As a libertarian myself, I would like to know how you justify being against gay marriage....

You could ask Ron Paul the same question....

He may not like it himself but doesn't support banning it.

That's the entire point of this thread.

its shameful that people are against it in this day and age. and for those that think it should be illegal for religious reasons should we make other sins illegal too? how about gluttony? lets make being fat illegal too since its a sin.

why do people have so much hate towards homosexuals and not towards other sins like gluttony, sloth...?

    AGREED LACES!!!

Gays should be "allowed" to marry. It is so caveman, that such a question is before us. EVERYONE should be able to get married.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, so that if a person gets ill , they can see the person they love most of all in the hospital. So that if long term mates need insurance and only one person is working, they can get insurance coverage. So that if someone dies, then they can be acknowledged as their long term mates.

This is a matter of justice and what is right to do. NOT a cry for support or the whine of "cry babies" as some close minded A-hole said above.

Because they are ignorant and are just going by what they were taught in Church and Sunday School.

Because they think that it's a mental disorder that can be "fixed" with drugs and intense therapy.

Because their parents/friends/who ever has instilled in them the belief that gay=wrong=must hate.

Lots of reasons why people have so much hate towards homosexuals and I really don't understand it.

It all boils down to every individuals religious beliefs, which obviously are unique to every person.
If you believe in souls, then logically it's possible someone could be born in a body that genetically turned out to be opposite of the sex of their soul. So that would support transgenders. Since our bodies do the whole "attraction" bit, one could also see how through some genetic result a person could be attracted to one gender or the other. Now if you are religious and your religion is against homosexuality, then one would logically believe that it is up to each individual to override those urges and live accordingly to whatever scripture they follow. If you don't believe in souls, then everything is open to genetic manipulation and so anything is possible.
If you believe in a religion, I would think that your beliefs should mirror your respective scripture.
So obviously people who adhere to certain beliefs will never agree with it because it goes against their scripture. That will never change and no debate will succeed because it all hinges on their religion. The only thing that would work is proving their religion is completely wrong, but that's a whole other can of worms.

I don't think it's "caveman" or "evil" to believe gays shouldn't marry if that is based on someone's own religious beliefs. That being said, they still have the same rights as anyone else. Marriage has dissolved over the centuries into a weak social contract with many implications on finances, rights, etc. That being said, I think logically they should have right to civil union or something along that lines so that they are able to have the same benefits of that social contract as others. Religious marriage on the other hand should be decided by each individual religion. At least that's how I see it from a logic standpoint. Religious people will still likely oppose that idea though because they feel it will be supporting that lifestyle(against their views) and influence their children accordingly. Even if it becomes legal in every state, the debate will never end because at heart it's just a debate of religion.
