In order for these standards to apply, the bar must make contact with the chest above the bottom of the sternum with a momentary pause and be pressed to full elbow extension.

    I'm in-between the weights of 148 & 165 and can't see myself bench pressing 75-80 lbs unless it's a machine LOL

    140 pounds! My sternum would crack in half! The chart doesn't specify the body composition on the weight scale (y-axis).

    I was mostly teasing. My interpretation was always 1.5x body weight was considered advanced, 2x bw = elite.

    By the way.. 395 is an impressive bench imo.

    This doesn't take into consideration the age of the participants. Obviously if a teen and a senior weighed the same, there would be a difference in strength.

    Per the site, "The performance standards are adult standards (>18 years old) for a single maximal repetition (1RM) based on competitive weightlifter and powerlifting classification systems in use from the 1950's to present."

    Well if this is for 1 rep in an about to brain hemorage state I'm in the advanced zone, haha.. Don't think I could ever get elite although it is a good goal to shoot for I guess. I've been thinking about changing up my bench stance a bit to try and get more power...
