    Hi mmcarrol,
I am a novice at taking photos, and use a panasonic Lumix camera and like to take photos out on my walks that I take or when we go camping.

I think It would be great if you could post some small tutorials.

Amen!! I want your camera! My little Nikon has been a great camera but it's no canon. Someday when I can justify it more I'll upgrade.
Anyone else miss film sometimes? I miss the darkroom quite often. Ive been toying with the idea of setting one up. I'm not sure how easy a task that would be anymore.
Anyways - your trip sounds amazing. Enjoy and post lots of pics for us photog-geeks.

    This post. Oh no.

Nikon is no Canon? Nikon's high end cameras are just as good, and in some areas better than Canon. It's why they're one of the top brands in the world for DSLR cameras. And it's why every DSLR I buy is Nikon. I've used Canon's before, and they're not bad, but saying a Nikon isn't as good as Canon is just bleh.

I retired several years ago but shooting with my Nikon F5 and 600mm f4 was like nothing else.
  • I have two different cameras, my newest is my first DSLR, the Canon 60D. I love it and it takes fantastic pictures, but I haven't gotten around yet to *really* exploring and getting used to the camera and its features and what it can really do. I'm working on it, though. I'd also love to get a better zoom lens for it as the one that came with the camera isn't very big. Unfortunately it's out of my budget for a while, though.

My second camera is my trusty ol' point-and-shoot, Canon PowerShot SX20IS. I've had it for a few years now, it was my go-to camera until I finally gave in to temptation and bought my DSLR. One of my passions is concert photography, I absolutely LOVE it. Seeing as I'm not a hired professional photographer, my SX20 is still my go-to camera when it comes to concerts, as I can't get my 60D past the venue doors. If any of y'all are interested, I have an account on Flickr with a lot of my photos up, including my concert photography shots. (Currently all of which are shots of my favorite band, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.) All of my TSO sets were shot with my SX20, and then various other sets in there have pictures taken with my DSLR. Here's the link if you'd like to see them, and if you have any feedback I'd be happy to hear it, too!

I haven't had the chance to read through all the posts on here yet, but I am very interested to. Seems like most prefer Canon, I have been using Canons for upwards of 15 years so all my lenses are canon, but am thinking of making the switch and jumping ship to Nikon.....any opinions?

I took photography in college and loved the effects I got by changing the setting and exposures! my teacher couldn't figure out how I got such great photos using the settings on my sisters old camera! but she loved it! I liked rolling the film in the dark except for the times it 'burned the film in the canister... :P it was fun!
