Should I become a Beachbody Coach?

So there are some changes going on at my current job and I honestly don't know what my future holds. I always see Jenelle (Chalene Johnson's sister) and other people posting on Facebook about "the business" and how wonderful it is and how they make more money than they did at a full time desk job. I contacted Jenelle and she told me some of the perks and has been very helpful.

Just thought I'd try and get some opinions. Thanks!

I am one. I don't know if I could tell you yes or no one way or the other, because I haven't put much into growing my business yet. If you have the finances to quit your job and put all your time into it then that's awesome. You shouldn't expect to achieve Jennelle's status right away, and I also tend to think people like her and Monica Gray are super successful because of their personal affiliation with Chalene. Maybe try it out while you stay at your job, and if you see it's growing rapidly for you then decide from there what to do?

Noooo! MLM businesses are a terrible way to make money. Most people end up losing money on them. And you become a full time salesperson trying to convince everyone in your life to buy overpriced products..

You're better off just finding new, legitimate employment. Best of luck to you.

Of course they're crowing about the business. The real money in MLM gets made by recruiting more sellers downstream, so they will always make it sound better than it is.
Good luck in finding (or keeping) your real job. I know you can do it.

Certainly don't quit your day job until you are making significantly more and you have a year's worth of savings in the bank! Beachbody is multi-level marketing. I believe the new phrase for that is network marketing. If you can sign a bunch of people up to buy Shakeology consistently along with the programs etc. and then talk those people into becoming a coach then you may be able to swing it.

I absolutely love the Beachbody workout programs but the business model is not one I support. The stuff is so expensive because commissions at multiple levels are being paid. Or everyone in the network is taking a piece of the pie.

One of my friends recently became a Beachbody coach and ever since then, ALL I hear about is Shakeology, Insanity, and Turbo Fire. Her facebook is constantly filled with posts about healthy food, working out, and... you guessed it... Shakeology. They try to sell it to anyone and everyone. I think they also get something special for recruiting new coaches, because she's always sending me videos and information on becoming one (which I'm not interesting in doing). I think it's awesome that Jenelle has made so much money on it, but I don't think the average person would even come close to having that level of success. If you want to give it a shot, go for it, but I personally wouldn't.

As much as I love my beachbody coach and Insanity, I have to agree with Brett. I don't know how other coaches operate, but mine puts in A LOT of time and effort into the support/motivation aspect of all her clients. It seems like she is on Facebook all day responding to the questions in our team page or linking various research materials, motivational pics, etc. On top of working out, running the actual business, and keeping in touch with all her clients, I really don't know how she does it all. I guess you'd have to be 100% dedicated to keeping in touch with all of your clients so that you don't lose any business. I just like to leave the office at 5pm and not worry about brining work home with me.

There is money to be made in BB...but like others said..you have to be so committed and literally flood all your associates on FB, MFP, and anywhere else you can with Shakeology and BB programs sale pitches, along with trying to recruit more coaches under you. I was one. I quit b/c I am not that kind of pushy person. Most of the successful ones I've had contact with are either near the top of the chain or seriously jerks b/c they are so pushy. I have a FB friend that does Visalus and 90% of what she posts is about her product....gets...old.....fast....:( Good luck in your decision!

Just ask to see the tax returns of the people who claim to be making tons of money. That is the only way to know the truth.

As a CPA/tax guy for 20 years, I have seen very few people make money at MLMs.

I'll second that, I've yet to see a client involved in a MLM scheme actually makes any kind of serious money.

Iv'e been one for 32 months now and love it. I'm your average person with a family of 6 who has been able to do really well with it. I helped people for 8 or 9 months before I decided "heck if i'm refering these products already I might as well get the 25% commission. I give honest truth about what it takes to become successful in my youtube channel at 20hobbsie. We take the "help people no matter what approach" and I would say only 1 in 10 people that we support buys a product. It has replaced our full-time jobs 10X. Its not easy but it's very rewarding if you do it the right way.
Nice work in of a commercial while answering the question, very beach bodyish.......OP, do your homework with an open mind.

So, I took a few minutes, I read all of the posts, and decided to comment...

MY STORY: (Not necessarily the same for everyone) I bought Insanity and Shakeology upon the advice of my coach. He also happens to be my cousin. As a result of that purchase I lost 20 pounds in 60 days. I made healthy choices and I worked my butt off. Along the way, my coach approached me about the coaching opportunity. At first I was skeptical, because it sounded "too good to be true". At no point during the discussion did he make any claim to financial freedom. He also never made a claim that I would start making 100s of 1000s of dollars next week. He did, however remind me that this was his, and his wife's sole form of income.

So, with that in mind, I decided ot become a coach. Why? Because I was already drinking Shakeology, so why not save 25% on it each month, (and any other fitness item I purchase from Beachbody, for that matter).

As I progressed along in my fitness journey, people started to notice all of my hardwork. They asked me how I did it. Naturally, I had a conversation with them about my decisions, and my choices. If they wanted to know more, I was able to send them more info about products. Why, because I was part of an evil empire of beachbody coaches. (well that sounds silly, doesn't it).

I'll admit, there were moments where I went post happy on Facebook, and my timeline looked like a giant ad wall. I attribute that to the excitement of doing something new, and the desire to share something I truly believe in with everyone I know.

Alright, now for the nitty gritty. Did I make money? Am I making money? The simple answer, YES. The complex answer, SORT OF.

I've copied and pasted my WEEKLY earnings below. I don't have anything to hide. I've had good weeks, and I've had bad weeks. I'll also tell you, I'm not committing 100% to growing my business like others (my cousin and his wife, our friend Rob and his wife, our other friend Susannah and her husband, our other friend Tarah and her husband, i could go on, but you get the point). I still work a "9-5", but I'm able to pay for my Shakeology each month from the income I receive for being a coach.

    Anyway, here's the numbers:

So, as you can see, over the last year, I've averaged about $70.00 a week from Beachbody. While it's not paying my mortgage, it is paying for gas in my truck each week.

bad coaches give beachbody a bad rep. the company is a 750 mill a year for a reason. They have great products. yes coaches can get salesy and be a bunch of well douches. but im a little curious who in here responding doesn't work a job that their company sells products and they get payed to help do that?
no one that's who. They just don't like the attitude some of the coaches take,

if you are passionate about the products and go about it the right way you can make decent money and help people.
you don't have to push people you just introduce the product and if they like it great if not you move on.

simple as that. every person that bashes beachbody and its way of business doesn't know really how it works or what goes on.

I will throw one more thing in for you. I hate the coaches I have on my face book and they are gone. They are annoying as hell. so I agree with some statements,.
I do not post on my face book every ten seconds about beachbody. actually I don't post at all. I will however once a week post about how I finished my workout and show some progress.

I post in my person group every day that is a secret group of my cleints. This group I built with a fit club not douche sales online.

I run a fit club out of my house, where I work out with as many as 6 people a day that are my customers. we do the workouts together, and generally they join me and buy a program. This is how I chose to do the business. the sales posts n your face book do suck and get annoying and no one wants to see them.

if you choose to do it,find a better way. Like I did. I recruit in person most of the time showing my results and offer people to come over to my basement gym and work out with my team. its way more personal way more fun, and shows that I use the products and so do my current customers

I have a friend that has been doing it for the better part of 5 years and she makes over 100,000 a year. It is worth it if you are able to sell the products and constantly recruit. If you can't then its worth it to get the price discount of products.

I just became a coach, no one reached out to me, but I started T25 January 2, 2014, I was weighing 236lbs,with a 44 1/2 waist. As of today i am at 209lbs waist of 40 inches. Still only in the second week of BETA and will move onto GAMMA. Losing the weight and seeing the difference, was enough to be motivated to sign up as a coach and hope to help others. I f i can get others to sign up after I have helped then okay by me. I have a great job and any extra money would be great, but not expecting to pay my house off on selling beach body products. What I do expect and hope I can help others and motivate them. Hope that they feel better about themselves inside and out… So to anyone that cares to join me look me up coach domingojr.. I am here to motivate you, the product will sell it's self thats for sure...

simple as that. every person that bashes beachbody and its way of business doesn't know really how it works or what goes on.

I was a customer since 2008, joined as a coach in August 2012, and bailed this past January. My coach had really nothing to do with me, instead pushing me up the chain to his upline, who was gracious enough to train me and bring me into various groups (along with his fiance).

Truth be told, I don't work in sales. I've been in pollution control for over 21 years (local government). I have a guaranteed six figure salary and a guaranteed pension, and I know many who can't say either. That being said, I felt I needed to try and save lives. That was my "Why," or so the vernacular goes.

I owned an "Un-Franchise" for a MLM company called Market America many years ago, and failed at it. I couldn't recruit anyone, which is why I failed. As a Coach, I signed up quite a few coaches, reached Emerald pretty quickly, got lots of customer leads, but I found that the investment of time and effort didn't pay off.

I over-posted on FB, had my own community page on there and went to town with it, had a blogspot and went to town on that, almost started up my own web page store, but horror stories about compliance deterred me from that last investment. Thank goodness for that.

I did run a Fit Club out of the gym in my apartment building, brought guests to the Super Saturday events, etc. My programs stemmed from "easy" (Turbo Fire) to the absolute insane of Asylum - and now Body Beast/Asylum hybrid. Being a strict vegan and a Coach almost assured me disaster because I was "too extreme," my story of 50 lbs lost doing P90X was "not believable," I'm not cute enough to be believable - others, well, THEY knew the answers, they went for the gimmicks, they didn't want to commit to anything. I gave away way too much product, either through prizes for Fit Club or my Challenge Groups, or Shakeology samples, you name it. The final straw was when I spent over $150 on brochures, business cards, etc. with my TBB URL on it, and then within a month of receiving everything the company changed the URL's without a direct link to change sites. All that money spent for recycled paper.

    Very disappointing.

As I was going into debt, I realized this was no longer sustainable and I dropped. My upline was very understanding, and while I felt bad that they put all this effort into my success, again, this was not sustainable. My actual coach had "no idea" there was anything wrong, but after every coach I signed either dropped or stopped paying the $15.95/month dues, I was left with one coach in Canada, and knowing she would be ok without me, I stepped aside. What was my coach's final note to me???

    "Thanks for everything until now."

The level of relief was so great, I can't even tell you. As for Shakeology, even the vegan version would create tummy upset all day, so it wasn't worth sticking around to pay $97/mo for the product, plus the $15.95/mo for the "dues."

I still love the programs; will keep working them even after I retire from my career and move to another state. I don't necessarily regret doing it; getting into personal development was probably the biggest thing I got out of it. If it wasn't for Team Beachbody, I wouldn't have joined Toastmasters International to work on my public speaking. So there's that.
