To sell or not to sell...

So I have been discussing this with my DH lately and I would like some opinions from random women as well. I am thinking of selling my wedding dress. It was nothing fancy, and it is about 3 sizes too big for me right now anyway, plus I am not ever planning on wearing it again.
I think that I should sell it and not keep it in storage any longer. My husband thinks that I may regret this decision. What are your thoughts?
Have you sold yours? Or kept it?

i kept mine. no idea why though.
if you can get some cash out of it, why not?0 -
I am keeping mine and plan to have a baptism gown made out of it for our first child.0

I'm keeping mine because I'm nostalgic and love sparkly things. Maybe ten years from now I'll decide I'm over it and sell.
If you don't feel any attachment to it, sell it! Spend the money on something you'll love and use.0 -
No wedding dress for me because I didn't have a wedding. Stood in front of a judge. And I got rid of those clothes (along with the husband) a long time ago.
If you have children, you might want to pass it down to them. But otherwise, I don't see any reason to keep it. If you were going to do a recommittment ceremony, it would have to be altered so...0 -

Aw... that will be a beautiful keepsake!0 -
I have two of them that are just taking up room. Btw , I'm no longer married.0

I'm keeping mine. Even if my kids don't want to wear it, they may want to use a piece of it for their ceremony's or something...that's what I did with my mother's wedding dress- the lace trim lined our Chuppah!0

This is what you should do.0 -
I still have mine and my bouquet is dried and in a shadow box.0

I gave mine to a girl who got frauded on Ebay. She sent someone $2000 for a dress that never showed. She was in a huge panic and was the sweetest person! I gave it to her for free after asking of proof of fraud since she seemed to have her heart set on it, but didn't have the money after being taken by idiots.
She sent me the most beautiful pictures of her in the dress on her wedding day with her family. She also donated the dress to charity after she wore it so kind of sweet knowing the dress lived and maybe even continues to live on!0 -
Mine's still hanging up in the closet as well. I have no clue what to do with it either, I have two sons and I doubt their future wives would want to wear it. I say if its a style that you could get money out of, sell it and enjoy the extra $$. I have several formal dresses I've thought of consigning, this post may have inspired me to finally do it!0

The whole industry related to weddings is such a scam. How come a groom can rent a tux for $70 and a bride pays $1,400 for a dress that they'll only wear once?
Wedding Event Planner? Give me a break. Preying on a faction of the populace that has grown up being inundated with the fairy tale wedding fantasy. If most couples would spend that kind of time and money on counselling and marriage preparation, the divorce rate wouldn't be over 50%.
2 years leading up to the wedding is spent on planning an extravagant event. Spending thousands and creating stress. The day after the marriage most young couples are faced with all the debt incurred, which most struggle to cope with.
My wife and I planned our own wedding. She spent a modest amount on a beautiful dress. About $300. I rented a tux. We had the wedding at my sisters home. I prepared all the food. Only outside expenses were for a DJ and the wedding cake. We spent the lion's share of the wedding expenses on the honeymoon. Everyone there had a blast. We celebrate our 20th Anniversay in August.0 -
I saved mine for my daughters to wear when they get married. Kind of an old traditional thing. Neither one is married yet but they don't have an interest in wearing my dress. In addition, it could save them alot of money as recent friends purchased dresses for 2000 and 1200 dollars!0

My dress was the most expensive thing. It was $700. The church/facilities were free. No DJ or dancing, against the churches rules, and we can't dance. Our entire wedding cost $2300.0

I sold mine and I've never regretted it. I was never going to wear it again, and it was taking up space. But then, it wasn't an expensive designer gown or anything; maybe if it was I'd want to hold on to it longer. I think it depends on how sentimental you are. I'm not sentimental at all, so I get rid of things all the time without a backwards glance. If you'd rather have the cash and the extra storage space than the dress, go ahead and sell it. If you're not sure, wait a couple more years and see if you've changed your mind at all.0

Do daughters really ever wear their mother's wedding dresses these days??? I never would have worn my mother's, and I'm quite sure my daughters wouldn't like mine. No one on this thread so far wore their mother's dresses. I just think it's an unrealistic expectation. I mean, think about it. My mother's dress was in a '70s style and I got married in 2001. lol
I'm going to beat all of you so far. My wedding cost a total of $400, and the rest of the money went toward the honeymoon. I've NEVER regretted not having an expensive wedding, EVER.0 -

That is adorable. I feel like I should donate mine now!0 -

I didn't wear my mother's dress, but I did use it. I used the lace on our Chuppah and I will use the rest of the lace on a baby blanket. I'm saving my dress in case my daughter (that hopefully I will have...) wants to wear it or use part of it.0 -
Ah; I'm sentimental. I'd keep it.
Seamstresses can do amazing things; someday you may have a daughter or daughter-in-law that would love to wear it or use some of the fabric to incorporate into her own gown.0 -
I sold my wedding dress from my first marraige after we divorced. I still have my wedding dress from my second marriage and am still married. I say keep it.0

I got married in Vegas in a sweater & pair of jeans. haha.
It will take a lot for me to get married again, but I plan to have a simple cheap wedding, & WILL wear a dress.
I've always thought it would be neat to do a 'trash the dress' photo shoot with the wedding dress afterwards.0 -
I kept mine and wear it every year on our wedding anniversary
It gives me an incentive to keep me at the same size, 2.5 kids later lol....0 -

I didn't wear my mums, but she was able to let about 100 women use her dress who otherwise didn't have one in Africa...0 -
I'm not a sentimental person. I sold mine years ago.0

I totally agree this is so sweet.0 -
I willingly gave mine to the Goodwill about a year after I got married.
I hope the person who bought it and wore it had better luck than I did.0 -
I have been married for 4 years and I still have mine. I don't think I am ready to see it yet. But if you are not attached to it I sy sell it. You may be giving a lovely bride to be on a budget an great gift by selling her what I am sure is a beautiful dress at a bargin price.0

Never liked mine. My Dad had already paid to have it cleaned and preserved before I got back from my honeymoon. It's still under my Dad's bed. Wish I had gotten rid of it then!
I have two daughter's (used family christening and communion gown's). Asked them if they wanted it, and I never get a response. May just donate it after my Dad passes on(he's almost 90 God Love him!) don't want to hurt his feelings.
If you don't just love it, pass it on to someone who will!0 -
I'd make it into a quilt.
Also, I think 90% of the time it's probably selfish to expect your daughter to wear your dress, or even ask her to, because then it puts her in the awkward position of having to say yes or telling you no and hurting your feelings.0
