A bit about Dr. Oz.

James Randi strikes me as a good guy. He doesn't like bullsh*t. In fact, he's pretty famous for debunking it.
Here's something hilarious that I came across after reading one of Alan Aragon's posts on bodybuilding.com.
This is in direct reference to Dr. Oz.

The Media Pigasus Award goes to Dr. Mehmet Oz,
who has done such a disservice to his TV viewers by promoting quack medical practices that he is now the first person to win a Pigasus two years in a row. Dr. Oz is a Harvard-educated cardiac physician who, through his syndicated TV show, has promoted faith healing, "energy medicine," and other quack theories that have no scientific basis. Oz has appeared on ABC News to give legitimacy to the claims of Brazilian faith healer “John of God,” who uses old carnival tricks to take money from the seriously ill. He's hosted Ayurvedic guru Yogi Cameron on his show to promote nonsense "tongue examination" as a way of diagnosing health problems. This year, he really went off the deep end. In March 2011, Dr. Oz endorsed "psychic" huckster and past Pigasus winner John Edward, who pretends to talk to dead people. Oz even suggested that bereaved families should visit psychic mediums to receive (faked) messages from their dead relatives as a form of grief counseling.

If you're knowledgeable enough to know the useful info from the crap, you don't need him to tell it to you in the first place.0 -
Umm Oprah has nothing to do with why I watch him lol0

My mom stopped taking her insulin because of this man. I hope he dies.0

Don't trust him as far as I could throw him.....0

I do agree that he seems to always have a new 'cure all' pill that he is constantly hocking. If we were to take everything he suggests, we'd be on 40 supplements!
However, I do applaud that he is willing to give a forum on alternative medicines, as there are many options out there--not just one thing works all the time for everyone.0 -
AND ITS NOT ME!!! just sayin!0

And this would be a very extreme example of why I hate his show. So many people who, unfortunately for them, believe that his show consists of accurate medical advice, and they make changes in their lives based on that horrible information.0 -

Agreed. As fun as it is to make fun of the guy for being a quack, sadly, he's also putting out a lot of garbage information that can potentially harm someone. He doesn't always preface his information with, "talk to your doctor about this" either.0 -

I can't fully blame him. She has never been 100% compliant with her diseases. I just don't understand why anyone would listen to a quack on TV that is clearly getting paid to endorse garbage, over their own doctors who have been working with them for years and know their medical history in and out.0 -
I hate going in to the office anymore, so I usually work from home a lot these days, but near me is a lot of religious people at work. I refer to it as the bible belt. When they're not praising Jesus, they're praising dr. Oz. The raspberry ketones thing came up quite a few times. Don't dare tell a dr. Oz fan that raspberry ketones don't work. Also don't discuss the gravitational lensing effect caused by a supermassive black hole in the bible belt either. Hmm or mention the fact that the spear of destiny carried by bishop Adhemar in the siege of Jerusalem during the first crusade was a fake either. Nevermind the fact that the normans, who constantly teased the franks about it being a fake, were actually inside Constantinople and met the emperor who already had one before they even left for Antioch. Experience talking here folks.0

Someone told me I was crazy because I said that cult leader came to mind when I asked what I thought of him....but I was soooo serious. This is just my personal experience but a lot of people who watch him say stuff like "Dr Oz says... "Dr Oz recommends..."Dr Oz suggests... and some follow him like he is the gospel truth over their own personal Dr. Its just not my cup of tea...0
