My opinion is that your answer is partly rooted deep into western culture. Think Greek sculpture, Renaissance paintings of women, and similar objects. Women were represented as people of leisure; pale, rounded and soft from no labor in the sun. The "Rubenesque" figure. I am sure that there were plenty of ripped women at the time; women who farmed, who were peasants, who died young and gave birth to many children. They had to be strong, but the civilization at the time did not value them because they were peasants, not royalty or landed.

Jillian Michaels as a role model for women is a major shift in our perception and cultural definition of the desireable woman. And a good one at that. Your uncle and dad are expressing opinions with centuries of agreement behind them. But that's just it. They are looking back. You and your mom represent the new age of women in society.

What you said is so true. I found out that part of the reason I am trying to get fit is I used to never exercise and I was "pale, rounded and soft" but I was also really depressed and lethargic. After I began working out, I realized I feel the best I have ever felt in my life. I have actually stopped caring about the scale.

If Jillian had been sitting with you all in person I think their opinion might be slightly different ;)

Nice waste of a post, dude. Every single thing ever posted on these forums is a repeat of something. Get over it, or move on if you're not interested. It's not rocket surgery.

I personally hate a six-pack. On men and women. I just don't find it attractive. That doesn't mean I have a problem with anyone who has one or is striving for that. But if asked, I could go on about why I don't like it.. would that be considered "mean" ?

What you said is not mean in my opinon. It's your opinion and I respect that. What I found mean about what they said was the frequent use of the words disgusting, stupid, gross, and other terms that are usually used in insults. I'm not saying anyone has to like this body type, I just wish they would have worded it better I guess. Especially since they said this after I told them I was striving to be fit.

Yeah, then I just have to agree with the folks who've already said it's a personality flaw. Intelligent grown-ups can have disagreements that don't devolve into schoolyard bickering. :ohwell:
  • A woman with lean muscle is sexy and attractive. A woman with bulky muscles that could pop my head off, not so much.

A nice toned stomach on a girl is HAWT! Truly my weakness!

Good Luck, but even if you get in amazing shape, the odds of six pack abs are very small.

I think toned women are amazing looking, but here is your reality check, that level of visible muscle is very very difficult for most people and sustainable by only a small few.

I'm a mom, have a mommy tummy, and I know I will never have a six pack. Jillian Michaels body is one I like, but realistically I just want to be healthy and look healthy.

I can't wait to be strong and fitter looking, and I really don't care what some men think of it.

My husband is all for it, but he loves me the way I am now too. He also loved me when I was 220 lbs.

The guys at my gym are all for it too. They've been really helpful as well.

This. My fiance isn't into the whole "ripped" look on women, and prefers the way I am now (practically picture #1 that was posted by a previous member) I'd LOVE to look like #2, but am working to get to #3.

Don't sell yourself sort, hun. My mom's a mom too, and had a "mommy tummy" as well till she kicked her butt into gear and has a visible six pack, not too ripped, but you can see and feel those abs.

Yeah, they definitely could have been more mature about it.

Thanks for this. If your mom can do it so can I!

    personal preference.

also- are your dad and uncle in really good shape?

Haha NO! Thats what made me laugh about the whole situation.

yeah MOST not ALL but most of the guys ive heard complain about the bodies of superfit women, were out of shape. I think it may on occasion be hard for a fluffy guys ego to see girls that could kick their *kitten*.

This! I love it when a girl has some muscle tone (as long as her abs aren't better than mine lol)
