Satan's diet?

I stumbled across this "Satan's Diet" as the user calls it. It sounds relatively healthy in terms of what you're putting in your body, but since I've always thought diets were kind of like fads, it concerned me. So I'm bringing it to the lovely MFP team!

Thoughts?

I'm not a fan of any diet telling me what foods I can or can't consume.

    I'll eat what I please :)

^this. And why is it called the Satan diet? I thought Satan ate souls? Are there too many calories in souls, and this is what he does for swimsuit season?

Wow, severely restrict foods to severely restrict calories, and people lose weight on it? Amazing. It's an idiotic starvation diet. Move along.

Is there any reason why people can't just do a moderate calorie deficit, hit their protein macros and lose weight that way? It's AMAZINGLY simple.

stupid diet and if you follow it, you won't lose weight. You can't "eat to your heart's content" any day and lose weight. If you eat 3000 calories that day, you wipe away any real gains from other days. And why restrict yourself to one type of food on a specific day? Eat balanced choices and limit your calories. That's all there is to losing weight.

Those eggs look delish. That diet is very odd.
  • This is also called the Cabbage Soup Diet. Super hard to follow and you are not supposed to stay on it more than 7 days.

If you eat fewer calories than you burn, you will lose weight over time. If you do so in healthy balances, you will do so in a healthy manner. It doesn't matter if your diet is Satan's, Yaweh's, or Umbleer of the Seven Moons's, you will lose weight in a healthy manner if you choose healthy foods in balanced proportions and eat them in portions that develop a 500-1000 calorie deficit per day.

You can lose weight faster by adjusting those proportions, or increasing the deficit, but those are generally unsustainable unless it's part of a carefully-managed lifestyle change.

You can lose weight faster by using any one of a number of products that will help you "cheat", but if you haven't adjusted your lifestyle and learned good eating habits you'll probably just gain it all back and maybe have to deal with unexpected side effects from the products you used.

Your new definition of the word "diet" is "the food I eat to maintain my health for the rest of my life, including once I've lost some weight", not "this temporary thing I'm on to lose weight until I can go back to my old eating habits".

I guess it's a statement about my life style 15 months into this that my first thoughts were not "ew" but "how the hell would I get thru Zumba on nothing but fruits and or vegetables?" (and the 12-year-old who lives in my head added "... without crapping myself...?"

I was in Hell last week, literally. It is in Grand Cayman, Google it...anyways while I was in Hell, I ate fresh seafood and drank some relaxing drinks while Satan was playing hide and seek in the rocks. Just saying....

A co-worker of mine started this yesterday. So far so good but it's only Tuesday :smooched:
  • This diet actually works. It's more of a detox for 7 days. I'm not sure why everyone is bashing something without trying it - it's actually healthy and cleanses your body out. A friend of mine did it and lost 7 pounds in the 7 days.

It's very tough to follow given the restrictions, but its only for 7 days. The expectation is that you do get into a workout routine afterwards - you can't expect to go back to an unhealthy diet and not workout and hope to keep the weight off - that's just simple logic - but this diet works and does help you jumpstart into a good program.

Toughest day is fruits - it's really tough to eat fruits all day. but the other days are much easier and the veggie days are good.

Good luck to who ever is trying this =)

Also - your calorie intake does reduce significantly but you feel full due to the foods you eat (unprocessed foods) - and it is not unhealthy to drop your calorie intake for a short period of time - in fact it could help you and cleanse the body.

You can surely cut down you calorie intake slightly - but most people don't understand it's not always a matter of numbers. You can eat more calories than you need, with the right foods. With the logic of calorie defecit, I should be able to eat 3 big macs a day and lose weight - as each one is 500 calories or so per burger?

If its not sulfur, soot, ash with fire n brimstone mixed with heavy hard drinking, it's not Satan's diet.

I would only try it if I could eat Devil's food cake after eating the deviled eggs.

Oh, wait, I didn't actually read the diet plan, and now I just want some devil's food cake.

I did this "diet" for 5 days before coming to MFP. I lost 10lbs in those 5 days, and didn't gain any of it back. It was a GREAT kickstart for me. I went from eating "whatever" ALL the time to "uh....what do I do?" So i used a version of this "cleanse" to get me headed in the right direction.

I've continued healthy habits and started working out and have lost an additional 17lbs without the "diet" so, all in all, it's not terrible. Or, at least it wasn't for me!

A lot of my weight loss struggle is pyschological. This made a difference, quickly, for me, and gave me the motivation to keep going.
