Any indie music fans?
Music is my life.... finding new music and sharing its greatness with friends is my hobby. Anyone else really enjoy indie rock? Most bands that I listen to are bands that most people have never heard of.... anyone wanna talk musica? Any great new emerging bands that should be on my radar?

Me! Me! Me! hahaha
I've recently found Chairlift, Blitzen Trapper, Thao with the Get Down Stay Down and I'm from Barcelona....I dig them. Not sure if they are actually all Indie though....0 -
Like who? I used to be a real indie kid.. back when I lived in Phoenix (a stop on everyone's tour) and shows were $7. My faves back then were Rainer Maria, Ida, Modest Mouse, Bright Eyes, etc. I will still listen to most of it, but sometimes Conor Oberst's voice makes me want to stab myself in the eardrums. His later stuff is a lot better.
I've gotten into a lot more "mainstream" stuff in the last few years. I always say my favourite genre is Sad Guys With Guitars, though.0 -
I've really been into Grouplove for the past year or so (they're just starting to break now though).... I'm in love with Electric Guest, Emily and the Woods, The Coathangers..... anything Jenny Lewis (duh)..... Animal Kingdom..... Cloud Nothings... MONA.... The Shins.... Bombay Bicycle Club.... god, I could go on and on.....0
-
Hey I'm from Phoenix too~ Love some modest mouse, the shins, arcade fire, franz ferdinand, the apples in stereo, vampire weekend, MGMT, feist, the stills...
My favorite all time indie rock band are The Strokes. I saw them when they stopped by in Mesa and I was in High School. First concert I ever paid to go see. I was already a fan by then though. And through them I listened to more Indie Artists and then ♥0 -

Some favourite bands include Animal Collective, Neutral Milk Hotel, Beirut, Broken Social Scene, TV On The Radio, Bon Iver, Dirty Projectors, The Walkmen and Interpol to name a few.0 -
Heh! I've never been able to figure out why people like MGMT. Jenny Lewis is good stuff, though... I never paid much attention until I saw Rilo Kiley (by accident) several years ago and realized how much I liked them. And who doesn't like The Shins? I still lament the disbanding of Juno... I saw them open for DCFC like 11 years ago and could not understand how Death Cab was the headlining band. I still don't entirely get their popularity. Eleven years ago, they sucked.
I'll have to check out some of the others you listed... maybe mix up the sad guys with guitars a bit.0 -

I love TV On The Radio, NMH, LOVE LOVE LOVE Beirut.... Interpol is another good one..... I'll have to look into the others.... I've heard some on Bon Iver, but not enough to really make up my mind....0 -
I will say that that MGMT video for Kids scared the living daylights out of me! I first saw it when my son was a baby baby (still a baby though, haha) because I'm not much into videos, but holy bejesus! It was nuts!!!0

Aw no I love Conor Obersts voice. I prefer their earlier stuff, Cassadaga was terrible IMO haha.0 -

TV On the Radio are even better live probably the best band I have seen live, either them or Godspeed You! Black Emperor, definitely recommend checking them out if they are still touring.0 -

Portugal. The Man is amazing! Also, I'm in love with Fleet Foxes. I could go on, but those two are my favorites at the moment.0

I love me some indie jams :smokin:
But lately I haven't been up on discovering new bands! Been just listening to mainstream on the radio....:/
There are some good bands gettin popular right now (The Black Keys, Young the Giant, Neon Trees, Mumford & Sons, Deathcab) so I'm not bashing the radio, but I hear the same freakin' songs every day!!
Will keep tabs on this thread for new bands to look into...
P.s. anyone heard of Built to Spill? one of my all-time favorites!0 -
LOVE LOVE LOVE:
Lily Allen
Mumford & Sons
Foster the People
Gotye

I'm so excited because the weather is getting warmer and we can pull out our summer favorites (Beirut, Beach House, XX, Florence + Machine, New Pornographers)!
Lately I've been listening to a lot of Beats Antique. They are a little more heavy bass-belly-dancing-electronica than traditional indie- but it's really good workout music! I would start with the album 'Collide' if you are interested. For a while they were giving away a whole album for free on their website...0 -
Yes! I'm in the UK though so some won't have crossed over. I will watch this thread with interest for new bands I should be listening to online :-)
I've seen Death Cab 3 times and LOVE The Arcade Fire and Pulp0 -
Disptach, Sufjan Stevens, Avett Brothers. All three will dominate your ipod.0

Hi. I don't know if this lady falls into "Indie" but she was highly recommended by a music friend of mine who listens to many different styles out there. I do too I guess, and that's why I'll pass on Regina Spektor to you. If you're already relaxed and want to hear some music to chill out more with give her a try. She's a pianist, singer from New York's East Village. I listened to her stuff last night and it was perfect timing. (long day) Enjoy!0

Built to Spill has some pretty strong lyrics! Also, YTG is horrible live.... well, they toured with Grouplove and they have totally different energies..... grouplove played and got the crowd all amped and then here comes YTG (who plays pretty relaxed music).... most people left halfway through their set. They didn't even play any of their hits! It was sad.0 -

TV On The Radio's lead singer passed after a lengthy battle with cancer quite a few months back... pretty sad because now you're really starting to hear them.... very sad.
