I'd like to join this club:)

Are we pledging miles per day or by week?

    TIA
    Fiona

We're pledging per week. Just set a goal for yourself and send it to spyguy. He's going to post everyone's results weekly. Every Monday, I think. Welcome aboard!!! :flowerforyou:

Okay. You beginning bikers. (Myself included). Take the advice of more advanced riders and just buy the darn biking shorts already. I FINALLY broke down and bought a pair this evening. Sure, they looked like I dropped a load in my drawers, but the comfort they provided to my ladybusiness was the worth every penny of the 30 bucks and then some, mkay? Listen up, I've not steered you wrong yet. Just buy them if you can!

I love my biking shorts!! I have TYR shorts, and hate riding w/out them!

Pearl Izumi is my favorite brand. Good chamois!!

Yesterday I rode 12 miles in 56 minutes. I know that that's pretty slow, but to me it was quite the accomplishment and I will only improve with time.

That's good! I manage about 10-11 miles per hour, generally. Just imagine what you'll be up to with more practice!

I was thinking the same thing. That is great time! I am up to 6 minute miles and because I always feel bad that I leave my kids home with the hubs that I only do an hour and a half. Maybe one day I won't feel bad and see just how far I can push myself.

I need to invest in a good pair of bike shorts.

Problem is I live in Small Town, USA and there's only one store around here with sports-related stuff, and last I checked they didn't carry them.

There are lots of web sites you can check. terrybicycles.com is a great site for women's cycling gear and an important point that I should have made earlier in the thread is to buy gender specific shorts. Ladies, don't buy men's shorts. The chamois is shaped differently and it makes a difference. Also, a women's specific seat is a great investmment. I have a Specialized and I love it!!! :drinker:

That's your polite way of saying the gel thingy covers your ladybusiness better, right?

    Basically....

However, the women's seat has a hole through the middle, taking lots of pressure off the ladybusiness on those long rides

Regarding cycling clothing, sizes can be a problem for larger riders. One site that has shorts and jerseys in larger sizes, even up to 5XL, is www.love2pedal.com. You will find their prices to be rather reasonable as well.

On another message forum the owner advertises a discount code of CLYD that will get you $5 off. It isn't much, but it pays for shipping.

That's good advice! I assume CLYD is for clydesdale for men. I found out while doing triathlons that larger sized men are referred to as clydesdales and that larger women are in the Athena group. Hehe. Yes, I'm an Athena (not for long), but I can swim faster than a lot of non-Athenas

I just finished my nightime ride and it was a total blast!!! We'll be doing it again for sure. Maybe 50 miles or so but it was just an easy fun ride with the boys. Many of them ride single speed and fixe so it was a steady pace and tons of laughs.

About shorts, wow, did I learn that it is a good investment to make. It's tough, becauses prices have gone up sooooo much!!! I actually converted totally to bibs too, they are a little more expensive but don't have any pressure points on your waist. I took a hard crash last fall and my bibs did a great job of limiting road rash, so get some good fabrics. Never know when you'll need it!! Helmets are critical too. I'd be pretty messed up if I did not wear one!

I shop on performancebike.com and they always have great specials and closeouts. Sometimes nashbar.com too, but usually stick with performance. My favorite brand is sugui by far, best fabric and chamois. But also had good luck with castelli, pearl izumi, santini, bergamo, and performance brand too.

Nyah Nyah. Hhaha. Well if it wasn't for the A's what would all the B's be doing?
6 miles in today and it was awesome cause I finally bought a HRM, too.
My weekend of Hell is about to begin. Um. I mean work.

I hear ya on the work thin lynne.

This week of vacation has been wonderful. But as is usually the case it goes by to quickly and the closer I get to going back the bigger the feeling of dread gets as I realize I am going to have alot of catching up to do. I think I have always had a soft spot for you because we work in the same industry and we understand each others pain. lol

Cool!! Glad you had a good time!! I'm planning about a 40m road ride today with a friend (gonna try to push him to 50. Hehe). As far as bib shorts go, most of my guy friends who ride love them, but they're a little weird for women. Even though they make women's specific, the chest gets in the way. Hehe.

Also, I've been wondering if your main image pic is of you (black & white). Either way, it's a great picture.

I have a Cat Eye. I've had it for about 4 years and it's never let me down. There are lots of other, way more expensive ones, but I see no need to upgrade until this one dies
