    Juuuuust finished 21 miles.

I wanted to go for 30 but I started getting this awful muscle spasm/heat sensation in my right shoulder around mile 11, and I couldn't take it anymore.

It's just as well, time to hit the beach!

Cateye Enduro 8. Like I said, it's about 4 years old. I think it was somewhere around $40. It's also not wireless, which is probably what I will upgrade to when this goes. For now, I like it. Looks like they have some nice ones on Amazon. Just checked it out

ohhh!!!! I'm totally singing that song at my desk right now! Except I don't know all the words to the verses so there is a lot of 'bicycle, bicycle, bicycle' going on.

Anyways, I PM'd my goals to SpyGuy and would love to join this group! I'm still saving for my road bike (should have enough next paycheck!!!!) but have been doing about 60 miles a week on the stationary bikes at the gym plus spin classes 2 or 3x a week.

I cannot wait to take it outside! I have an old mt. bike (from when I was 15!) that I took out on a trail last week but it just didn't fit quite right... oh well - I suppose the gym will do for now!

You guys are all inspiring! I'm all ears for any tips for beginners taking their training from indoors outdoors!

    THANKS! Bicycle bicycle bicycle!!! :drinker:

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Jeannie- Welcome to the group fellow black teamer!

Mizzymiz-Welcome to the spitfires! Stationary bikers are just as welcome as the road dogs. You must be excited about getting your road bike! I bought a hybrid to intro myself into it but I know I will be buying a road bike in the future. No worries on not having a bike yet. You don't have to own a bike to be one of us. Just ask this guy...

Well DW and I took Lynnie's advice and headed down to ****s and picked up some bike shorts. Looking forward to giving them a good test this afternoon. I was also having issues with the hands getting a bit numb around mile ten so I threw some bar ends on too. Should be pretty cool. Anyway, happy riding people!

Bar ends are like handles that you mount on the ends of you handlebar to give you a secondary hand position and are good for when you get out of the saddle for sprints ect... You only really use them on a hybrid or mountain bike as road bikes already have multiple hand position options.

For flat bars the best "numb hand" solution is these Ergo GP1 SE grips. They have a little flat area and are amazing at reducing numb hand's. $21.99 with 15% off at performancebike.com right now

OK... so bib shorts are for boys, that I can understand

Spyguy... that pic cracks me up!

The b/w profile pic is me, my buddies love me. 60cm frame, 6'4" and don't mind long pulls. Hence my nickname with the locals.... the Diesel...lol

Little ranting on bike computers... I HATE THEM! I never liked corded computers with wires everywhere, cordless suck too because they are big. Then getting sensors to work... ughh... do I really care how far I go? I've gone about 7 years w/o a computer and have not missed it, but just got a Garmin 605 and must say, it's sweeeet   It's crazy expensive.. but no wires and ton's of data... and maps!

Ok.... something useful from this bike computer ranting? 1) Don't buy planet bike, 2) Try to find a computer with a good sensor/magnet. 3) Take your time and install it well, wrap it around a brake cable or something to keep the install clean.

Just finished a 30 mile ride which should wrap up my week, assuming we go Sat-Fri.... right?

Great job all! Happy Birthday USA!

so now I am so jealous. I bought my tooling bike from a yard sale...........and DH has a nice ride for fathers day. I have to work my *kitten* off to make it move and the gears suck.

So now I want a good road bike. Something that I can stand up on and not have the gears miss and I almost fall forward.

I love love love to ride and DH will actually do this with me so........shopping I go!!

    Andrew I love that picture:laugh:

I'm glad you mentioned Planet Bike because I was looking at those too through REI. I just need something reliable to tell me how fast I'm going and distance. something basic. I'd love one with that does cadence too but I'm not too picky as I"m just beginning again.

On my bike I have a little Schwinn brand speedometer/odometer kinda deal.
    It was 10 dollars.
I've had it for a month, and haven't killed it yet.

If you knew me, you'd know how huge that was. I have a forcefield that kills all electronic devices within a 100-foot radius.

No guarantees, but assuming your derailleurs are all adjusted properly you probably just need a new chain to solve this issue. Having someone at a reputable bike store look at it could tell you for sure.

I might have missed it but just in case I didn't I am looking for weekly mile goals from the following

    Quinnybear.

You guys can PM me you weekly pledge or post it here on the thread. Either way. This week is a warm up week as it's not a full week. we really will be starting on Monday.

    :drinker:

Let's see... 33 biking miles for me for this week. Was on vacation until Monday.

I'd just recommend a good pair of gloves and check your posture and grip. You may be leaning too far fwd and putting too much pressure on your hands and gripping too tightly. A problem I used to have. I used to lock my elbows and lean hard on the bars. Once I adjusted my posture, the numbness went away.

It is a bigger deal here in my little town this year than ever before. We actually have a local resident, Tyler Farrar, riding on Team Garmin-Slipstream. He has no real chance of winning the entire tour, but he does have a realistic shot at a couple of the sprinting stages. We will just have to wait and see how it all pans out for him.

I just changed my profile picture to him leading a ride to support his father, who was hit by a motorist last year and is now a parapalegic. I am one of those tiny dots way off in the distance ;)

Nyah Nyah. Hhaha. Well if it wasn't for the A's what would all the B's be doing?
6 miles in today and it was awesome cause I finally bought a HRM, too.
My weekend of Hell is about to begin. Um. I mean work.

I hear ya on the work thin lynne.

This week of vacation has been wonderful. But as is usually the case it goes by to quickly and the closer I get to going back the bigger the feeling of dread gets as I realize I am going to have alot of catching up to do. I think I have always had a soft spot for you because we work in the same industry and we understand each others pain. lol

    :drinker:

I have a love/hate relationship with retail. I still haven't decided if I like being in management again. The jury is still out. I am not loving the drive. When they need a manager at the Mansfield Ohio store in your company let me know. LOL!

Wow!! That's a great pic!! No hometown cycling pros here. Floyd Landis grew up just a few hours away, but we all know how his Tour went....

What I am thinking is the bike is 90 bucks at walmart, I paid 40......I dont want to invest in it cuz now I want a good one:laugh:

I am so jealous of DH cuz he just tools along.......I literally ride circles around him and HE has the good bike (he has a low back inj and in a lot of pain. the bike gets him moving and I am so blessed for this)

So I am naming my daily bike ride

    "Tour De Hood"

I am in So FLA and it is really hard to ride on the roads here as the ppl in the cars dont know about any rulz of the road.

I have been in FRONT of a vehicle crossing the road when they almost hit me and then honked, which almost sent me over the handlebars, and cussed me out in spanish.

Please, if you are going to cuss me out, do it in english so I understand what a bleep bleep I am:laugh:
