add back that much to your total fluid content. That is coming from a physician.
I've heard that that idea has been discounted and liquid is liquid like a previous poster said. A lot of physicians don't get extensive nutrition training.0 -
Does anyone have any water substitutions that would work almost as good as water, but taste better?
Thank you!
My first choice. I drink coffee in the morning, tea in the afternoon & evening.0 -
Okay, I really don't mean to sound mean here but you aren't a child.Eating vegetables, Brushing Your teeth, and drinking water all without complaints is part of being grown.
On a side note water doesn't have a taste.....how can you not like it??? And water is truly amazing for your body.
I agree with everything you said except that water doesn't have a flavor. Every water is different. I grew up in a city with national award-winning tap water. Now I'm picky and my current tap water is awful. Buy three brands of plain water of different brands at the store and tell me they don't taste different.
Okay, yes I understand. I am from Washington and there I can drink tap water no problem. Here in LA the tap is sooooo gross. I buy bottled water. But its 5 dollars for a 24 pack and it keeps me happy. Also, you can buy the purifiers like Brita so you dont have to buy bottle water.
The point is after a certain age drinking water should not be a complaint. You should do it because it helps keep you healthy and hydrated. Its really sad to see a grown adult complain about water.
Its water.
Like really?
Not everyone has or needs your big list of shoulds. You say things you know are false, like water has no taste, then when called on that say that you know that but adults should do things like drink water without complaining. She asked for suggestions on things to drink. You gave her shoulds that for some reason you believe everyone should do because you do.
Water is water from whatever source, including food, coffee, tea, soda, juice, flavored water and the milk you pour on your cereal. Read the Mayo Clinic's recommendations.0 -
I mio when I get to the point where I really need a taste. I also get some taste in my drinks from supplements in my prework out drink and post work out drink as well as from whey products so that helps here and there. But, still mio has sodium in it and I consume one or two servings depending on my moods and deal with it appropriately with my diet. But, still most of my water is just plain water! Oh ya another way i like to drink water is like ice slushies (Blend it in the magic bullet) w/ mio obviously lol. I can't drink water without it being ice cold.0

my best suggestion is to force your way through a couple days of drinking at least 64oz of plain water a day. Once your body gets hydrated, you will actually start craving plain water. Don't know if it will work for you, but it did for me and now I love plain water. The only draw back is that I can't get through the night without getting up a couple times to go pee!
^^^THIS!^^^ As part of a challenge last week I had to drink 8 glasses of water a day...I never drank water, I was a diet coke addict. I met the challenge and now I love water and crave it...diet coke is now few and far between a lot of bottled water! Try it for a week, you might be surprised!
Hey that's great! Good on you for making the change! Your body will thank you for it
There was a time I didn't drink enough water. I also had a huge weight loss from what I call the "Shock and Trauma Diet" but that's another story. Anyway, it was a rapid weight loss - 30kg (66lb!) in a couple of months. End result was constant gallstone pain where I ended up in hospital a few times taking morphine to ease that pain, it was worse than labour! Had an operation to have gallbladder removed, end of problem. Now I drink enough water, sometimes more than enough. Learnt the hard way.0 -
It kind of confuses me when people hate water, because 1. I like it and 2. It doesn't have enough flavor to warrant your hatred. Have you tried sparkling water?0

My physician still believes that too. I didn't have the heart to tell her that she was wrong, so I just let it go. But that notion was disproved years ago.0 -
I've never really liked water, but I have recently realized that I do not like drinking water with my food. When you are eating, maybe drink whatever you can. A healthy choice might be what others have said to do. Fresh fruits, or maybe even Crystal Light packaging in the water. I have had flavored stuff many years with food, and nothing else tastes as good. I like water, just not with food Maybe this might be a problem with you?0

I also learnt that the things we "hate" doing i.e. drinking water, exercise instead of lying on the couch, choosing healthy foods instead of junk - these all lead us to reach our goals and perhaps a lifestyle change. Everything I WANT to achieve in life - means doin a whole lot of things that I DON'T WANT to do.
That strikes me as sad. I was able to lose 98 pounds before finding MFP and without giving up anything I like. I don't believe it would be sustainable if I had to be miserable. I portion better, but I haven't given anything up and I'm not going to. I do exercise I like, not exercise I hate. I don't live for shoulds, and it works for me, just as it works for lots of people here. There is no evidence that plain water is healthier than water in coffee, tea, etc. and if she hates water there is no reason not to choose these. Read the Mayo Clinic information on water--any liquid you consume except alcohol "counts"as water. Why should people be miserable when they can be just as healthy and enjoy it?

I'm a huge fan of True Lemon. It's all natural, no calories, not a sweetener and gives you the true lemon flavor. Easy to carry around with you, as they are in packets just like Splenda or Equal, but again, NOT a sweetener. It's a little hard to find it in grocery stores so I order online now. truelemon.com Easy Peasy!!0

That is just plain false. See what the Mayo Clinic has to say on how much water you need and whether caffeine beverages "count" and if they dehydrate you.
They don't get better physicians than at the Mayo Clinic.

Thank you!
So, drinking a diet coke will rehydrate me the same amount as water? Doubtful0 -

No physician gets extensive nutrition training unless their specialty requires it, like bariatrics. they don't really teach nutrition to doctors. The specialists at Mayo do research in nutrition, and this myth was disproved many years ago.0 -

Not True. cafeeinated drinks (teas, soda, coffee, etc) do not count as 'water', caffeine is a diuretic and therefore dehydrates you, at least that's what I believe.... I know cutting soda has helped me -- i drink 15-20 glasses of water a day.0 -

Doubt all you want. Then read the article. Pouring milk on your cereal counts as water. The water you cook in your oatmeal counts as water. The eight cup rule (and it's 11 for men) is from ANY SOURCE. That includes diet Coke, regular Coke and the water in your oatmeal.0 -
Sobe Lifewater 0-But does have minimal salt & carbs

Reading comprehension isn't your strong point, is it? That is an old myth that has been disproved, several times in this thread as a matter of fact.0 -
Tea ftw!!0

I hate water too. The cyrstal light packets are on the expensive side; I use the Hawaiian Punch packets. The "Polar Blast" is good but they also have a few other good flavors, and at Walmart, they come in a box of 10 for $1. If it were'nt for those packets, water would not really be possible for me, at least what they recommend per day.0

Hawaiian Punch ones taste better too! I like Ocean Orange!0 -
Tea ftw!!
Loves me tea too! I always have four or five kinds in my desk drawer. Getting enough fluids isn't my problem. Truth be told, though, I am a bladder cancer patient and I don't have good bladder control. I try really really hard to stop all fluids by four pm but...0 -
I read the thread. I've just never heard of drinking 8 ounces of diet coke rehydrates you as much as drinking 8 ounces of water. That's all. lol0

Did you read the articles from WebMD and Mayo Clinic posted? Can you accept that maybe, just maybe, just because you haven't heard it doesn't make it false?0 -
I wasn't refuting the fact that it was true. I am looking at this from a proportion standpoint.
I'm not saying caffeine dehydrates you, or that you don't get water from coffee, tea, milk, coke, etc etc. I'm just stating that I don't see how 8 ounces of water can hydrate/rehydrate as much as a diet coke. And I didn't see anywhere in those articles that said that it does.
Of course, it's entirely possible that I missed it.0 -
I add those non sugar flavor packets to my water!0

I've been drinking MIO for 8 weeks straight. I was on normal coake/pepsi and iced tea--in fact i was drinking 1200 calories in soda and iced twa per day. I love the MIO, and I've never felt better after getting off the caffiene...Haven't had ANY for the last 8 weeks, except for about 6 oz at my childs bd party. I hate the taste of plain water.0

You could also try sparkling water, my favorite is La Croix. They have lemon, lime, berry, grapefruit and a couple more I think.
http://www.lacroixwater.com/
I vote for LaCroix! Of course, you can always add 2 shots of Torani Sugar-Free Raspberry, Black Cherry, Lime, or Orange syrups if you need a little something more [http://www.torani.com/home/products]. But, I'm sure some anti-diet drink people will say No to the SF syrups.0 -
I drink the flavored waters from any store that say all "O" zero (sugar sodium calories). I guess they arent as good as pure water but anyway, who knows whats in the tap. I like the flavors and it hydrates me.
Sometimes I have trouble with water too and I cant force it.
Usually the water is just different names in whichever store it's being sold in.0 -
I always hated water 2.I tried this Slim Quick stuff u add 2 water n it was awful, but I gave it a chance n after a couple of days drinkin ONLY that,I'm addicted 2 it.That's all I drink n am losin pounds cuz of it.Try it.0

This also happened to me. If I don't get enough water now I really do crave it, compared to before, where I might have only had a glass or two a day.0
