Question for the guys

Hello my fellow MFP-ers
So, I was visiting my parents last Saturday and my dad, my uncle and myself were sitting at the bar in the kitchen and we were talking about diet, exercise, etc. I made the comment that Jillian Michaels' body is one that I like to have when I get to my goal. I think her body is awesome. My dad then said that he hates looking at her, and then continued to lay into women that are fit and have toned stomachs. He and my uncle went on for a few more minutes about how they hate ripped abs and muscles on a girl. I thought it was actually hilarious and I laughed about it, but over the last few days I can't stop asking, why do they think that?
So, that's my question. What would guys have against girls that are ripped? Any insights and opinions would be awesome. I'm really curious. Girls, I want to hear yours too! Also lets try to be nice to each other.

This is actually an interesting topic. It used to be that overly visible muscles on a woman was a turn off...and I'm still not a big fan of a ripped 6 pack in general on a female...but!...that doesn't mean there aren't women that have them that I don't find incredibly attractive.
This:
Is more attractive by ten miles to me than this:
And this:
Is a very nice middle ground.
What people have to realize though...is all three of those women probably have very similar abs...it's the level of bodyfat that makes ALL the difference.0 -

I definitely realize this, but the way they were talking about women that have muscles was what got me thinking. It was just so mean! I totally understand, some guys like curvy girls, I think they are beautiful too. What I don't understand was the being mean about it part.0 -
Men or women both- we all have our own individual idea of what we find "hot" or attractive. Not everyone is the same.
Personally i don't much care what "others" think - I train for what "I" like. For the look I want to achieve.
Though I also do respect the standards my husband prefers as well. Since I do want to stay within his "I find you look great like this" standards
I am curvy, and have muscles. As long as I don't lean out to much, (to low a bodyfat level) I maintain my curves, and softness, but also look fit, and tight where I should.
So that's a happy place for me and my spouse.0 -
I think sometimes guys just don't know what they want. =P My husband used to tell me that I don't need to use the heavier weight (well my heavier weight I am using aren't heavy, like 15lbs kettlebells or 2x20lbs dumbbell for squats). But now he tell me that I look hot.0

I think they're all awesome, but the last one I agree is nice. Maybe I should chalk it up to their age? I don't know. I'm sure there are 60 to 65 year old guys that like muscles on their girls too.0 -

Too many muscles can make a woman look like a man. I don't know about Jillian's body as I've never paid her any attention, but serious body builders are just not sexy because guys have a hard time telling the difference between the males and females.
Just my humble opinion.0 -

also- are your dad and uncle in really good shape?
Haha NO! Thats what made me laugh about the whole situation.0 -

No, I just wondered the reasoning behind the body bashing.0 -

I don't think it's age...I think it's exposure more than anything. I'm still not really attracted to the middle picture, but I could be assuming there was enough other commonalities. It used to be, a physique like that would be a no go for me. The bottom picture is coming closer to my ideal...when two years ago the top picture was my ideal (and still is to some extent). My own level of fitness, and its effect on what I'm exposed to and what I 'notice' more...is definitely having an effect on my tastes.

Nuh-UH! Remember allllll the posts about it? ALL men only like curvy women, remember???
On a serious note: I don't think anybody will complain if you suddenly popped up with Jillian's bodyEverybody likes different physical features, thin women, big women, blonde women, brunette women...one of my guy friends prefers athletic red heads....different strokes!

It depends on their ages. You have to remember, all this fitness stuff is relatively new to our society. Although, 30 or 40 years ago there were examples, women did not even think of going into this area let alone playing sports. So it's a generational thing more than it being a woman bashing thing.0

Because people can be mean sometimes.
I guess it's kind of sad coming out of someone you respect.0 -
They are nuts (no offense). I think woman who are toned or ripped are hot. I think we as men are not use to seeing woman like that. But I think it shows that woman can be strong and sexy!0

Everyone's tastes differ. Personally, I like a woman about 5'2-1/2" tall.
With Sexy Blue eyes.
Curves.
Busty.
Brazillian waxed.
Manicured.

Maybe they don't like a woman who looks like she can kick both of their *kitten* at the same time.
I personally prefer a little softer, curvy look, though I'm not sure I could tell you why. Even if it's the exact same muscles underneath, I like the look when the body fat isn't cut so much that you could use the abs as a washboard.0 -
My opinion...ripped women are sexy. But, who cares what anyone else thinks. You should strive for what you want.:flowerforyou:0
