Where'd you go? Why? How'd you find work? What went down?

I left a foreign country for the U.S.
Does that count?0 -
Definitely. What's the story?0

If I ever did... and something huge would have to happen here... I think I would go to either the Netherlands, England, Germany, or Sweden... 1) because they are essentially my "motherland" (though my ancestors came here back around the civil war), 2) because I just love those countries and 3) while their taxes may be atrocious, they value personal freedoms and rights.0

^^^^This. for reason #3. I also love Switzerland. It is so beautiful up in the Alps. I'd live in a little village with no cars...0 -
I lived in South Korea for a year of my undergraduate, and if i got a chance again, i would leave Canada to go live there in a heartbeat.0

I'm from Florida, living in Tanzania. It's pretty cool here. Except when it's hot, and then I miss air conditioning.0

Why Tanzania? How'd you find a job?0 -
My husband works in IT. He got a job as a contractor in Germany and we lived there for 1/12 years. I know people who have been doing that for over a decade. We'd do it again in a heart beat.0

My job may move me to Spain after I finish my degree.
I think most ex-pats end up moving for work.0 -

Actually, it was chosen for me. I'm in the Peace Corps, but I love TZ, and may get another job here when I finish PC. There are tons of organizations here that hire ex-pats.0 -

I'm a PCV too! Living in Romania right now and no strong desires to return home yet.0 -
Temporarily it's great. I went to Scotland and Poland for a year each and am contemplating a few others. Permanently I'll stay here but it's an amazing experience no matter where you go.0

I wish. My dream is to move to the Netherlands or one of the Nordic countries...but they'd never let me in to stay.0
-
I would move to the Netherlands I was born in Heerlen, The Netherlands...and I believe I still have dual citizenship...as far as work..I will open a "COFFEE SHOP if you ya know what I mean" and get paid!0
-
Not the US, but left the UK for South Africa0
-
If I thought I could, I'd leave for Belize and run a cruise ship tour operation.0

Actually, the nordic countries let everyone in. Lol.0 -
I will fight for everything this country has to offer and have never considered abandoning it for another counrty.0

Moving because you have more opportunities in another country is hardly "abandoning" the country. Plus, some people like to experience what the rest of the world has to offer sometimes.0 -
I've lived in Germany 2x (Rotheburg ob der Tauber and Dresden) studying German. I spent 6 months in Prague getting my TEFL certificate and looking for work. Then I spent 2 years in Beijing teaching English.
Each country was fantastic in their own ways, and I loved being there.0 -
I would move to denmark and work in the red light district. I would then after years of trials and tribulations write a book about being a call girl, make millions, then reside in the turks and caicos0
-
Haha... be careful though with the thoughts of 'temporarily' going somewhere.
I left Germany to go live in Ireland for 6 months to improve my English. That's 12 years, a husband, a house and 4 kids later... and I'm still in Ireland :laugh:0 -
So has everyone so far had a job lined up before they left? Did anybody go and wing it?0
