vicky--how do i get our puggle puppy to STOP whining/crying/yipping? she has separation anxiety and does it even when i just barely leave the room.
it's getting on my nerves BIG TIME.
i use the spray bottle but it doesn't seem to prevent her from doing it again 2secs later.
help please!0 -
Good morning!
Welcome back Tazzy! I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. :flowerforyou:
My goals today are the same:
Stay w/in my cals
drink 8 glasses h20
walk 1/2 mile on the treadmill
6 miles on the exercise bike0 -
Is it okay if I chime in with you gals? I'm a new SAHM.0
-
Hi Stacey
Totally ignore her water spray can be harsh I only use that to correct serious unwanted behavior like excessive barking but whining is as you said separation anxiety I use the theory if they have been potty been fed you know they dont need anything then ignore do not give eye contact do a little each day increasing the time and eventually it will stop sometimes leaving the TV on or radio makes enough noise that it will distract your puppy while you leave her patience they are worse than kids when they want to be try a stuffed kong to distract also they can be effective too. Also if you do use a water spray that is a negative always reward if it stops her reward the instance she is quiet let her know what you actually want. The rule is negatives MUST be followed with a positive all the time or you can make then nervy.
Misty our puppy is a very different puppy than I am used to she is refined and gentle very delicate not nutty like my spaniels it is weird she doesnt behave like a typical puppy but that is her breed plus she a bred to be show dog and I guess being raised by a mother who is show and surrounded by dogs that are for show rubs off cant wait to get her in the ring it wont be till Jan though when she is old enough.
we are going to a flyball comp at the end of the month just me and my son and Cliff our Xbreed and a tent I dont do camping so it will be interesting nice to spend some 1 on 1 with my eldest though it doesnt happen often with the little ones.
really tired after shred today I am out of shape a bit after taking so much time off with the holiday and everything else. Florida was amazing despite it being sooo hot 100's some days we dont get heat like that in the UK some great memories in disney with the kids the best has to be meeting the disney fairies we waited 90 mins but when my youngest Paige finally gave in and hugged a character (Tinkerbell) she wouldnt let go she just kept hold of her and Tinkerbell allowed her to do so and nobody waiting seemed to mind it was so sweet coz she just turned round to me after and said mummy I hugged timkerbell with this huge grin on her face it was a lovely moment that I will always remember and I am sure Paige will remember too
got Flyball training tonight looks like it will be in the rain but it doesnt matter it could rain at the tournament so good prep work tomorrow I will go out on my bike with Piage in the trailer I am going to wear my Hr monitor to see exactly how many cals that burns I think it is a lot but I will know for sure tom.
take care.0 -
Is it okay if I chime in with you gals? I'm a new SAHM.
of course! we're an informal bunch with ppl who come and go as they like.
amy and i have taken to making weekly goals but this is in no way required. i like this thread b/c we GET what it's like to fit in US while being the primary homemaker/caretaker.
plus we can share p-ing advice and joys too.
rt now i'm a new mom to a puppy and she's wonderful and horrible all at the same time!!
so pipe up whenever you want. later--0 -
tazzy, thanksfor allthe info. i haven'tdone a good job of rewarding the positive. (i do the same wrong thing with my kids).
i will work on it more today.
she's got puppy class tonight so we'll do lots of + there. my oldest is also coming with.
good thing this dog's so great on my lap---
have fun tonight at flyball!0 -
yay puppy! she did very good at class with come and pretty good with down stay. i'm switching to a gentle leader for walks as i'm tired of her puling pulling pulling on my arms.
very funny w/sit stay--as i walked around her she would just spin on her bottom to try to get the treat!
and no pee or poop in the house!!
as for today's goals--short on water and over on cals (but i didn't really CHOW like the other days). so even tho i was over, it was on healthier stuff and overall smaller portions.
off to sleep--will check in tomorrow.0 -
Well done at puppy class they are so funny when they get started we have a wonderful obedient cross Clifford I have put his name down to be a PAT (Paws as therapy) dog he has to pas an assessment which will be easy for him and then I get police checked and have to send references in but that will be fine also just takes abit of time and then we will get going to the nursing home down the road hopefully and I already have the school nursery class lined up for a visit to the little kids. I can spare a couple of hours a week and I want to give back a little. When we were in florida my youngest fell into the pool and hit her head and was out cold under the water she had ripped her floaties off and I was reading a book (big mistake never ever to be repeated) it was like a nightmare I even had to give her mouth to mouth as she wasnt breathing thank god I knew how either way she was fine kept in hosp overnight as a precaution but I was feeling guilty and very stressed on my own on holiday with 3 kids in the middle of a nightmare however on my out of hospital when we were discharged we met to PAT dogs and they do make you feel better just stroking that dog I felt myself calm down I cant describe it so thats why we want to do this. And my daughter got back in the pool with a life jacket on (that fastened at the back) with what appeared to be no memory of what happened and she now goes to swim class (not that we have a pool in our garden but it doesnt hurt for her to know how to swim)
Flyball got cancelled weather was bad and ground was too muddy it means we only have one training session now till our first tournament and we have missed loads with being on holiday aaarrrggghhhh its only fun and there are slower dogs than clifford on the team so we should be ok.
Any way back to the exercise stuff did well yesterday til the choccy biscuits called me doh today is another day went out on my bike with Hr monitor on and burned 600 cals in 1 hour I think thats pretty good so treated myself to 1 biscuit/cookie. Will walk the dogs later on its a bit warm at the moment carried the puppy to school to get her used to road noise she isnt fully vaccinated yet but I dont want her to become nervous around cars and traffic she did well but she is getting heavy now.
Have a good day everybody sorry this is so long but I am proud of what we will do with our dog as dogs are wonderful healers trust me I know I'd be a mess if it wasnt for mine and I want to share that we will visit sick children with terminal illnesses too but that will be on a rota as it can be distressing for the volunteers to go every week.0 -
Good morning! It feels good to be a part of a group where I can discuss weight loss, children, and dogs. I have problems w/ rewarding the positive w/ my dogs too. Although, it's been a looooong time since I had a puppy. I have a very geriatric 12 1/2 yr old Great Pyrenees and a 10 1/2 yr old Toy Poodle. I wish I had learned more about training a puppy when we got our poodle.
I made about half my goals yesterday:
6 glasses water and was over my cals by about 300.
I did walk 1/2 mile and do the exercise bike for 6 miles.
So far, I'm doing a bit better today.
Tazzy, I'm glad to hear your youngest is fine. I can only imagine how scared you were!
Stacey, great news w/ the puppy!0 -
vicky--bummer abt flyball--but just have fun with it when the competition comes. you can only do the best you can do!
and thank goodness your little one is okay. how absolutely terrifying for you!
i think therapy work is amazing. i wish i had that level of skill in training dogs. but who knows, maybe i will with cinnamon!
our first dog's mother was a therapy and agility dog. if i had been a smarter dog owner i think he would have done well in that line of "work" too.
and amy--good job plugging away at those goals. and i love talking dogs too!
dogs, books, baking, parenting, scheduling, meal ideas--all that!
gotta go for now :flowerforyou:0 -
hi ladies!!
so, i'm back from my whirlwind wedding weekend and the scale was up two pounds on Monday morning, but I think some of that was water weight from all of the indulgences and wine over the weekend. I was actually pretty good though despite all of the amazing food and was right back on track Monday morning. Sure enough this morning those two pounds were gone, so now I'm just hoping for a loss tomorrow morning which is my usual weigh-in day.
I feel like these 6 pounds were not easy to shed, so now I've gotta get serious and really make time and push myself to do the exercise. I feel like my stomach is flatter and my clothes look better on, but I've still got a long way to go. Losing weight definitely is not as easy as it was in my 20's or prior to children, but I just need to remember this is a lifestyle change and not just a weight loss diet. :flowerforyou:0 -

right on leslie! you will find thatas you lose this wt, more and more it WILL STAY GONE. 6# isa lot of hard earned work so keep doing what you're doing(minus the wine and wedding cake) and you will reach your goals!
we are here tohelp you do that. when you feel a craving....come type to us. when the kids' plates are tempting you, take a "chat" break.
drink a glass of waterand type.
whatever little trick works as you steadily progress to your goal.
later--off to watch horton hears a who
:happy:0 -
Hi all!
Leslie, I didn't think my first few pounds were easy to lose either. I've seen so many people say that they lose fast at the beginning and then it slows down. That has never been the case for me. Even the 3 times I tried Weight Watchers. I think for me it has been lack of motivation and (mostly) lack of will power. I am the most motivated now than I think I've ever been.
Stacey, you mentioned books as something you like to discuss:
Has anyone read anything lately that was really good? When do you find time to read for yourself? I would love to know. I love reading, but I never seem to have the time. The most exciting books I've been "reading" lately are The Magic Treehouse series, Junie B. Jones, and Dr. Seuss! And some of these I've been reading twice since my daughter (starting Kindergarten this year) is so desperately wanting to learn how to read, I have to read a word, she repeats it ... through the whole book! Didn't realize just how long Dr. Seuss books could be! :laugh:0 -
amypyr - my most intersting book is beatrix potter and peter rabbit lovely book it is the girls bedtime book at the moment we read every night to chill and wind down 2 or 3 pages does the trick.
the last real book I read was Marley and me very sad I cried but I have to say the only time I find to read is when the kids are in bed and I take a nice long bubble bath with the door locked so reading books tends not to happen to often. i knit cardigans and jumpers for my girls too been trying to finish a jacket since xmas Charley will have outgrown it before I get it finished (at least paige will fit into it if I ever finish it) I have promised them I will knit some dolls clothes clothes will have to get stuck into that but aarrrggghh only 24 hours in a day.
Day off today my legs are killing me I mean they are soooo painfull shred mon and bike yesterday 1000 cals burned together has killed me so etting my legs recover today and will go biking tomorrow and then I am going to try Jillians other DVD no more trouble zones on fri and shred on sat that is the plan should have done shred today but thought I will switch to sat as my legs really really do need to recover I did walk the dogs this morning though so not quite a couch potato and i have to clean the guinea pigs and rabbit out this afternoon it is never ending then I must groom the dogs tonight I have ordered a grooming table it should arrive today it will make my life easier the puppy doesnt stand to still when it is time for her to be brushed I forgot how much they can wriggle.
Have a good wednesday everybody.0 -
Hi everybody. I'm new here. My name is Aliah. I'm a SAHM to my beautiful daughter, Ashanti, who just turned 4 months old today.
I'm looking to loose some of my baby weight. I have a series of health problems that run in my family that I am trying to avoid: Kidney Failure, Heart Disease, Diabetes, Anemia, High Blood Pressure and Osteoporosis. Hopefully, eating right and excersize will help me avoid some of these things. I'm waayyyy off track nutrition wise, and below are my mini goals:
1. Drink atleast 2 bottles of Poland Spring water.
2. Have atleast 1 serving of fruit.
3. Have atleast 1 serving of vegetables.
4. Intake less Sodium and more Calcium.
5. Do cardio atleast 3 times a week.
6. Go for a walk with Ashanti atleast 2 times a week.0 -
Hi mamas!! I'm back this morning to report that the scale was down another pound this morning, which is my usual weigh-in day. WOOO HOOO! It feels good to know that I can have a indulgent wedding weekend and still bounce right back, but thankfully those are few and far between now. My goals for the rest of the week are to eat clean, get in lots of fresh salad greens & veggies and drink my water. I can do it! I'm shooting for a 2lbs loss for next week!!0
-
woohoo leslie!
aliah--welcome! you have a lot of goals for this week--we're here to cheer you on day by day. a new baby is a lot in and of itself and your motivations are excellent. good health for you and your daughter is health!
amy and vicky--i read a lot. first of all, my degrees are in english lit so reading is just in me. must always have something to read.
when do i read? after kids go to bed, before bed, at the table (espec at lunch), when b naps. all the time.
now--how many loads of laundry behind am i? when were my floors and toilets last cleaned? what does my office (in my closet) look like? what about the stacks of paper etc on the kitchen counter? and what exactly do my kids eat for dinner??
priorities priorities!
i also quilt and needlepoint. the needlepoint project has been ongoing for 12 YEARS. it's a large canvas and is beautiful with an English thatched cottage, garden and sunset.
i've completed 2 quilts and the third is ongoing for 4ish yrs now. actually not much left to do on that one, but need to sit down and do it. at least it's kept in a closet along with the sewing machine so it's not staring me in the face as unfinished project #azaillion.
i'll share book lists in another post. have a good morning all!0 -
Hi ladies, I'm checking in to see how everyone is doing
It's been a month since I've taken my measurements so I did it today, and I've lost a total of 4in., combined of course. But yeah, I'm pretty excited. I mean, that's better than nothing right? lol
Also I caught myself weighing in EVERY morning, and decided to stop. I haven't weighed myself since Friday and it's killing me. I know... I'm Lame. lol
Friday is almost here, Friday is almost here, Friday is ALMOST here..........................0 -
great job! 4in is awesome!!!
keep up the good work--and yes, friday is almost here. :laugh:0 -
:grumble: whine whine whine****
TO TAZZY
vicky---she even whines when i'm standing here.
i walked her this am 25min. she is doing great with the gentle leader, btw.
i played with her. she was crated a lot today but i was also home while she was in the crate. and she was restful most of the day in her crate.
her crate is in the kitchen/family room so she is not alone.
i didn't walk her this evening b/c it's 10:34PM and still 98degreesF out. just too hot.
but, i did training with her outside this evening--w/me, and with 2 little ones. plus i snuggled outside with her.
and after school i did 5 min of training too.
and snuggles in the mid afternoon.
AND--she's taken to chewing on the doorframe outside our bathroom door when she's out on the patio and dsn't want to stay out there. (dh hasn't seen this yet)
she's up at 4:30AM. i take her out and she poops and/or pees. and then she cries/BARKSBARKSBARKS in her crate till i take her out at 5AM--breakfast and then a walk.
i don't mind the 5AM wake up. dh gets up then anyway and it's cool that time of day.
but the 4:30am---ugh
and staying up till 10/11pm is also hard for me. My daytime anger is way way UP. running out of patience for her and kids.
vicky, what do i do?? do i weather it out? i'm sure there are still people in a local puggle group who will take her, espec to add her as a playmate to their other puggle.
she's adorable and a great dog 85% of time--but i just don't know what to do. hard decisions are YUKKY.
fyi she is 5.5 mon old. pics in my profile.
soooo please lmk your thoughts. it was such an impulse getting this dog and such a fight to keep her, and now here i am again stuck onwhat todo. :frown:
i'm off tobed and will put some pb in a toy for her. talk radio is on nearby.
wish me luck0 -
Hey everyone. Thanks again for the warm welcome! I really appreciate it. You guys are awesome
As for my mini goals, I am doing excellent. I just have to work on drinking more water. Yesterday, I only drank half a bottle of Poland Spring and 1 cup of juice. My fluid intake is horrible. Since I watch so much television. I'm going to give myself a little challenge. One swig of water for everytime a commercial comes on. This should help.
As for excersize, I took Ashanti for a brisk 1 hour walk. I also went to the farmer's market and got tons of fruit and vegetables. Anybody know any zucchini recipes (or any vegetable recipes)?
Take care everyone :happy:0 -

good for you! there are lots of recipes in the food and nutr section here (i think). you can also google--easy or quick zucc recipes and see what you come up with.
i'd say rice or pasta or beans and zucc and tomato sauce. throw chkn in too
later--0 -
all's quiet, huh?
sorry if my post sent you away--i shoulda em'd vicky separately.
rt now puppy is sleeping. i'm exercising and so is dh.
and we're going to put her crate in our room tonight and see how that goes.
see you all tomorrow--FRIDAY FRIDAY FRIDAY!!
g'night all--:flowerforyou:0 -
Hi Stacey just reading your post this morning it was hectic yesterday I forgot I was looking after my godson he is walking now and into everything and plus he isnt used to dogs so juggling the whole lot was a handful dont wantpuppy to have a bad experience with a toddler if you know what I mean.
When you lock her in her crate do you give her anything like a Kong with stuffing in it to distract her I use these a lot when I leave the dogs. With taz he just hated the cage so I gave in and let him sleep in the kitchen when I am out but my little dogs come upstairs at night and sleep on the foot of the bed.
Try leaving a radio on for her.
If she is whining at you really try to ignore her as if you give in she thinks that is what she has to do to get your attn.
Never let her out of her crate unless she is quiet tell her quiet dont shout (thats doggy barking) then maybe try the water spray then as soon as she is quiet even if it is only for a min tell her she is good reward with treat and let her out.
It will come right in the end but puppies can be a nightmare Taz still is for me we are working on training training training to fix his problems and the older they get the harder it is to change routine.
Stick with it stacey and soon she will be a well behaved dog the main thing is reward all the time try baking some treats that she will really want and the message will eventually get through hey if I sit here nicely I get that tasty titbit. (I use liver cake) disgusting to make but dogs go literally bonkers for it there are loads of recipes online.0 -

thank you!! she stayed in her crate in our room last night and IT WORKED! she was quiet all night and slept till we got up at 5:15AM. let's hope it works again tomorrow.
yes, we do give her kongs etc with pnut butt etc. and in the day i leave the tv on and at night it was radio.
will continue to leave tv on in day and her in crate in fam rm/kitchen. and crate in our bedroom at night. see how that goes.
i am also seeing that when gentle leader is on her, she's less barky. even tho no leash is attached to it. it's like she knows someone else is charge. goofy dog.
must sign off toget ready forthe day. :flowerforyou:0 -

Stacey if I think of anything else that might help I will let you know but patience is a virtue.sorry for the difficulties vicky. m/c and loss are very hard on a marriage. is he going to counseling or grief group? that may help him have a safe place to vent his anger and sadness at this change in circumstances.
also, a counselor can help you talk about your plans going forward. coming to a place you can both live with.
that trapped feeling is pretty common too. again, counselor to help you and you both to figure out source of that feeling and what to do abt it is key.
hope you got your workout in.0 -
Hi all! I've been extremely busy the last couple of days. I haven't had a chance to post messages, but I've been logging my meals. I haven't really had a chance to exercise much either. I just got back a few minutes ago from the playground. I took my son there for a rare "Mommy and Will morning" while my daughter is in summer camp. We're leaving in just a minute to go pick her up.
Tazzy, I hope everything works out for you and your dh. I second Stacey on a counselor.:flowerforyou:
I plan on checking in again later today. I hope everyone has a great day!0 -
whew! just got back from the park and I'm SOAKED! so so hot today. at least it was cloudy. that makes it more bearable. kids had fun on jungle gym and in the water. yay!
now to the chores. then a round of candyland.
enjoy your friday!0 -
Glad you got a good night sleep last night staceyI have always had my little dogs sleep upstairs ever since I got my first puppy I just couldnt lock her away at night wouldnt change it now either some people say it is madness but what do they know hopefully she will gain confidence knowing you are close by and then it will follow into her day as well good luck.
