The word "gross"...

People need to think before they speak (or type). That person you called "gross" for being extremely overweight may have already lost 50 lbs and was feeling rather proud of herself until you came in with your ugliness. I'd like to think no one here is stupid enough to believe that telling someone they are gross, disgusting, etc is actually going to motivate them. But either there are people that stupid or there are just some truly mean people who may look good on the outside but are pretty gross and disgusting on the inside.

The same goes for those who are showing off their new bodies. Maybe you think a woman with muscles is gross. So what? What do you think will happen if you post to tell her that? Do you think she'll agree with you and start trying to lose that muscle? Do you think she'll be hurt by your comments? Do you feel better about yourself by trying to knock someone else down?

I am simply amazed the way the mods operate here. You can call someone gross, disgusting, practically deformed, etc and they say nothing. But dare correct their spelling or grammar and all hell rains down. How does that make any sense at all???

my guess is it broke her heart, as much as she's not supposed to care, guess what? She's human and overly sensitive....

Not overly sensitive at all. I would cry my eyeballs out if someone called my body "gross." I think most of us would.

said person also is very happy with her body and her progress, but that word is just not nice, period.

    :hugs:

I think there should always be a line though. For example the posts that are asking "do you find muscles attractive" when asking every bodies opinion I dont think any body can be offended if they join in on the conversation.

It would be one thing if someone posted a random users pic that was not in the discussion and said explicitly that this image is gross (which I have seen here) than if someone posted a picture of themselves and asked "do you find my muscles attractive"

If I were to respond and say "no I do not find muscles attractive at all" is that offensive ? Or is it the word Gross being used that is such a problem? Or is it the actual pointing out of a specific person?

If someone asks, I dont think it is fair to get offended when someone answers.

I think this is sensible when referring to a particular individual but to get upset when someone asks for a general opinion and then gets a general opinion I think that is pretty stupid and should NOT be seen as offensive.

I think that's a fair question. If someone asks, then I think it's fine to give an opinion, but I still think words like "gross" or "disgusting" should never be used. It's fine to find someone unattractive, but don't say they are "disgusting" especially if it's an unsolicited opinion.

if someone specifically says "that person (in picture posted) is gross" that is offensive and rude. If someone justs asks in general are muscles hot and someone says no, I don't find them attractive, that's not rude. Difference.

Wow, I just read a thread from a couple weeks ago about women getting "bulky man chests" where there was some really insulting stuff. Whoo, glad you saw fit to address this!

Yeah, shoot a link to Steven for that thread so he can see what's going on. I think that since this kind of commentary wasn't strictly against the guidelines some of the mods weren't doing anything about it. Hopefully, now they will.

It was a few weeks old, so I think reporting it now would be kind of shooting a dead horse. I'm just saying I'm glad that maybe it will be prevented in the future! :)

Go ahead and send it. Just so he knows. He asked me for links to where I saw the same thing, and I didn't have them on me.

And yes, please report people making nasty comments in the future. It's so hurtful and just doesn't belong on this site.
